Book excerpt: "THE AFTERMATH" to Rampage 1982 highlights the investigation of the retribution murders of three of the convicted 1982 felons who had served their thirty years of incarceration and were released in 2012. On Memorial Day, 2013 their mutilated bodies were discovered artfully nailed to three Oak trees in the parking lot of what is now, the Old Westbury Diner, the very site of their long forgotten carnage, deliberately, on the thirty first anniversary of that barbaric 1982 night. Driven by duty and ego, Detective Lieutenant Patricia McAvoy uses all of the assets and experience of her Homicide Squad South veterans to solve this macabre triple murder. She zeros in on the most damaged victims of the 1982 mayhem who were either robbed, raped, sodomized, shot, seriously assaulted or mentally affected. Disregarding a lack of public sympathy for the murdered trio, she relentlessly builds the case against her leading suspects and ultimately prompts the Nassau County District Attorney to indict the "sadistic six" she is convinced are guilty of the murders. As the investigation proceeds, salient facts are unearthed that ensure the murder trial is not a "slam dunk." Corkscrew twists and turns abundantly abound, leading to a bizarre finale which begs the question as to who really were the avengers of the 1982 savage crime spree?

Corkscrew twists and turns abundantly abound, leading to a bizarre finale which begs the question as to who really were the avengers of the 1982 savage crime spree? ABOUT THE AUTHORS B. D. Renard, ( a pseudonym) a native New Yorker, Army veteran, and retired businessman, has a personal and emotional interest in the story, as his daughter, home from college, began her first night as the hostess in what was then the Sea Crest Diner on that fateful evening in May of 1982. Fortunately, she was not one of the physically abused, but like all victims, had the trauma indelibly branded into her psyche. A widower, Renard currently resides in Long Beach NY. The "AFTERMATH" is his sixth writing endeavor. J.F. Nolan is also a native New Yorker. Following service in the US Marine Corps, he served in the Nassau County, NY, Police Department for twenty-four years, with fourteen years as a supervisor in the Detective Division. Nolan completed his last nine years in the Homicide Squad. Promoted to Lieutenant of Detectives, Nolan became the Homicide Squad Commander where he oversaw several hundred murder investigations. He also resides on Long Island with his wife, Gundie. The Rampage Sequel is his 6th novel. Together, the co-authors have produced a novel, based on the true story, but significantly fictionalized, to allow the reader to experience the driving needs of six victims of that night to wreak vengeance on the perpetrators. Epilogue Collaborating for the third time, the co-authors have produced a novel, based on a true story...the 1982 Rampage by five predators who were finally brought to justice. In "THE AFTERMATH...2013-2015," employing their fictional character, ADA Eugene Dempsey, they put forth their case for updating the legal meaning of JUSTIFIABLE HOMICIDE.

Book excerpt: Rampage 1982 is rooted in the true story of Long Island's most infamous crime spree. On Friday night, Memorial Day weekend 1982, five Brooklyn thugs, called the Belmont Avenue Boys, went to "get paid" on Long Island or as they called it, Babylonia, the biblical land of milk and honey. Their credo - if you want something, just take it - was demonstrated by the night's work of random shootings, rapes, sodomies, pistol whippings, robberies, and terrorism by forcing diner patrons to "undress and have sex with the person next to you." In an ultimate act of vulgarity, the Boys then urinated on several of the victims. Following their arrests and sentences of 3,000 years in prison, the outraged public learned of a defect in NY State law trimming the sentences to thirty years. True crime merges with fiction......As news of the Boys release circulates thirty years later, in 2012, a product of one of the rapes discovers the truth of his conception, and vows to avenge his mother's degradation. Concocting a plan to snuff out the lives of the Boys, including his rapacious father, he recruits several victims of that night of horror, and he lures the Boys to a secluded warehouse, where appropriate justice is finally served. ABOUT THE AUTHORS J. F. Nolan is a native New Yorker, Following enlistment in the US Marine Corps, he served in the Nassau County, NY, Police Department for twenty-four years, with fourteen years as a supervisor in the Detective Division. Nolan completed his last nine years in the Homicide Squad. Promoted to Lieutenant of Detectives, Nolan became the Homicide Commander where he oversaw management of several hundred murder investigations. He resides on Long Island with his wife, Gundie. Rampage 1982 is his third novel. B.D.. Renard, also a native New Yorker, Army veteran, and retired businessman, has a personal and emotional interest in the story, as his daughter, home from college, began her first night as the hostess in the Seacrest Diner on that fateful evening back in May of 1982. Fortunately, she was not one of the physically abused, but like all of the other victims of that evening, had the trauma indelibly branded into her psyche. A recent widower, Renard, too, currently resides on Long Island. Together, the co-authors have produced a novel, based on the true story, but significantly fictionalized, to allow the reader to experience the driving needs of six victims of that night to wreak vengeance on the perpetrators.

Book excerpt: Detective Sergeant Patricia (Patti Mac) McAvoy’s career was turned upside down when an undocumented Mexican teen-aged boy was found strangled, floating in a 55 gallon drum in South Oyster Bay, Long Island. Inspection revealed he was carrying rosary beads and wearing a diaper. Simultaneously, McAvoy was transferred to Nassau County, NY, Homicide Squad South as a public relations ploy. Following a hostile reception from woman hating Detective Captain Peter J. Brennan, Patti was handed a cold case squad and exiled to an attic stacked floor to ceiling with cold cases. Brennan saddled Patti with four detectives, culled from his bad boy list, turning her assignment into a set up for failure. Outwitting Brennan by using guile and ingenuity, Patti led her team to a daring manslaughter arrest. Taking note of Patti’s leadership, a detective confided about his case of a murdered boy in a floating barrel, inexplicably removed from the active murder list and placed in the dead file as a special investigation. Patti attempted to re-open the case and ran into the infamous police “Blue Wall of Silence.” Patti browbeat Brennan into releasing the case. Breaching the “Wall,” cold case squad yielded two “persons of interest,” a prosperous attorney and a Roman Catholic Monsignor who was the Police Commissioner’s twin brother. Patti discovered the meaning of the ‘loneliness of command’ as she descended into the squalid world of sexism, racism, corruption and worst of all, pedophilia. The gruesome trail took her to the pillars of society. Patti found herself in the crosshairs of vile violent men, who would love to put a bullet between her eyes. The investigation exposed a massive political cover-up leading to the top of the food chain and ripped open a sleepy suburban county with the arrests of a powerful figure and Brennan.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Crisis of School Violence is the only interdisciplinary book about school violence. It presents a broad and in-depth approach to the key questions about why bullying continues at an unprecedentedly high rate and why rampage school shootings continue to shock the nation. Based on extensive research, The Crisis of School Violence investigates human nature and its relation to aggressive behavior, with a special focus on the culture of violence that predicates school violence (including rampage shootings) and perpetuates industries that profit from violence. Marianna King presents the considerable psychological and neuroscientific research that investigates the effects of violent entertainment media on the brain and, subsequently, on behavior, which clearly reveals a causal connection between exposure to violent electronic entertainment media—especially violent video games—and increased aggressive and violent behavior. The book also reveals a more specific connection between exposure to violent video games and rampage school shootings. Ultimately this volume is a call to action that includes recommendations for parents, teachers, decision makers, and citizens alike.
