This book was released on 2014-08-02 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact that the lack of investment in water infrastructure will have on the performance of aging underground infrastructure over time is well documented and the needed funding estimates range as high as $325 billion over the next 20 years. With the current annual replacement rate averaging 0.5%, pipes would be expected to last for 200 years, but most pipes are designed for 50 or 100 year life cycles. While this replacement rate may be sufficient in the immediate term because pipes are still relatively young, as systems grow older, the necessary replacement rates will inevitably increase. In addition to the necessary funding, congestion above and below ground is making the replacement of water mains more difficult for utility owners as is the lack of public tolerance for the disruption caused by construction work. There is an increasing availability of technologies for rehabilitation of existing pipes, which provides solutions that minimize or alleviate these problems, while providing realistic and potentially cost-effective alternatives to traditional open cut replacement.

This book was released on 2007-07-31 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to develop, analyze, and test various concepts for reconnecting service laterals after pipeline rehabilitation with little or no excavation. By discussing and demonstrating various concepts, it was hoped that the technical challenges would be better understood, and practical new tools and techniques would ultimately emerge to significantly reduce the cost of rehabilitating water mains. The study focused on pipelines and conditions common to water distribution systems. The use of keyhole tools for reconnecting services following pipebursting work was field tested on a water main in Los Angeles. A DVD containing video of these tests is included. These techniques can be applied immediately. The DVD also includes a video file showing a reconnection technique using a pipeline robot. Results from bench testing several other key concepts are provided.
Book Synopsis Lead Pipe Rehabilitation and Replacement Techniques by : Gregory J. Kirmeyer
Download or read book Lead Pipe Rehabilitation and Replacement Techniques written by Gregory J. Kirmeyer and published by American Water Works Association. This book was released on 2000 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The information contained in this manual can be used by utilities that need to plan and execute a lead service line replacement program to meet the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act's Lead and Copper Rule. European utilities will be able to use this manual as a guide to meet the water quality directives of the European Union regarding lead in drinking water. This manual can be used by utilities to screen and evaluate lead pipe rehabilitation and replacement technologies that best fit their needs. Selection criteria guidelines can be used by utilities to develop tailored programs for their site-specific applications. Findings from this project are based on state-of-the-art technologies at the time of the study. Guidelines can be used to help select and prioritize technologies; however, these guidelines are not intended to be used to identify the only suitable technology alternative for a site-specific application. Some techniques may have limited availability, particularly those technologies currently under development.
