Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Reminiscences of the War of 1861-1865 Yielding to the suggestions of many companions and friends, who read my war reminiscences in The Buchanan News and Fincastle Herald, I have concluded to publish them in pamphlet form. They do not pretend to anything more than a personal illustration of what passed before the eyes of the writer, who bore an inconspicuous part in the bloody drama that was written on the pages of American history, 1861 to 1865. This second edition is published fifty-two years after the incidents herein mentioned occurred. In the past half century, the checkerboard of personal events in the writer's life is radiant with events of peril, pathos and pleasure, mingled with success and misfortune that has ebbed and flowed, rendering his life somewhat similar to Thackaray's "Story of Philip On His Way Through the World," who helped him, who kicked him, and who passed him by. If spared to reach my four-score years it is probable I will write and leave them as a legacy for the next generation. Book Synopsis Japan and Christianity by : John Breen
Download or read book Japan and Christianity written by John Breen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written of the 'success' of the early missions to Japan during the decades immediately following the arrival of the first Jesuits in 1549. The subsequent 'failure' of the faith to put down roots strong enough to survive this initial wave of enthusiasm is discussed with equal alacrity. The papers in this volume, born of a Conference marking the centenary of the Japan Society of London, represent an attempt to reassess the contact between Christianity and Japan in terms of a symbiotic relationship, a dialogue in which the impact of Japan on the imported religion is viewed alongside the more frequently cited influence of Christianity on Japanese society. Here is a dynamic cultural encounter, examined by the papers in this volume from a series of political, literary and historical perspectives.
Book Synopsis European Cases of the Reincarnation Type by : Ian Stevenson, M.D.
Download or read book European Cases of the Reincarnation Type written by Ian Stevenson, M.D. and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-09-02 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many cultures accept that a person may die and then come back to life in another form, but Westerners have traditionally rejected the idea. Recently, however, surveys conducted in Europe indicate a substantial increase in the number of Europeans who believe in reincarnation, and numerous claims of reincarnation have been reported. This book examines particular cases in Europe that are suggestive of reincarnation. The first section provides a brief history of the belief in reincarnation among Europeans. The second section considers eight cases from the first third of the twentieth century that were not independently investigated, but were reported and sometimes published by the persons concerned. The third section covers 32 cases from the second half of the twentieth century that were investigated by the author. Many of these cases involved either children who exhibited unusual behavior attributed to a previous life, or adults who experienced recurrent or vivid dreams attributed to a previous life. In the fourth section, the author compares European cases suggestive of reincarnation with those of other countries and cultures.

Download or read book Many Mansions written by Gina Cerminara and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2019-06-25 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bestselling account of the many healings and other works of a legendary psychic and an affirmation of the belief in reincarnation. In this study of one of America’s greatest psychics, Edgar Cayce, Gina Cerminara explores the “magnificent possibility” of reincarnation as not only a method to understand our existence, but the truth of it. Using Cayce’s detailed and expansive files that span decades of his research and practice in the field of psychic phenomena, Cerminara delves into the essential essence of reincarnation and its purpose. Told winningly and to the heart of the matter, Many Mansions will be a revelation to many and a confirmation to some about the meaning of human life and the myriad of opportunities afforded to us by the existence of reincarnation. Praise for Many Mansions “Dr. Cerminara . . . is one of the most engaging and penetrating scholars in this field. . . . Perhaps the most attractive quality in her writing is the leavening of wit and insight which shines in these pages.” —Robert Kirsch, Los Angeles Times “Edgar Cayce was clearly one of the most remarkable psychics who ever lived. Gina Cerminara’s compelling book is . . . unique and extremely important.” —Jeane Dixon
