Book Synopsis Revitalizing Indian Agriculture and Boosting Farmer Incomes by : Ashok Gulati
Download or read book Revitalizing Indian Agriculture and Boosting Farmer Incomes written by Ashok Gulati and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-05 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book provides an evidence-based roadmap for revitalising Indian agriculture while ensuring that the growth process is efficient, inclusive, and sustainable, and results in sustained growth of farmers’ incomes. The book, instead of looking for global best practices and evaluating them to assess the possibility of replicating these domestically, looks inward at the best practices and experiences within Indian states, to answer questions such as -- how the agricultural growth process can be speeded up and made more inclusive, and financially viable; are there any best practices that can be studied and replicated to bring about faster growth in agriculture; does the prior hypothesis that rapid agricultural growth can alleviate poverty faster, reduce malnutrition, and augment farmers’ incomes stand? To answer these questions, the book follows four broad threads -- i) Linkage between agricultural performance, poverty and malnutrition; ii) Analysing the historical growth performance of agricultural sector in selected Indian states; iii) Will higher agricultural GDP necessarily result in higher incomes for farmers; iv) Analysing the current agricultural policy environment to evaluate its efficiency and efficacy, and consolidate all analysis to create a roadmap. These are discussed in 12 chapters, which provide a building block for the concluding chapter that presents a roadmap for revitalising Indian agriculture while ensuring growth in farmers’ incomes.

This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture productivity, growth and regional change in post-colonial India from a spatial perspective are yet to be rigorously examined. In particular, the impacts of economic liberalisation, globalisation and deregulation are not being empirically investigated at a small-area level using advanced statistical and spatial techniques. Understanding the process of regional formation and the rapid transitioning of agricultural landscapes in the Post-Liberalisation phase is pivotal to developing and devising regional economic development strategies. This book employs advanced methods to empirically examine the key characteristics and patterns of regional change in agricultural growth and productivity. It offers insights on changes in agricultural production and practices since the colonial period through to the Post-Liberalisation phase in India. It also incorporates the key public policy debates on the progress of India’s agricultural development with the aim of formulating spatially integrated strategies to reduce rapid rise in the regional convergence and to promote equitable distribution of strategic government investment.

Book excerpt: The increasing interest of academicians in studies regarding regional disparities in development is the outcome of the First and Second World War when many colonies attained political independence and consequently became conscious of the distressing disparity between them and their erstwhile colonial masters. The world is divided into the developed North and developing South, with many shades of disparities at varying regional levels. This dualism could not escape the attention of academicians, decision-makers and administrators. In developing countries, the problem of regional disparity is explosive. So all countries have been attempting to find ways and means to analyze and reduce the regional disparities in development. For this, they could refashion the structure and composition of growth so that it would meet the demands of social justice.

Book Synopsis Resources and Planning for Economic Development by : Archana Bhargava
Download or read book Resources and Planning for Economic Development written by Archana Bhargava and published by Northern Book Centre. This book was released on 1991 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inter-relationship between man, resources and development is the point of discussion and elaboration in the present volume. In the wake of integrated rural regional development, it is imperative to envisage development as socio-economic change for betterment of masses involving local resources and incorporate interest. Such a structural change in orientation of planning requires resource evaluation and allocation on microscale in detail. Utilizing the contemporary techniques, evaluation of potentials, present utilization and possibilities of optimum utilization of resources of a relatively less developed region, i.e., Sagar Division of Madhya Pradesh is attempted. This division provides an example of how only basic attributes of resources are taken care of ignoring the combinational ones in the existing system of spatial organisation developed under top-down planning. The widening disparity can be minimized by planning on micro-level. A comparatively new approach of identification of planning units, incorporating characteristics of both formal and functional regions, has been attempted. As such the present volume can serve as model for resource-based development planning of depressed regions.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Research on Managing the Urban-Rural Divide Through an Inclusive Framework by : Popoola, Ayobami Abayomi
Download or read book Handbook of Research on Managing the Urban-Rural Divide Through an Inclusive Framework written by Popoola, Ayobami Abayomi and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-02-10 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the growing disparities between rural and urban areas in developing countries have been a cause of major concern. The rural-urban gap remains the single most well-documented development and welfare disparity in the developing world. This gap can be seen in the low economic activities, higher poverty levels, and lower quality infrastructure and services in rural areas as opposed to urban areas. While the magnitude of this rural-urban divide is well-documented, very little has been documented about its impact on inclusive and sustainable urban development. The Handbook of Research on Managing the Urban-Rural Divide Through an Inclusive Framework aims to capture the spatial and socio-economic divide between rural and urban areas and provides a road map to revamping the discussion that surrounds the urban-rural sphere. Covering key topics such as development, food security, and rural regions, this premier reference source is ideal for policymakers, government officials, industry professionals, researchers, academicians, practitioners, scholars, instructors, and students.
