Book Synopsis Reference Point and Case by : Chongwon Park
Download or read book Reference Point and Case written by Chongwon Park and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2019-12-12 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph answers the rarely discussed questions of why complicated grammatical case phenomena exist in Korean and what the connection is between the case forms and their functions. The author argues that the case forms in Korean reflect patterns of the human cognitive process. While this approach may seem rather obvious to non-linguists, it is indeed a novel claim in contemporary linguistic theory. In order to provide technical analyses of Korean case phenomena such as multiple nominative/accusative, non-nominative subject, and adverbial case constructions, this book adopts an independently established descriptive construct known as reference point in the framework of Cognitive Grammar. The author demonstrates that the notion of reference point not only explains a substantially wider set of data, but also leads to a more reasonable generalization. The intended readership of this book are researchers who are interested in case phenomena, irrespective of their theoretical orientation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very rarely do people understand the forces that allow us to rise above adversity and achieve greatness. There are so many dead ends and pitfalls that come with life on earth. The Reference Point demonstrates that if you dedicate yourself to reflecting on your spirituality and your inner being that greatness can manifest itself. The Reference Point exemplifies struggle and success almost like ying and yang. What I gain from The Reference Point is that one needs to undergo the trials and tribulations in life in order to appreciate the true beauty that our spiritual journey takes us on. The Reference Point is our spiritual compass in many ways and provides a map of who we are and where we started. It will always bring us back if we allow our spiritual self to take change and grow. We should ask ourselves what is our Reference Point and how did we get to where we are in life. --MARCAL GRAHAM, Ed.D Author of Seeing the Need and Choosing to Lead

Book Synopsis Understanding Consumer Financial Behavior by : W. Fred van Raaij
Download or read book Understanding Consumer Financial Behavior written by W. Fred van Raaij and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government policies, marketing campaigns of banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions, and consumers' protective actions all depend on assumptions about consumer financial behavior. Unfortunately, many consumers have no or little knowledge of budgeting, financial products, and financial planning. It is therefore important that organizations and market authorities know why consumers spend, borrow, insure, invest, and save for their retirement - or why they do not. Understanding Consumer Financial Behavior provides a systemic economic and behavioral approach to the way people handle their finances. It discusses the different types of financial behaviors consumers may engage in and explores the psychological explanations for their behavior and choices. This exciting new book is essential reading for scholars of marketing, finance, and management; financial professionals; and consumer policy makers.
Book Synopsis Anaphora and Conceptual Structure by : Karen van Hoek
Download or read book Anaphora and Conceptual Structure written by Karen van Hoek and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1997-09-02 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karen van Hoek presents a cogent analysis of the classic problem of constraints on pronominal anaphora within the framework of Cognitive Grammar. Van Hoek proceeds from the position that grammatical structure can be characterized in terms of semantic and phonological representations, without autonomous syntactic structures or principles such as tree structures or c-command. She argues that constraints on anaphora can be explained in terms of semantic interactions between nominals and the contexts in which they are embedded. Integrating the results of previous work, Van Hoek develops a model in which some nominals function as "conceptual reference points" that dominate over stretches defined by the semantic relations among elements. When a full noun is in the domain of a reference point, coreference is ruled out, since the speaker would be sending contradictory messages about the salience of the noun's referent. With profound implications for the nature of syntax, this book will interest theoretical linguists of all persuasions.

Book Synopsis Customer Science: Behavioral Insights for Creating Breakthrough Customer Experiences by : Alexander Chernev
Download or read book Customer Science: Behavioral Insights for Creating Breakthrough Customer Experiences written by Alexander Chernev and published by Cerebellum Press. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the strategic principles that define the customer experience. Building on the recent findings in the domains of behavioral economics and social psychology, Customer Science discusses the customer experience from three different perspectives: what customers do—how they identify a problem, seek a solution, and interact with the offering; what they think and feel during this process—how they evaluate different market offerings; and what motivates their behavior—why they act the way they do. In this context, it examines all components of the customer experience—from activating a need to buying a company’s offerings, to becoming a loyal customer and advocate for the company. The different stages of customer interaction with the company and its offerings are presented in the form of a customer experience map, which functions as the organizing principle for this book. The customer experience map is the blueprint for understanding the different stages of the customer experience and facilitating managerial decision making at each stage. The customer experience map is also the foundation of the customer experience canvas, a practical tool to identify the key questions managers should ask as they strive to create impactful customer experiences.

Book Synopsis Frames of Understanding in Text and Discourse by : Alexander Ziem
Download or read book Frames of Understanding in Text and Discourse written by Alexander Ziem and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-10-15 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do words mean? What is the nature of meaning? How can we grasp a word’s meaning? The frame-semantic approach developed in this book offers some well-founded answers to such long-standing, but still controversial issues. Following Charles Fillmore’s definition of frames as both organizers of experience and tools for understanding, the monograph attempts to examine one of the most important concepts of Cognitive Linguistics in more detail. The point of departure is Fillmore’s conception of “frames of understanding” – an approach to (cognitive) semantics that Fillmore developed from 1975 to 1985. The envisaged Understanding Semantics (“U-Semantics”) is a semantic theory sui generis whose significance for linguistic research cannot be overestimated. In addition to its crucial role in the development of the theoretical foundations of U-semantics, corpus-based frame semantics can be applied fruitfully in the investigation of knowledge-building processes in text and discourse.

Book Synopsis Perceptual Issues in Visualization by : Georges Grinstein
Download or read book Perceptual Issues in Visualization written by Georges Grinstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increase in the amount and dimensionality of scientific data collected, new approaches to the design of displays of such data have become essential. The designers of visual and auditory displays of scientific data seek to harness perceptual processes for data exploration. The general aim is to provide ways for raw data, and the statistical and mathematical structures they comprise, to "speak for themselves" and, thereby, enable scientists to conduct exploratory, in addition to confirmatory analyses of their data. The present primary approach via visualization depends mainly on coding data as positions of visually distinguishable elements in a two- or three- dimen sional euclidean space, e.g., as discrete points comprising clusters in scatter-plot displays and as patches comprising the hills and valleys of statistical surfaces. These displays are immensely effective because the data are in a form that evokes natural perceptual processing of the data into impressions of the presence and spatial disposition of apparent materials, objects, and structures in the viewers apparent physical environment. The problem with this mode of display, however, is that its perceptual potency is largeiy exhausted at dimension three, while we increasingly face the need to explore data of much greater dimensionality. The challenge posed for visualization researchers is to develop new modes of display that can push the dimensionality of data displays higher while retaining the kind of perceptual potency needed for data exploration.
