Jan Richardson, a gifted poet, artist, and author, believes it is essential for women to listen to one another's wisdom and bring the fullness of their lives, with all the wonders and messiness, into their prayer life. In the Sanctuary of Women gathers together these women from scripture and history: Eve Brigid of Kildare The desert mothers Hildegard of Bingen Harriet Powers The Woman of the Song of Songs Each chapter becomes its own sanctuary, with one of the women serving as a companion as you contemplate the theme that her life offers. Throughout the readings Richardson weaves her own stories, poetry, prayers, and blessings. Midway through each chapter, a section called "The Secret Room" gives you a chance to pause and reflect on unexpected insights. Reading the book daily will carry you through six months, or you can dip into the readings as you wish. Download or read book TIME written by Dumitru Staniloae and published by SLG Press. This book was released on 2023-10-20 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fairacres Publications 208 This book brings together essays by two outstanding Orthodox theologians to examine the paradox of time in relation to the eternity of God: Dumitru Stăniloae’s, ‘Eternity and Time’, a talk given to the Sisters of the Love of God in 1971, was expanded in the first volume of his Teologia dogmatica ortodoxa (3 vols., Bucharest, 1978). The preface to the 1994 English translation of that work, Orthodox Dogmatic Theology, written by Kallistos Ware, was based on his essay, ‘Time: Prison or Path to Freedom?’, which was first published in 1989 by SLG Press. These reflections, brought together for the first time here, remain at the forefront of modern theology. Stăniloae illuminates time as a journey on which we may grow in response to the love that God offers us, a journey towards sharing in the eternity of the perfect, interpersonal communion of the Trinity. God, in His Incarnation, shares the journey with us in Christ, so that time enters into eternity, and eternity is brought into time. At every moment we are free to choose between responding to His love or rejecting it. Ware’s essay explains that it is the vocation of time to be open to eternity; time is fulfilled when God’s eternity breaks into the temporal sequence, as happened supremely at Christ’s birth in Bethlehem, as happens also at every Eucharist. Our faith is the true rationale of time: mutual love after the image of the Trinity.

Book Synopsis An Ecology of the Heart by : Duncan Forbes
Download or read book An Ecology of the Heart written by Duncan Forbes and published by SLG Press. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terms such as ‘climate grief’ and ‘ecological anxiety’ describe the sadness and desolation triggered in many people in response to our changing climate. What are we to do with this aching that is sometimes dull, sometimes sharp? Nowhere is immune from extreme weather events, from physical suffering and even death. How should we react to this? These are questions that are central to every religious account of the world and its peoples. This book looks at the insights that can be gained from the world’s faith traditions, particularly Christianity. By considering the extent of the ecological crises that humanity faces, this book discusses the new and searching questions that these crises raise for us and for our faith, and how those questions reflect our approach to our environment and our responsibility in and for the world.
Book Synopsis Sayings of the Urban Fathers & Mothers by : James Ashdown CJN
Download or read book Sayings of the Urban Fathers & Mothers written by James Ashdown CJN and published by SLG Press. This book was released on 2023-02-13 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fairacres Publications 198 I wrote these stories when I was living in Hackney, East London. Life was quite hard. My health was poor, I was re-evaluating my career and I was beginning to recognize that I needed to leave London which had been my home for twenty years. It was a place I had grown to love: its estates, its religions, its shabby backstreets, its people from all over the world. Then I discovered the ‘old men’, the Egyptian Desert Fathers and Mothers of the fourth and fifth centuries. They entranced me. So every day before starting work I would translate one of their sayings into the context I knew: the urban wilderness that is Babylondon (a Rastafarian term for London). Reading these reworkings again after ten years I found they made me cry and realized they were a love letter to the London I knew, and a hymn of gratitude to the ‘old men’ who saved my life.
Book Synopsis Prayer Too Deep for Words by : Sr Edmée Kingsmill SLG
Download or read book Prayer Too Deep for Words written by Sr Edmée Kingsmill SLG and published by SLG Press. This book was released on 2024-08-30 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fairacres Publications 215 In this short book Sister Edmée examines the importance of silence in a prayerful life, not only outward silence, but the need to achieve stillness within, and what this means in terms of our approach to God in prayer. She also examines a more active silence: that of Christ when he listened to those who brought their troubles to him for healing. Her words come from a place of understanding and sympathy, encouraging us not to despair in the noise and complexity of modern life, but to persevere in seeking God in the silence of our hearts, in prayer too deep for words.
