Download or read book Where Reincarnation and Biology Intersect written by Ian Stevenson and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1997-05-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children who claim to remember a previous life have been found in many parts of the world, particularly in the Buddhist and Hindu countries of South Asia, among the Shiite peoples of Lebanon and Turkey, the tribes of West Africa, and the American northwest. Stevenson has collected over 2,600 reported cases of past-life memories of which 65 detailed reports have been published. Specific information from the children's memories has been collected and matched with the data of their claimed former identity, family, residence, and manner of death. Birthmarks or other physiological manifestations have been found to relate to experiences of the remembered past life, particularly violent death. Writing as a specialist in psychiatry and as a world-renowned scientific investigator of reported paranormal events, Stevenson asks us to suspend our Western tendencies to disbelieve in reincarnation and consider the reality of the burgeoning record of cases now available. This book summarizes Stevenson's findings which are presented in full in the multi-volume work entitled Reincarnation and Biology: A Contribution to the Etiology of Birthmarks and Birth Defects, also published by Praeger.

Book Synopsis European Cases of the Reincarnation Type by : Ian Stevenson, M.D.
Download or read book European Cases of the Reincarnation Type written by Ian Stevenson, M.D. and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-09-02 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many cultures accept that a person may die and then come back to life in another form, but Westerners have traditionally rejected the idea. Recently, however, surveys conducted in Europe indicate a substantial increase in the number of Europeans who believe in reincarnation, and numerous claims of reincarnation have been reported. This book examines particular cases in Europe that are suggestive of reincarnation. The first section provides a brief history of the belief in reincarnation among Europeans. The second section considers eight cases from the first third of the twentieth century that were not independently investigated, but were reported and sometimes published by the persons concerned. The third section covers 32 cases from the second half of the twentieth century that were investigated by the author. Many of these cases involved either children who exhibited unusual behavior attributed to a previous life, or adults who experienced recurrent or vivid dreams attributed to a previous life. In the fourth section, the author compares European cases suggestive of reincarnation with those of other countries and cultures.

Download or read book Old Souls written by Tom Shroder and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-05-17 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A riveting firsthand account of one man’s mission to investigate and document some of the most astonishing phenomena of our time—children who speak of past life memory and reincarnation. All across the globe, small children spontaneously speak of previous lives, beg to be taken “home,” pine for mothers and husbands and mistresses from another life, and know things that there seems to be no normal way for them to know. From the moment these children can talk, they speak of people and events from the past—not vague stories of centuries ago, but details of specific, identifiable individuals who may have died just months, weeks, or even hours before the birth of the child in question. For thirty-seven years, Dr. Ian Stevenson has traveled the world from Lebanon to suburban Virginia investigating and documenting more than two thousand of these past life memory cases. Now, his essentially unknown work is being brought to the mainstream by Tom Shroder, the first journalist to have the privilege of accompanying Dr. Stevenson in his fieldwork. Shroder follows Stevenson into the lives of children and families touched by this phenomenon, changing from skeptic to believer as he comes face-to-face with concrete evidence he cannot discount in this spellbinding and true story.
Book Synopsis Children Who Remember Previous Lives by : Ian Stevenson, M.D.
Download or read book Children Who Remember Previous Lives written by Ian Stevenson, M.D. and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-05-20 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of reincarnation has been around for thousands of years, and is a part of many religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. In addition to these religious beliefs, many people believe it offers an explanation for the mysteries of life. There are children that claim to remember previous lives as adults or even animals. These claimed memories might affect the development of the child and be incorporated into the child's personality. This book presents an in-depth look at Dr. Stevenson's forty years studying children who claim to remember previous lives. It is an informative, professional read that dispels common misconceptions about reincarnation and offers an open-minded perspective. It provides an overview of the history of the belief in and evidence for reincarnation, with new material relating to birthmarks and birth defects, independent replication studies, and recent developments in genetic study. It also covers research on children, the methods used, the cases studied, and the analyses of the data. The idea of reincarnation is explored as an explanation for some unsolved problems in psychology and medicine. • INTRODUCTION TO REINCARNATION--Provides an introduction to the study of reincarnation, including a discussion of the belief in reincarnation. • VARIATIONS IN DIFFERENT CULTURES--Looks at how reincarnation is viewed in different cultures around the world and how it has changed over time. • EXPLANATORY VALUE OF THE IDEA OF REINCARNATION--The idea of reincarnation has been around for thousands of years, and many people believe it offers an explanation for the mysteries of life. • TYPES OF EVIDENCE FOR REINCARNATION--There are many types of evidence for reincarnation, including anecdotal evidence, case studies, and research studies. • TYPICAL CASES OF CHILDREN--Looks at typical cases of children who remember previous lives, with a focus on their characteristics. • METHODS OF RESEARCH--Discusses the methods of research and the various ways in which previous-life memories can be investigated. • ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF CASES--Analyzes a number of cases from the author's 40-year career.

Book Synopsis Advances in Religion, Cognitive Science, and Experimental Philosophy by : Helen De Cruz
Download or read book Advances in Religion, Cognitive Science, and Experimental Philosophy written by Helen De Cruz and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-28 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental philosophy has blossomed into a variety of philosophical fields including ethics, epistemology, metaphysics and philosophy of language. But there has been very little experimental philosophical research in the domain of philosophy of religion. Advances in Religion, Cognitive Science, and Experimental Philosophy demonstrates how cognitive science of religion has the methodological and conceptual resources to become a form of experimental philosophy of religion. Addressing a wide variety of empirical claims that are of interest to philosophers and psychologists of religion, a team of psychologists and philosophers apply data from the psychology of religion to important problems in the philosophy of religion including the psychology of religious diversity; the psychology of substance dualism; the problem of evil and the relation between religious belief and empathy; and the cognitive science explaining the formation of intuitions that unwittingly guide philosophers of religion when formulating arguments. Bringing together authors and researchers who have made important contributions to interdisciplinary research on religion in the last decade, Advances in Religion, Cognitive Science, and Experimental Philosophy provides new ways of approaching core philosophical and psychological problems.
Book Synopsis Beyond Mechanism by : Brian G. Henning
Download or read book Beyond Mechanism written by Brian G. Henning and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been said that new discoveries and developments in the human, social, and natural sciences hang “in the air” (Bowler, 1983; 2008) prior to their consummation. While neo-Darwinist biology has been powerfully served by its mechanistic metaphysic and a reductionist methodology in which living organisms are considered machines, many of the chapters in this volume place this paradigm into question. Pairing scientists and philosophers together, this volume explores what might be termed “the New Frontiers” of biology, namely contemporary areas of research that appear to call an updating, a supplementation, or a relaxation of some of the main tenets of the Modern Synthesis. Such areas of investigation include: Emergence Theory, Systems Biology, Biosemiotics, Homeostasis, Symbiogenesis, Niche Construction, the Theory of Organic Selection (also known as “the Baldwin Effect”), Self-Organization and Teleodynamics, as well as Epigenetics. Most of the chapters in this book offer critical reflections on the neo-Darwinist outlook and work to promote a novel synthesis that is open to a greater degree of inclusivity as well as to a more holistic orientation in the biological sciences.

Book Synopsis Born Again: Reincarnation Cases Involving Evidence of Past Lives, with Xenoglossy Cases Researched by Ian Stevenson, MD by : Walter Semkiw MD
Download or read book Born Again: Reincarnation Cases Involving Evidence of Past Lives, with Xenoglossy Cases Researched by Ian Stevenson, MD written by Walter Semkiw MD and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-10-22 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born Again includes the most important cases providing evidence of reincarnation, including cases researched by Ian Stevenson MD at the University of Virginia. Dr. Semkiw methodically presents crucial reincarnation cases in easy-to-read synopses, such as the James Huston James Leininger case, which demonstrate principles of reincarnation. These principles include the observations that facial features, personality traits, talents and passions can remain consistent from lifetime to lifetime. Dr. Semkiw also reviews the very significant Ian Stevenson twin study case, which shows that souls can plan lifetimes, so that loved ones can be reunited within families through reincarnation. Xenoglossy cases researched by Ian Stevenson, MD, where individuals can speak and understand a foreign language that was not learned by normal means, are also presented. These cases show that past life personalities are retained intact within the soul. Born Again is a reincarnation primer that sets the stage for many additional cases presented on the Reincarnation Research website, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reincarnation research.

Book Synopsis The Science of Truth by : C.W. Adams
Download or read book The Science of Truth written by C.W. Adams and published by Science of Truth Publishing. This book was released on with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern scientific theory has proposed to us an accidental existence and evolution without an ultimate purpose or reason. This has forced upon each of us the need to balance our personal feelings of faith and spirituality with the basic assumptions of modern science. The Science of Truth draws upon the relevant research together with timeless revelations to demonstrate that life truly does have meaning and purpose. In this exploration, Dr. Adams provides a pragmatic review of the prominent scientific theories regarding evolution, creation, identity, genetics, quantum physics, and even the scientific method itself. Practical and verifiable conclusions are accomplished, substantiating some of our deepest emotions. The Science of Truth successfully bridges the gap between true faith and real science, providing resolution to some of the greatest debates of our generation.
