Em busca das respostas, o autor lançou mão de uma pesquisa bibliográfica e de um estudo de caso envolvendo análise de documentos, observação de aulas e realização de entrevistas e seminários com professoras de uma escola pública, tomando como categoria analítica básica o par dialético "realidade-possibilidade". A possibilidade real, concreta e de essência de o esporte ser partícipe de um projeto emancipatório está, sobretudo, na sua ampla oferta, na sua prática como objeto de reflexão e na transformação de sua dinâmica, essencialmente competitiva e aparentemente lúdica, para uma outra, qualitativamente distinta, essencialmente lúdica e aparentemente competitiva.
