Book Synopsis Reflections of Glory by : Linda Belleville
Download or read book Reflections of Glory written by Linda Belleville and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1991-03-01 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part I of this work determines where Paul is dependent on Jewish and Hellenistic exegesis of the Moses story where he provides a fresh interpretation. Part II brings form-critical studies of the Greek papyri to bear on the epistolary function of these verses. Part III investigates first-century homiletic patterns, exegetical techniques and material parallels in order to illuminate the sequence of Paul's thought. At issue in these verses is Paul's apostolic credibility. Paul selectively weaves together text, tradition and haggadah, using accepted methods of text interpretation and a common Jewish homiletical form, to provide his readers with reliable standards of apostolic accreditation and to defend himself against those who sought to discredit him as a failure in reaching his own people.

Book Synopsis Naked Seeing by : Christopher Hatchell
Download or read book Naked Seeing written by Christopher Hatchell and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buddhism is in many ways a visual tradition, with its well-known practices of visualization, its visual arts, its epistemological writings that discuss the act of seeing, and its literature filled with images and metaphors of light. Some Buddhist traditions are also visionary, advocating practices by which meditators seek visions that arise before their eyes. Naked Seeing investigates such practices in the context of two major esoteric traditions, the Wheel of Time (Kalacakra) and the Great Perfection (Dzogchen). Both of these experimented with sensory deprivation, and developed yogas involving long periods of dwelling in dark rooms or gazing at the open sky. These produced unusual experiences of seeing, which were used to pursue some of the classic Buddhist questions about appearances, emptiness, and the nature of reality. Along the way, these practices gave rise to provocative ideas and suggested that, rather than being apprehended through internal insight, religious truths might also be seen in the exterior world-realized through the gateway of the eyes. Christopher Hatchell presents the intellectual and literary histories of these practices, and also explores the meditative techniques and physiology that underlie their distinctive visionary experiences. The book also offers for the first time complete English translations of three major Tibetan texts on visionary practice: a Kalacakra treatise by Yumo Mikyo Dorjé, The Lamp Illuminating Emptiness, a Nyingma Great Perfection work called The Tantra of the Blazing Lamps, and a Bön Great Perfection work called Advice on the Six Lamps, along with a detailed commentary on this by Drugom Gyalwa Yungdrung.

Book Synopsis The Natural Openness and Freedom of the Mind by : Khangsar Tenpa'i Wangchuk
Download or read book The Natural Openness and Freedom of the Mind written by Khangsar Tenpa'i Wangchuk and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of the collected works of the modern Tibetan master Khangsar Tenpa’i Wangchuk is the root text and commentary on the Dzogchen tantra called The Natural Openness and Freedom of the Mind, a verse text on the direct practices to realize the nature of mind taught within the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. This is a modern commentary on a Dzogchen tantra titled The Natural Freedom and Openness of the Mind, covering the practices of trekcho, thogal, and bardo. This tantra is a mind terma, or treasure, of the early modern terton, or treasure revealer, Deshek Lingpa (1842–1907), and incarnation of Yudra Nyingpo, a student of Yeshe Tsogyal, preeminent female consort of Padmasambhava, through whom the transmission lineage of this teaching is said to descend. The commentary presents the approach to enlightenment taught in this tradition. These instructions are considered advanced and secret, to be taught only to those who have received transmission from a qualified master. For the curious reader outside of the tradition, this book offers a clear and concise introduction to way the Nyingma tradition frames Buddhist cosmology, mind, liberation, and prayer.

Book Synopsis Short-Range Optical Wireless by : Mohsen Kavehrad
Download or read book Short-Range Optical Wireless written by Mohsen Kavehrad and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-01-19 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the fundamental aspects of multiple-source Optical Wireless Applications, including Visible Light Communications (VLC). Moreover, the authors explore VLC performance in several conventional household layouts and investigate the impact of these layouts on VLC. Multiple sources increase multipath distortion. Multi-input- Multi-Output (MIMO) techniques will be included as they provide either reliability improvement or bandwidth efficiency increase. Based on these topics, the book further explores VLC performance in real applications, such as aircraft cabin wireless communications. In addition, the authors describe the Lambertian emitting pattern of LEDs and the diffused features in indoor environments. Based on the theory, they trace light pulses to establish a MIMO indoor wireless channel model on specific sources layout. Next, they generate test data to simulate BER distribution in a room and calculate the outage. Furthermore, addresses the performance improvement when MIMO techniques are applied. Lastly, the authors investigate VLC performance in specific applications, including for aircraft on-board wireless communications. Finally, the pitfalls of MIMO systems are discussed.
