Book Synopsis The Splendor of the Church in Mary: Henri de Lubac, Vatican II and Marian Ressourcement by : Nguyen Op Theresa Marie Chau
Download or read book The Splendor of the Church in Mary: Henri de Lubac, Vatican II and Marian Ressourcement written by Nguyen Op Theresa Marie Chau and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2023-05-05 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henri de Lubac, SJ, (1896-1991) is one of the most renowned theologians of the twentieth century. Numerous studies have been undertaken to examine his many contributions to theology, but little attention has been paid to the specific topic of the relationship of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Church in his writings. This was a topic that gave rise to contentious discussion at the Second Vatican Council, and although the Council fathers approved the integration of Marian doctrine into the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, this synthesis of Mariology and ecclesiology has been largely neglected in theology today. The Splendor of the Church in Mary retrieves de Lubac's Marian ecclesiology and revives an understanding and appreciation of its enduring influence at the Vatican Council and beyond. The first part examines de Lubac's pre-conciliar works which evince a steady biblical and patristic ressourcement of Marian themes. It also explores his writings on Teilhard de Chardin's Eternal Feminine, Christian mysticism, and Amida Buddhism and discovers in them the essential building blocks of his Marian thought. The second part turns to the Second Vatican Council and post-conciliar developments. Rereading the debates and texts of Lumen Gentium through a Marian lens brings to light the extent of de Lubac's influence: Méditation sur l'Eglise (1953), his principal work on Mary and the Church, anticipated the structure and content of Lumen Gentium a decade before the Council. De Lubac's writings provided a theological compass for the Council fathers, and they continue to provide direction and orientation for ecclesiological discourse today. The Splendor of the Church in Mary culminates in a constructive analysis of one of the most pressing pastoral and ecclesiological questions of our times: the question of the relationship of the universal and particular churches. Directly engaging the crucial debate between then-Cardinal Ratzinger and Cardinal Kasper, it proposes that de Lubac's Mariology effectively offers a new perspective and a refreshing path forward. Attentive to the mystical identification of Mary and the Church, de Lubac's ressourcement has the potential to re-enchant and advance contemporary theology in new and significant ways.

Download or read book Time in Marx written by Stavros Tombazos and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates that the basic concepts of the three volumes of Capital come under different categories of time: "time of production" in the first volume is linear, “time of circulation” in the second is circular, while in the third volume “organic time” is the unity of the two. Capitalist relations emerge as a definite organisation of social time that obeys its own intrinsic criteria and operates as an autonomous, social subject. Reading Capital from this perspective, it becomes possible to restore its dialectical (Hegelian) logic – not in order to reveal the “real” Marx, but as a means to contribute to the understanding of the real, capitalist world with its present-day fetishes, its explosive contradictions and its ever deeper crises.
Book Synopsis The Concept of "Sister Churches" in Catholic-Orthodox Relations since Vatican II by : Will T. Cohen
Download or read book The Concept of "Sister Churches" in Catholic-Orthodox Relations since Vatican II written by Will T. Cohen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-09-28 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Often invoked between Vatican II and the end of the twentieth century by both Orthodox and Catholic officials across their confessional division, the expression “sister churches” reflected their growing rapprochement, as well as a shift on the Catholic side from a more centralized ecclesiology to one more attentive to the local church and conciliarity. Pope John Paul II in his 1995 encyclical Ut Unum Sint spoke significantly of a “doctrine of sister churches” that would help guide the Catholic and Orthodox toward unity along a path of mutual respect rather than either tradition’s submission to the other. In his comprehensive treatment of the history of the expression “sister churches” over half a century of Catholic-Orthodox relations, Dr. Will Cohen explores why the concept developed as it did, why it was so fiercely contested, and what remains vital about the concept today. In the process, Dr. Cohen illuminates the ways in which Catholic and Orthodox ecclesiology, respectively, is each most capable of renewing and sustaining its proper balance when open to the authentic gifts of the other.

Book Synopsis Spiritual Exegesis and the Church in the Theology of Henri de Lubac by : Susan K. Wood
Download or read book Spiritual Exegesis and the Church in the Theology of Henri de Lubac written by Susan K. Wood and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-08-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henri De Lubac's work on medieval exegesis and his ecclesiological works are too often studied in isolation from each other. In countering this tendency, Susan Wood argues that de Lubac's work on spiritual exegesis is ultimately not about biblical exegesis and the four different meanings of the text but instead is intimately related to issues within the life of the church. Standing as the only study of de Lubac that interprets his theology through the categories of medieval exegesis, this volume provides the intellectual tools for thinking about a theology of history, a theology of symbol and sacrament, and a theology of the church's relationship to Christ and the Eucharist. Including an extensive bibliography of the primary and most important secondary sources of the theology of de Lubac, this study attributes the organic unity found in de Lubac's work to his immersion in the principles of spiritual exegesis and interprets his ecclesiology in the light of these principles.

Book Synopsis French Theories of Regulation and Conceptions of the International Division of Labour by : Alfredo C. Robles Jr
Download or read book French Theories of Regulation and Conceptions of the International Division of Labour written by Alfredo C. Robles Jr and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that a satisfactory theory of the international division of labour must come to grips with the problems of economism, functionalism and determinism that have sometimes characterised Marxian approaches to this theme. It assesses the implications of French regulation theories for this central concept of international political economy. It covers not only the Parisian variant, well represented in English through the work of Michel Aglietta and Alain Lipietz, but also the no less important Grenoble school.
