Book Synopsis Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks by : Elizabeth M. Belding-Royer
Download or read book Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks written by Elizabeth M. Belding-Royer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-08-17 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs) has attracted great research interest in recent years. A Mobile Ad Hoc Network is a self-organizing multi-hop wireless network where all hosts (often called nodes) participate in the routing and data forwarding process. The dependence on nodes to relay data packets for others makes mobile ad hoc networks extremely susceptible to various malicious and selfish behaviors. This point is largely overlooked during the early stage of MANET research. Many works simply assume nodes are inherently cooperative and benign. However, experiences from the wired world manifest that the reverse is usually true; and many works [3] [10] [9] [8] [12] [19] have pointed out that the impact of malicious and selfish users must be carefully investigated. The goal of this research is to address the cooperation problem and related security issues in wireless ad hoc networks. As a rule of thumb, it is more desirable to include security mechanisms in the design phase rather than continually patching the system for security breaches. As pointed out in [2] [1], there can be both selfish and malicious nodes in a mobile ad hoc network. Selfish nodes are most concerned about their energy consumption and intentionally drop packets to save power. The purpose of malicious nodes, on the other hand, is to attack the network using various intrusive techniques. In general, nodes in an ad hoc network can exhibit Byzantine behaviors.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of universal connectivity has led to the concept of ad hoc networks. Ad hoc networks are self-configuring, self-organizing networks that are formed on the fly. This book studies the performance of a dynamic, self-adaptive routing paradigm known as 'ant routing'; analyzing the behavior of searching and how it performs on graph topologies.
Book Synopsis Mobile Ad Hoc Networks by : G Ram Mohana Reddy
Download or read book Mobile Ad Hoc Networks written by G Ram Mohana Reddy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a lot of work has been done in an effort to incorporate Swarm Intelligence (SI) techniques in building an adaptive routing protocol for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). Since centralized approach for routing in MANETs generally lacks in scalability and fault-tolerance, SI techniques provide a natural solution through a distributed approach for the adaptive routing for MANETs. In SI techniques, the captivating features of insects or mammals are correlated with the real world problems to find solutions. Recently, several applications of bio-inspired and nature-inspired algorithms in telecommunications and computer networks have achieved remarkable success. The main aims/objectives of this book, "Mobile Ad Hoc Networks: Bio-Inspired Quality of Service Aware Routing Protocols", are twofold; firstly it clearly distinguishes between principles of traditional routing protocols and SI based routing protocols, while explaining in detail the analogy between MANETs and SI principles. Secondly, it presents the readers with important Quality of Service (QoS) parameters and explains how SI based routing protocols achieves QoS demands of the applications. This book also gives quantitative and qualitative analysis of some of the SI based routing protocols for MANETs.
