Book Synopsis Writing the North of the North / L’Écriture du Nord du Nord / Den Norden des Nordens (be-)schreiben by : Annie Bourguignon
Download or read book Writing the North of the North / L’Écriture du Nord du Nord / Den Norden des Nordens (be-)schreiben written by Annie Bourguignon and published by Frank & Timme GmbH. This book was released on 2019-11-29 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The expression “North of the North” refers both to an objective, geographical reality – the territories situated at the highest latitudes on our planet – and to a subjective, mental construction which came into being many centuries ago and has been developed, modified and differentiated ever since. The chapters in the present volume examine various aspects of that concept, analysing texts and works of art from a range of regions and periods.

Book Synopsis Defining the Spatial Scale in Modern Regional Analysis by : Esteban Fernández Vázquez
Download or read book Defining the Spatial Scale in Modern Regional Analysis written by Esteban Fernández Vázquez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores different approaches to defining the concept of region depending on the specific question that needs to be answered. While the typical administrative spatial data division fits certain research questions well, in many cases, defining regions in a different way is fundamental in order to obtain significant empirical evidence. The book is divided into three parts: The first part is dedicated to a methodological discussion of the concept of region and the different potential approaches from different perspectives. The problem of having sufficient information to define different regional units is always present. This justifies the second part of the book, which focuses on the techniques of ecological inference applied to estimating disaggregated data from observable aggregates. Finally, the book closes by presenting several applications that are in line with the functional areas definition in regional analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection challenges misconceptions that rural Canada is a bastion of intolerance. While examining the extent and nature of contemporary cultural and religious discrimination in rural Canadian communities, the editors and contributors explore the many efforts by rural citizens, community groups, and municipalities to counter intolerance, build inclusive communities, and become better neighbours. Throughout, scholars and community leaders focus on building new understandings, language, and ways of thinking about diversity and inclusion that will resonate with rural people. Scholars of rural studies will find this book useful as will rural community leaders and community organizers.
