Book Synopsis The Evidence for the Top Quark by : Kent W. Staley
Download or read book The Evidence for the Top Quark written by Kent W. Staley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-04-05 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Evidence for the Top Quark offers both a historical and philosophical perspective on an important recent discovery in particle physics: the first evidence for the elementary particle known as the top quark. Drawing on published reports, oral histories, and internal documents from the large collaboration that performed the experiment, Kent Staley explores in detail the controversies and politics that surrounded this major scientific result. At the same time the book seeks to defend an objective theory of scientific evidence based on error probabilities.

Book Synopsis Search for Flavor-Changing Neutral Current Top Quark Decays t → Hq, with H → bb̅ , in pp Collisions at √s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector by : Shota Tsiskaridze
Download or read book Search for Flavor-Changing Neutral Current Top Quark Decays t → Hq, with H → bb̅ , in pp Collisions at √s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector written by Shota Tsiskaridze and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-02 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This PhD thesis focuses on the search for flavor-changing neutral currents in the decay of a top quark to an up-type quark (q = u, c) and the Standard Model Higgs boson, where the Higgs boson decays to bb. Further, the thesis presents the combination of this search for top quark pair events with other ATLAS searches – in the course of which the most restrictive bounds to date on tqH interactions were obtained. Following on from the discovery of the Higgs boson, it is particularly important to measure the Yukawa couplings of the Standard Model fermions; these parameters may provide crucial insights to help solve the flavor puzzle and may help reveal the presence of new physics before it is directly observed in experiments.

Book Synopsis Recent Advances In The Superworld - Proceedings Of The International Workshop by : J L Lopez

This book was released on 1994-03-29 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The realization that precision LEP data lend support to the idea of supersymmetric grand unification and supersymmetry in general, led to the organization of the First HARC International Workshop on Recent Advances in the SuperWorld. The idea was to have a workshop that discussed all aspects of the supersymmetric world — the SuperWorld as it should be properly known. These aspects are so diverse that they are usually studied by high energy physicists with vastly different interests. The selection of speakers included the whole spectrum in 'energy', from experimental physicists, to specialists in low energy phenomenology, supersymmetric grand unification, supergravity, superstrings and supercosmology.

Book excerpt: A Practical Guide to Space-Time Engineering: Particle physics is a rapidly expanding and highly dynamic sphere of knowledge supporting a landscape of constantly changing hues. Experimental boundaries are being shifted with exciting reductions in uncertainty at a staggering pace. This text develops the Electro-Gravi-Magnetic (EGM) construct to define relationships between the distributions of mass-energy over space-time of fundamental particles. The correlation of EGM calculations for mass & "size" to experimental evidence is astonishing, to at least four orders of magnitude greater that can be physically measured. Most of the contents herein have been peer reviewed & published in scientific literature. For particle enthusiasts, this text is a must.

Book excerpt: We utilise principles of mass-energy distribution and similitude by ZPF equilibria to derive the values of the present Hubble constant "H0" and CMBR temperature "T0". It is demonstrated that a mathematical relationship exists between the Hubble constant and CMBR temperature such that "T0" is derived from "H0". The values derived are "67.0843(km/s/Mpc)" and "2.7248(K)" respectively. We also derive improved estimates for the solar distance from the Galactic centre "Ro" and total Galactic mass "MG" as being "8.1072(kpc)" and "6.3142 x10^11(solar-masses)" respectively. The construct herein implies that the observed "accelerated expansion" of the Universe is attributable to the determination of the ZPF energy density threshold "U_ZPF" being "

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The high energy electron-positron linear collider is expected to provide crucial clues to many of the fundamental questions of our time: What is the nature of electroweak symmetry breaking? Does a Standard Model Higgs boson exist, or does nature take the route of supersymmetry, technicolor or extra dimensions, or none of the foregoing? This invaluable book is a collection of articles written by experts on many of the most important topics which the linear collider will focus on. It is aimed primarily at graduate students but will undoubtedly be useful also to any active researcher on the physics of the next generation linear collider.

Book Synopsis Anomaly! Collider Physics And The Quest For New Phenomena At Fermilab by : Tommaso Dorigo
Download or read book Anomaly! Collider Physics And The Quest For New Phenomena At Fermilab written by Tommaso Dorigo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Dorigo provides an engaging and insightful perspective on the pursuit of physics discoveries at CDF … Dorigo’s book is thus almost certainly going to be an important source for anyone interested in the history of CDF … It is a personal yet highly informative story of discovery and almost-discovery from the perspective of someone who saw the events firsthand.'Physics TodayFrom the mid-1980s, an international collaboration of 600 physicists embarked on the investigation of subnuclear physics at the high-energy frontier. As well as discovering the top quark, the heaviest elementary particle ever observed, the physicists analyzed their data to seek signals of new physics which could revolutionize our understanding of nature.Anomaly! tells the story of that quest, and focuses specifically on the finding of several unexplained effects which were unearthed in the process. These anomalies proved highly controversial within the large team: to some collaborators they called for immediate publication, while to others their divulgation threatened to jeopardize the reputation of the experiment.Written in a confidential, narrative style, this book looks at the sociology of a large scientific collaboration, providing insight in the relationships between top physicists at the turn of the millennium. The stories offer an insider's view of the life cycle of the 'failed' discoveries that unavoidably accompany even the greatest endeavors in modern particle physics.
