Book Synopsis Recycle Based Organic Agriculture in a City by : Seishu Tojo
Download or read book Recycle Based Organic Agriculture in a City written by Seishu Tojo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the significance of urban agricultural production, the technologies and methods for supplying organic materials to the farmland, recovering plant nutrients and energy in cities, and systems for sustaining farmlands in order to produce agricultural crops and supply safe food to citizens. Focusing on the effective recycling of biomass waste generated in cities for use in organic farming, it discusses alternatives to traditional composting, such as carbonizing organic waste, which not only produces recyclable materials but also converts organic waste into energy. Recycling discarded organic matter appropriately and reusing it as both material and energy is the basis of new urban organic farming, and represents a major challenge for the next generation of urban agriculture. As such, the book presents advanced research findings to facilitate the implementation of safe, organic agricultural production with only a small environmental load.

Book Synopsis Toward Sustainable Municipal Organic Waste Management in South Asia by : Asian Development Bank
Download or read book Toward Sustainable Municipal Organic Waste Management in South Asia written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The massive scale of urbanization in South Asia is expected to create a surge in demand for solid waste services. An enormous opportunity exists to improve upon the "business-as-usual" approach of uncollected waste and open dumping witnessed throughout the region and to convert this waste into value-added resources, such as alternative fuels and agricultural fertilizers. As approximately 70% of the region's municipal waste stream is currently organic (biodegradable) waste, methods such as composting, anaerobic digestion, and conversion to refuse-derived fuels offer a more sustainable course of action. This report aims to align South Asian cities with Strategy 2020 of the Asian Development Bank for environmentally sustainable growth and livable cities. It provides a useful management resource, identifying key issues and pointing policy makers, city managers, and practitioners to improved waste treatment technologies.

The characteristics of a number of organic waste materials from a variety of sources, and the pollution and health risks which may be associated with them are described. The central core of the book presents a broad range of technologies used in the recycling of organic waste materials to produce valuable products such as : fertiliser, biogas, algae, fish and irrigated crops. Each recycling technology is described with respect to : objectives, benefits and limitations, environmental requirements, design criteria of the process, use of recycled products and public health aspects. This second edition has been completely revised and up-dated. It includes new sections on: waste minimisation and clean technology, application of constructed wetlands and regulatory aspects of waste disposal and recycling. Book Synopsis Corporate Social Responsibility and Local Community in Asia by : Kyoko Fukukawa
Download or read book Corporate Social Responsibility and Local Community in Asia written by Kyoko Fukukawa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-03 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of corporations exercising corporate social responsibility has spread from the West and is now firmly embedded in Asian countries and in Asian corporations. The latest trend in corporate social responsibility, evident also in Asia, is for corporations to apply corporate social responsibility to local communities and to those at the bottom of the social hierarchy. This book explores corporations’ social responsibility engagement with local communities in a range of Asian countries. It provides examples of corporate social responsibility in a wide range of industrial sectors, focuses extensively on "social enterprises" and on governments’ and corporations’ schemes to encourage them, considers how relations with employees and with local workforces fit into the pattern of corporate social responsibility, and discusses the question as to how far corporations engage with local communities as a way of developing new markets for their products.
