Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Reading Architects' Blueprints, Vol. 1 of 3 1. Definition of a Drawing. - A drawing is a series of lines, marks, symbols, letters, and figures, made on paper or cloth for the purpose of showing the design, arrangement of parts, and size of a building or any object. In the case of a building, several drawings are required to represent it completely. 2. Definition of a Blueprint. - A blueprint is a print made upon sensitized paper from a drawing that has been made on transparent paper or cloth. A sheet of paper coated with a substance sensitive to light is placed against the paper or cloth upon which the drawing has been made, in a suitable frame under a sheet of glass. Sunlight or strong artificial light is then allowed to act upon the sensitized paper through the drawing. When the sensitized paper has been exposed for a sufficient time, it is removed from the frame and thoroughly washed in clear water. The parts covered by the opaque lines of the drawing become white, and the remaining parts become blue. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
