Book Synopsis De France en Nouvelle-France by : Cornelius J. Jaenen
Download or read book De France en Nouvelle-France written by Cornelius J. Jaenen and published by University of Ottawa Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Jeux de voix by : Florence Bertholet
Download or read book Jeux de voix written by Florence Bertholet and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Divine Names on the Spot by : Fabio Porzia
Download or read book Divine Names on the Spot written by Fabio Porzia and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Ancient Greek and Semitic languages resorted to a large range of words to name the divine. Gods and goddesses were called by a variety of names and combinations of onomastic attributes. This broad lexicon of names is characterised by plurality and a tendency to build on different sequences of names; therefore, the Mapping Ancient Polytheisms project focuses on the process of naming the divine in order to better understand the ancient divine in terms of a plurality in the making. A fundamental rule for reading ancient divine names is to grasp them in their context - time and place, a ritual, the form of the discourse, a cultural milieu...: a deity is usually named according to a specific situation. From Artemis Eulochia to al-Lat, al-'Uzza and Manat, from Melqart to "my rock" in the biblical book of Psalms, this volume journeys between the sanctuary on Mount Gerizim and late antique magical practices, revisiting rituals, hymnic poetry, oaths of orators and philosophical prayers. While targeting different names in different contexts, the contributors draft theoretical propositions towards a dynamic approach of naming the divine in antiquity.'

His paintings, especially his rugged landscapes and their evocation of the sublime, appealed to Romantic writers, and his work was highly influential on several generations of European writers. James S. Patty, professor emeritus of French at Vanderbilt University, is the author of Dürer in French Letters . He lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
Book Synopsis Lay Readings of the Bible in Early Modern Europe by : Erminia Ardissino
Download or read book Lay Readings of the Bible in Early Modern Europe written by Erminia Ardissino and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-12-30 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this collection of essays is to bring together new comparative research studies on the place and role of the Bible in early modern Europe. It focuses on lay readings of the Bible, interrogating established historical, social, and confessional paradigms. It highlights the ongoing process of negotiation between the faithful congregation and ecclesiastical institutions, in both Protestant and Catholic countries. It shows how, even in the latter, where biblical translations were eventually forbidden, the laity drew upon the Bible as a source of ethical, cultural, and spiritual inspiration, contributing to the evolution of central aspects of modernity. Interpreting the Bible could indeed be a means of feeding critical perspectives and independent thought and behavior. Contributors: Erminia Ardissino, Xavier Bisaro, Élise Boillet, Gordon Campbell, Jean-Pierre Cavaillé, Sabrina Corbellini, François Dupuigrenet Desroussilles, Max Engammare, Wim François, Ignacio J. García Pinilla, Stefano Gattei, Margriet Hoogvliet, Tadhg Ó hAnnracháin, and Concetta Pennuto.
Book Synopsis The Musical Work of Nadia Boulanger by : Jeanice Brooks
Download or read book The Musical Work of Nadia Boulanger written by Jeanice Brooks and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nadia Boulanger - composer, critic, impresario and the most famous composition teacher of the twentieth century - was also a performer of international repute. Her concerts and recordings with her vocal ensemble introduced audiences on both sides of the Atlantic to unfamiliar historical works and new compositions. This book considers how gender shaped the possibilities that marked Boulanger's performing career, tracing her meteoric rise as a conductor in the 1930s to origins in the classroom and the salon. Brooks investigates Boulanger's promotion of structurally motivated performance styles, showing how her ideas on performance of historical repertory and new music relate to her teaching of music analysis and music history. The book explores the way in which Boulanger's musical practice relied upon her understanding of the historically transcendent masterwork, in which musical form and meaning are ideally joined, and shows how her ideas relate to broader currents in French aesthetics and culture.

Download or read book Claude Le Jeune et son temps en France et dans les Etats de Savoie, 1530-1600 written by Institut de recherches et d'histoire musicale des Etats de Savoie and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 1996 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
