Book excerpt: When ancient artifacts discovered in the Great Pyramid of Giza shed new light on a DNA pattern identified by a world-renowned molecular biologist, venture capitalist, James Anderson, is thrust into an action-packed road of scientific exploration and discovery. An unlikely participant in the events that begin to unfold, Anderson and his team, pursued by those who don’t want this new information out, realize they have stumbled upon the greatest and most terrifying cover-up in the history of the human race. Occam’s Razor is a chilling speculative fiction thriller which ties together several well-known, and some not so famous controversial theories concerning alien visitation, human evolution, ancient legends, and the cosmos. The novel explains how it could be very plausible to imagine that the powers that be may already know about an impending disaster and caught between all this are the novel’s unfortunate characters as they struggle to figure out what to do in the face of unstoppable catastrophe.

Book excerpt: Sharply funny and compulsively readable, The Gilded Razor is a “powerful addition to the literature of active addiction and recovery” (New York Times bestselling author Bill Clegg) from Sam Lansky. The Gilded Razor is the true story of a double life that New York Times bestselling author George Hodgman called “virtuosic.” By the age of seventeen, Sam Lansky was an all-star student with Ivy League aspirations in his final year at an elite New York City prep school. But a nasty addiction to prescription pills spiraled rapidly out of control, compounded by a string of reckless affairs with older men, leaving his bright future in jeopardy. After a terrifying overdose, he tried to straighten out. Yet as he journeyed from the glittering streets of Manhattan, to a wilderness boot camp in Utah, to a psych ward in New Orleans, he only found more opportunities to create chaos—until finally, he began to face himself. In the vein of Elizabeth Wurtzel and Augusten Burroughs, Lansky scrapes away at his own life as a young addict and exposes profoundly universal anxieties. Told with remarkable sensitivity, biting humor, and unrelenting self-awareness, The Gilded Razor is a coming-of-age story of searing honesty and lyricism and “one of the best portraits about the implacable power of addiction” (Susan Cheever, bestselling author of Drinking in America).

They wanted to bring Earth into the Alliance of Star Systems, but there was such violent panic worldwide that the Trivators were forced to take control. The attempt to bring order is not going well. Razor is a High Chancellor for the Alliance who has been sent to finally bring order to Earth – by any means necessary. Chicago, a city torn apart by two factions, is an extremely important target to quell the chaos, and it is there that a female warrior saves his life and disappears. Kali has devoted her life to her brother’s cause. After all, Destin is the only one has Chicago’s best interests at heart. Colbert just wants power, and he certainly has become a powerful enemy. It wasn’t always that way. Once he was someone they trusted above all others, but that time is past, and now Kali will do whatever it takes to bring peace to their people, even if that means battling giant alien warriors who stuck their noses into Earth’s business six years ago and never left. One night though, Kali sees someone who will die if she doesn’t act, and then discovers mid-rescue that he’s a Trivator! Razor has never failed a mission, and his reputation of ruthlessness is well earned, but for the first time in his life, he finds himself torn between duty and something he is unfamiliar with—his heart. A NY Times and USA Today bestselling author, the internationally acclaimed S.E. Smith presents a new story with her signature humor and unpredictable twists! Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Unwillingly, I’ve become part of the story. Questions lie when reconstructing incomplete facts, half-truths, enigmas. What remains is incompletion, interruption. Only the dead know what happened.’ In The Razor’s Edge, Karl Jirgens presents a collection of interlinked fictions that inhabit halfway worlds between past and present, dream and actuality, science and divination. Ordinary daily activities and events lead to unexpected slides into lucid dreams and flirtations with the edge of madness. Drawing on literature and pop culture (from Cinderella and Hamlet to Vladimir Mayakovsky and Anthony Bourdain) as well as the history of twentieth-century genocides (including the Holocaust and the Gulag), these complex, magic realist stories suggest that what seems separate is really interconnected, that the distinction between past, present and future is illusion, and that we might all die of the truth if the truth were truly known.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dive into this fun and quirky Urban Fantasy novel that draws from Asian mythology! If I tell you that I have magic, you’re probably going to expect all kinds of fancy things, like fire balls or maybe some kind of badass demon slaying assassin. Yeah, that’s not me. I’m a barber to the supernatural because my magic is too weak and weird to do anything else. So why have the fae asked me to look after one of their eggs—the most precious thing in the world to a fae—when I’m so vastly under qualified? Either they’ve taken leave of their senses, or they’re seriously desperate. And if the fae are desperate, that means that with my weak magic, I’m utterly out of my depth. Oh, and my backup is a sarcastic cat, which doesn’t come in handy when I find myself facing off against a very old, very powerful magical creature who’s after the egg. The damn cat scampers off and I’m left with nothing more than my piddly magic and my wits to get myself out of this mess. That’s the thing about the magical underworld of Panong—it might be dangerous and complicated, but at least it’s never dull. The Razor’s Edge Chronicles is an Asian Urban Fantasy series drawing inspiration from various Asian myths and featuring all kind of amazing new magical creatures, totally different from anything you’ve encountered so far. Dive into the Razor’s Edge Chronicles’ magical world today! Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historians have mainly seen the ghettos established by the Nazis in German-occupied Eastern Europe as spaces marked by brutality, tyranny, and the systematic murder of the Jewish population. Drawing on examples from the Warsaw, Lodz, and Vilna ghettos, Dance on the Razor’s Edge explores how, in fact, highly improvised legal spheres emerged in these coerced and heterogeneous ghetto communities. Looking at sources from multiple archives and countries, Svenja Bethke investigates how the Jewish Councils, set up on German orders and composed of ghetto inhabitants, formulated new definitions of criminal offenses and established legal institutions on their own initiative, as a desperate attempt to ensure the survival of the ghetto communities. Bethke explores how people under these circumstances tried to make sense of everyday lives that had been turned upside down, bringing with them pre-war notions of justice and morality, and she considers the extent to which this rupture led to new judgments on human behaviour. In doing so, Bethke aims to understand how people attempted to use their very limited scope for action in order to survive. Set against the background of a Holocaust historiography that often still seeks for clear categories of "good" and "bad" behaviours, Dance on the Razor’s Edge calls for a new understanding of the ghettos as complex communities in an unprecedented emergency situation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Follow the legendary adventures of two of the Wild West’s most notorious outlaws in this historical biography. Like their partners in crime Frank and Jesse James, the Younger Brothers have been glorified in the lore of the Wild West. Famous for their daring train and bank robberies, and immortalized in the film The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid, the Younger brothers—Cole, James, John, and Bob—came to symbolize the grit and cunning of the nineteenth century frontier. Ride the Razor’s Edge chronicles their adventures while placing them in their wider historical context. From fighting in the Civil War alongside William Quantrill and his band of guerrillas to their famous raid in Lawrence, Kansas, to their first bank robbery in Liberty, Missouri, the Youngers became heroes of the people—and foes of their state. Using family archives, personal letters, and interviews with surviving family, author Carl W. Breihan presents an authoritative and captivating story from their days with the Confederacy to Cole’s and James’s years in a Minnesota prison, and Cole Younger's fight to adapt to life after his pardon.
