Book excerpt: For centuries the debates over if there is a God or not? Have tempted curious minds to meditate on the whys and hows of our mysterious universe. Splitting into two major faculties or aptitudes are the atheists, the skeptics, and the theists, the believers. The irony, the paradox, is the very scientific notions that were once rendered leveraged to the nonbelievers. It has turned into an autoimmune disease attacking the body, the white cells, striking the tissues that used to support it. Because no systematic laws applicable to the physical world are compatible with the unseen world. The quantum domain. I call the metaphysically oriented submicroscopic realm the sphere of God since the bizarre behaviors are puzzling the beautiful minds of our time. The scholarly-minded scientists and prominent physicists unanimously confess that no Newtonian laws or any traditional physic have the answer to this majestic, exalted environment. Reign of essence/ the encyclopedia of critical thinking is the closest that the reader can come in quenching one's thirst in search of the truth; since no better source can philosophically, scientifically, ethically, morally, spiritually, and historically attribute to facts referencing the visible and the ethereal (ghostly) atmosphere so evidential to a magnificent programmer. Leaving no doubt, we live in a computer-simulated matrix since the extremely orderly and regulated universe. Operates like unique computer bits, tuning our world and beyond. Acknowledging, gravitating to essential premises, and apart from fiction and determinant notions that are not thoroughly, methodologically investigated. Contiguous, bordering, the nearest that one can come to God as the transparent image of the almighty; perhaps looking at the human brain hinting at alien-like characters should remind us of conforming simulated clone dominion. With a thorough look into the invisible domain, the quantum world. I called it the metaphysical realm. The culprits and the ignorance should realize it is not what it is. Becoming concerned makes much sense. It is not what it looks like. There is a higher source; call it what you wish; I call the preeminent God.

Book excerpt: ""The reign of quantity" gives a concise but comprehensive view of the present state of affairs in the world, as it appears from the point of view of the 'ancient wisdom', formerly common both to the East and to the West, but now almost entirely lost sight of. The author indicates with his fabled clarity and directness the precise nature of the modern deviation, and devotes special attention to the development of modern philosophy and science, and to the part played by them, with their accompanying notions of progress and evolution, in the formation of the industrial and democratic society which we now regard as 'normal'. Guénon sees history as a descent from Form (or Quality) toward Matter (or Quantity); but after the Reign of Quantity-modern materialism and the 'rise of the masses'-Guénon predicts a reign of 'inverted quality' just before the end of the age: the triumph of the 'counter-initiation', the kingdom of Antichrist. This text is considered the magnum opus among Guénon's texts of civilizational criticism, as is Symbols of Sacred Science among his studies on symbols and cosmology, and Man and His Becoming according to the Vedanta among his more purely metaphysical works." --Descripción del editor.

It argues that O'Donovan's theological account of political authority is not tenable on the basis of exegetical and methodological problems. The book goes on to demonstrate a way to refine O'Donovan's theology of political authority by incorporating insights from his earlier work in moral theology. This can provide a cogent basis for thinking that the Christ-event redeems the natural political authority embedded in the created order and inaugurates its new historical bene esse in the form of Christian liberalism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Universally recognized as bringing about a revolutionary transformation of the notions of space, time, and motion in physics, Einstein's theory of gravitation, known as "general relativity," was also a defining event for 20th century philosophy of science. During the decisive first ten years of the theory's existence, two main tendencies dominated its philosophical reception. This book is an extended argument that the path actually taken, which became logical empiricist philosophy of science, greatly contributed to the current impasse over realism, whereas new possibilities are opened in revisiting and reviving the spirit of the more sophisticated tendency, a cluster of viewpoints broadly termed transcendental idealism, and furthering its articulation. It also emerges that Einstein, while paying lip service to the emerging philosophy of logical empiricism, ended up siding de facto with the latter tendency. Ryckman's work speaks to several groups, among them philosophers of science and historians of relativity. Equations are displayed as necessary, but Ryckman gives the non-mathematical reader enough background to understand their occurrence in the context of his wider philosophical project.

Book excerpt: The new electronic age has seen a radical transition from book to screen, a development which has obscured the fact that it is not what we see which matters but how we see what we see. We live in a time when the visible needs to be retheorised.Panorama presents a broad analysis of philosophies of the visible in art and culture, particularly in painting, film, photography, and literature. The work of key philosophers--Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Levinas, Barthes, Blanchot, Foucault, Bataille, Derrida, Lyotard and Deleuze--is examined in the context of visibility, expressivity, the representational and the postmodern. Contributors: Zsuzsa Baross, Robert Burch, Alessandro Carrera, Dana Hollander, Lynne Huffer, Volker Kaiser, Reginald Lilly, Robert S. Leventhal, Janet Lungstrum, Ladelle McWhorter, Ludwig Nagl, Anne Tomiche, James R. Watson, Lisa Zucker

Book excerpt: Over the course of several decades, missiologist George Hunsberger has written numerous essays on crucial themes for the church’s recovery of its missional identity and practice. The Story That Chooses Us brings these essays together for the first time. The book as a whole presents a composite sense of the missional identity and faithful witness to which the church is called in contemporary Western society. Hunsberger engages with well-known missiologist Lesslie Newbigin throughout his work as he carefully discerns biblical and theological roots for a contemporary vision of missional theology. The recurring themes in Hunsberger’s essays provide both theological mooring and practical guidance for churches following Christ on the missional path.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents two important lecture cycles delivered after WWII, exploring the poetry of Hölderlin and the nature of thought itself. Heidegger delivered his lecture series, Insight into That Which Is, at Bremen in 1949. It was his first speaking engagement after World War II, when he was officially banned from teaching. Here, Heidegger openly resumes thinking that deeply engaged him with Hölderlin’s poetry and themes developed in his earlier works. In the Freiburg lectures, delivered in 1957, Heidegger ponders thought itself and freely engages with the German idealists and Greek thinkers who had provoked him in the past. Andrew J. Mitchell’s translation allows English-speaking readers to explore important connections with Heidegger’s earlier works on language, logic, and reality.
