Book Synopsis Value Based Performance Measures by : Nils Eikelmann
Download or read book Value Based Performance Measures written by Nils Eikelmann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-19 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nils Eikelmann describes the framework conditions for the application of value-based performance measures and critically analyses selected ones. The disclosure of value-based performance indicators is important in order to demonstrate the successful management of a company and to satisfy the increasing information needs of investors. However, companies adapt the developed theoretical concepts of value-based performance measures to their practical needs and thus investors are no longer able to compare the performance of companies. In addition, there is a variety of different metrics from which companies can choose. The empirical study aims to reduce existing research gaps and is divided into three parts: the analysis of annual reports of selected European companies, the calculation of a standardised value-based performance measure and a value relevance study in the form of an association study.
Book Synopsis Earnings Accruals and Real Activities Management around Initial Public Offerings by : Peter Ising
Download or read book Earnings Accruals and Real Activities Management around Initial Public Offerings written by Peter Ising and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-06 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The beginning of the new millennium was characterized by company scandals in accounting around the world. A transparent and fair presentation of financial statements is beneficial for capital market participants. Especially around initial public offerings different incentives of these players exist to influence financial statements in diverse aspects. Therefore, studies of earnings management try to identify abnormal behavior. Peter Ising covers additional aspects to shed light on substantial drivers of discretionary reporting behavior around going public. Factors like influence on real activities, industry affiliation, and specific years in the IPO process add further insight to this theoretical and practical topic. The dependence on these factors is high and confirms that company specifics are important for interpretation of financial results.

Book Synopsis Generating Families in the Restricted Three-Body Problem by : Michel Henon
Download or read book Generating Families in the Restricted Three-Body Problem written by Michel Henon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classical restricted problem of three bodies is of fundamental importance for its applications to astronomy and space navigation, and also as a simple model of a non-integrable Hamiltonian dynamical system. A central role is played by periodic orbits, of which a large number have been computed numerically. In this book an attempt is made to explain and organize this material through a systematic study of generating families, which are the limits of families of periodic orbits when the mass ratio of the two main bodies becomes vanishingly small. The most critical part is the study of bifurcations, where several families come together and it is necessary to determine how individual branches are joined. Many different cases must be distinguished and studied separately. Detailed recipes are given. Their use is illustrated by determining a number of generating families, associated with natural families of the restricted problem, and comparing them with numerical computations in the Earth-Moon and Sun-Jupiter case.

Book Synopsis The Economics and Politics of Accounting by : Christian Leuz
Download or read book The Economics and Politics of Accounting written by Christian Leuz and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-09-15 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accounting and the role of accountants has permeated the modern societies. For the most part we have accepted the impartiality and objectivity of accounting and not recognized how accounting systems are embedded in a country's economic and legal framework, much of which is in turn shaped by political processes. This web of interactions results in complex economic and political questions which require accounting researchers to focus on several related trends: information economics, regulatory economics, sociology, and political science. Although considerable progress has been made in the field of accounting, many fundamental questions are still subject to debate. In this book leading international scholars address a number of important questions: · What is the role of accounting in security valuation, decision making and contracting? · What can we learn from economics-based research in accounting? · What is the role of auditing and how can accounting standards be enforced? · What are the cost and benefits of accounting and disclosure regulation? · What is the role of accounting in society? · How does lobbying affect the political process of standard setting? · What are the consequences of the internationalization of standard setting? This seminal book will be of interest to academics, researchers, and graduate students of Accounting, Finance, Business Studies, Sociology, and Political Economy.

Download or read book Workplace Spirituality written by Yochanan Altman and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-01-19 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Workplace spirituality is an emerging field of study and practice and this book asks the questions: Where have we been in the last ten years as a field and where should we be headed in the next ten years? The editors asked these questions of thought leaders from around the globe, leaders who represent different sectors, faith traditions, worldviews and organizational functions. This volume represents the best of current thinking about the state of the field of workplace spirituality and of what the future holds. There are four themes: (1) management themes such as leadership, ethics, change management, and diversity; (2) workplace spirituality in sectors such as health and wellbeing, policing and creative industries, (3) key issues that are emerging, such as self-spirituality, mindfulness, storytelling and the importance of nature, and (4) cutting edge epistemologies and methodologies including indigenous studies, relational ontology, ethnography, and psychodynamics. These articles were chosen to provoke new thinking, new research, and new practice in the field of workplace spirituality, with the goal of helping the field mature in the next decade.
