In a world that is traveling faster than a rollercoaster, we will always find ourselves in a valley of decision The search for enlightenment, motivation and inspiration is the fuel that drives us and keeps us on the path we need to go. It allows us to go forward and not keep on going through the same revolving door in life. Words that inspire us and allows us to gain insight and question ourselves, will require answers to how we look at life and what we might have to do to change our perception about many different things. Sometimes words suddenly make us surprise ourselves, in realizing somewhere along lifes roll call, we have been missing a beat. We shock ourselves into admitting we were wrong or right about some things, but totally out of touch about other things, and like it or not we have to change our outlook Such is progress, but it also tells us something about ourselves, and how essential change is in all our lives in order to move forward in the march of time. When wisdom enters your heart and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you, understanding will keep you. Proverbs 2:verse 10 & 11 Reflections through an Hourglass takes you on a tour of your heart and mind to your inner being so you might look into and question the meaning of your purpose in this life Every life is a Storybook. from the Introduction

Book Synopsis Symmetries of Culture by : Dorothy Koster Washburn
Download or read book Symmetries of Culture written by Dorothy Koster Washburn and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 1988 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A very appealing book. It deals with the analysis of repetitive patterns in decorative art as a means of classifying designs. A collaboration by an anthropologist (Washburn, U. Rochester) and a mathematician (Crowe, U. of Wisc.), it makes only the gentlest use of math/geometry, the principles of which are presented. These allow a discussion of color symmetry, one- and two-dimensional patterns, and finite design. History and problems of classification are covered. An important work. Book Synopsis The Bible and the Printed Image in Early Modern England by : Michael Gaudio
Download or read book The Bible and the Printed Image in Early Modern England written by Michael Gaudio and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book-length study of the fifteen surviving Little Gidding bible concordances, this book examines the visual culture of print in seventeenth-century England through the lens of one extraordinary family and their hand-made biblical manuscripts. The volumes were created by the women of the Ferrar-Collet family of Little Gidding, who selected works from the family's collection of Catholic religious prints, and then cut and pasted prints and print fragments, along with verses excised from the bible, and composed them in artful arrangements on the page in the manner of collage. Gaudio shows that by cutting, recombining, and pasting multi-scaled print fragments, the Ferrar-Collet family put into practice a remarkably flexible pictorial language. The Little Gidding concordances provide an occasion to explore how the manipulation of print could be a means of thinking through some of the most pressing religious and political questions of the pre-civil war period: the coherence of printed scripture, the nature of sovereignty, the relevance of the Mosaic law, and the protestant reform of images. By foregrounding the Ferrar-Collets' engagement with the print fragment, this book extends the scope of early modern print history beyond the printmaker's studio and expands our understanding of the ways an early modern Protestant community could productively engage with the religious image. Contrary to the long-held view that the English Reformation led to a decline in the importance of the religious image, this study demonstrates the ongoing vitality of religious prints in early modern England as instruments for thinking.
