Book Synopsis Speech Communication and Theater Arts by : Merilyn Merenda
Download or read book Speech Communication and Theater Arts written by Merilyn Merenda and published by Springer. This book was released on 1979-10-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A glance through the Table of Contents will demonstrate the many categories comprising the fields of Speech Communication and Theatre. The thesis and dissertation titles which have been categorized appeared between the years 1973 and 1978. For those titles which could readily have been placed into more than one category, we did our best to pick the category which seemed to represent the main thrust of the work. We have also provided cross references for all such titles. As addi tional aids to the student, we have provided subject and school indexes. Although we have tried to produce an error-free copy, we feel that a few titles may contain minor mistakes because of the copy sent to us by some of the schools and libraries. Also, as in any bibliography, there may be certain omissions in ours, but hope fully these have been kept to a minimum. Finally, in putting together this work, we hope we have pro vided the serious students of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts with a valuable guide to their own research. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS We are above all indebted to Dr. Arthur N. Kruger who not only conceived the idea for this book, but who also played a major role in supervising the work and bringing it to fruition. We also appreciate the introduction he has written for us.

Book Synopsis The Theatre of Work by Clive Wilkinson by : Clive Wilkinson
Download or read book The Theatre of Work by Clive Wilkinson written by Clive Wilkinson and published by Frame Publishers. This book was released on 2019-06-02 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architect and writer Clive Wilkinson examines global developments in the workplace and proposes innovative principles for a design process that will bring the concept of ‘work as theatre’ to fruition. The modern workplace has evolved to provide better technology and more amenities for employees, but what advances have been made in building truly creative communities that spark creativity and collaboration? Is the 21st century office performing at its peak? The Theatre of Work proposes an evolution of the relationship between office users and the spaces they occupy. As work processes and community relationships evolve, new collaborative synergies within the workplace are created. The interplay between space and people offers a new kind of theatre where parallels with the archetypal theatre of the street and the marketplace occur. This emerging new workspace should amplify and celebrate the activity of work and of human community, and in the process, become vital and compelling theatre. In defining this new office landscape, architect and writer Clive Wilkinson examines global developments in workplace thinking, historical antecedents, the performance touch-points for the new office, and proposes seven humanistic principles that will inform a holistic design process that can bring this concept of theatre to fruition. Each of these principles is demonstrated through case studies of the work of his renowned design studio, Clive Wilkinson Architects (CWa), with rich iconography, diagrammatic strategy and contextual ingenuity. The outcome of this process, with its multiple performative layers, effectively promotes elevating a corporate brief of basic needs and goals to a profoundly human-centered presentation of ‘work as theatre’.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2021, its Diamond Jubilee year, the Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) undertook to revise Theatre Buildings: A Design Guide (Routledge, 2010). This new edition (Routledge, 2023) has substantially re-written text with fresh images and entirely new reference projects, providing essential guidance for all those engaged in the design of theatre buildings. Edited by Margaret Shewring (Emeritus Reader, University of Warwick, former Director of the Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Theatre Consultancy), this new publication is written by a team of international experts, architects, theatre consultants, acousticians, engineers and industry professionals led by Tim Foster (Foster Wilson Size) and Robin Townley (CEO of the ABTT). It provides an invaluable resource for those looking to build, remodel or conserve theatre buildings, taking into account the significant changes which have taken place in the last twelve years in all aspects of theatre design and technical practice. It locates those changes in the wider context of the need for sustainability in the theatre industry in response to the climate emergency, inclusivity, diversity of access, placemaking and concerns for health and wellbeing. This new edition provides guidance for anyone who seeks inspiration and encouragement to create or improve a place of entertainment or who seeks to understand what might be required to accommodate an audience for the presentation of live performance and the successful use, operation and organisation of such a venue. Its generous format and the thirty-two new reference projects, more than 260 high-resolution colour images and 175 diagrams and specially commissioned plans make it accessible and informative both to the general reader and the professional specialist.
