Book Synopsis Problems in Biblical Theology by : Henry T. C. Sun
Download or read book Problems in Biblical Theology written by Henry T. C. Sun and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-06-07 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trained in the German tradition, Rolf Knierim is a scholar who has made many significant contributions to the ongoing discussion of form criticism, tradition history, and theology. He is also a passionate and charismatic teacher and a widely respected author and editor who has served the scholarly world most visibly in his role as coeditor of the Forms of the Old Testament Literature commentary series. Problems in Biblical Theology is an erudite collection of twenty four essays produced to honor Knierim's contribution to the study of biblical theology. It also stands in its own right as a vade mecum of current trends in biblical scholarship. Written by an international array of respected scholars--Knierim's colleagues, former students, and fellow commentators--this volume includes detailed exegetical studies, discussions of theological methods and approaches from a variety of standpoints, and efforts at relating Old Testament exegesis, theology, and hermeneutics to current interests in social scientific methods of interpretation or postmodern thought. In all, the breadth of interests found in this volume reflects the intellectual vitality and passion that Knierim himself has brought to the discipline. A biographical narrative written by Hildegard Knierim and a foreword by James M. Robinson provide additional insight into the historical and social contexts within which Knierim's work has unfolded.

This book was released on 2023-06-26 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no conflict between the Bible and science that is evidence-based. The conflict is between belief in the Biblical Worldview and belief in a non-biblical worldview. If a claim about nature is not testable or observable and then confirmable, it is not science. This book shows where evidence-based science supports the Biblical Worldview, and where evidence-based science conflicts with the other so-called “scientific” worldviews of our modern times. For instance, experiments have shown over and over that life does not arise from chemicals, observations show that biological change is limited, chance does not cause anything, and the Big Bang violates the principle of cause and effect, is not testable, and therefore is not scientific. In his 1859 book, On the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin correctly wrote about his “belief in the transmutation of species” (p302), that “The theory of natural selection is grounded on . . . belief” (p320), and that he believed we descended from one common ancestor (p484). Darwin believed in evolution because he had no evidence. Concerning On the Origin of Species, he admitted that “the whole volume is one long argument” (p459). Concerning God, Darwin wrote about “. . . the laws impressed on matter by the Creator” (p488). Yet, evolutionist Jerry Coyne of the University of Chicago wrote that “the bulk of Darwin’s 1859 book, On the Origin of Species (first edition) actually comprises evidence for evolution.” This claim was in a 2014 letter from atheists complaining about the author to his University President. A signer of this letter (from the Freedom From Religion Foundation) was British multi-millionaire, Richard Dawkins. Atheists such as Coyne and Dawkins have no evidence for their claims that life came from chemicals, that we descended from a common ancestor, or that there is no God. They believe these claims.

Download or read book Traditional Festivals [2 volumes] written by Christian Roy and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2005-06-29 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This illustrated reference work covers a wide range of festivals that have sacred origins and are, or have been, part of a folk tradition, a world religion, or a major civilization. Traditional Festivals: A Multicultural Encyclopedia travels around the world and across the centuries to uncover an often unexpected richness of meaning in some of the major sacred festivals of the world's religions, the hallowed calendars of ancient civilizations, and the seasonal celebrations of tribal cultures. From Akitu to Yom Kippur, its 150+ entries look at the content and context of these festivals from a number of perspectives (including those relating to theology, anthropology, folklore, and social theory), tracing their historical development and variations across cultures. Readers will get a vivid sense of what each festival means to the people celebrating it; how each captures its culture's beliefs, hopes and fears, founding myths, and redemptive visions; and how each expresses the universal need of humans to connect their lives to a timeless spiritual dimension.
