Book Synopsis High Levels of Natural Radiation and Radon Areas by : Tsutomu Sugahara
Download or read book High Levels of Natural Radiation and Radon Areas written by Tsutomu Sugahara and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever more attention has been focused on naturally occurring radiation, thanks to the shift of public concern and scientific interest from high to low-level radiation in recent years. There are many places in the world that are known to have high levels of terrestrial background gamma radiation as well as highly concentrated radon and their decay products in the air, soil and drinking water. Various scientific investigations have been conducted in those areas to collect information on radiation doses and their health effects, contributing greatly to advancing our knowledge. In recent years, technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive material (TENORM) has also attracted attention. The 6th International Conference on High Levels of Natural Radiation and Radon Areas was held in Osaka, Japan from September 6-10, 2004, for the purpose of exchanging information and experience regarding investigations in this field. These proceedings contain more than 100 papers presented at the meeting, which aimed to discuss the following major topics: 1) risk assessment, radiation protection, environmental transfer pathways and ecological impacts related to natural radiation and TENORM; 2) dosimetry of natural-radiation, including radon, thoron, and cosmic rays, and its technological aspects, e.g., individual dosimetry and retrospective measurements; and 3) in vitro and in vivo biological studies of low-level radiation, including molecular mechanisms. Book Synopsis The Environmental Behaviour of Polonium by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book The Environmental Behaviour of Polonium written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polonium-210 is an alpha emitting radionuclide with no radioactive progeny and produces only very-low-intensity gamma rays at very low abundance. This means doses largely arise from internal exposure. In addition to the relatively high ingestion does coefficient of 210Po, radionuclide transfer in the environment results in high activity concentrations in certain foods. This publication focuses on radionuclide transfers in terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments, and provides information on key transfer processes, concepts and models--back cover.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents a discussion of algebraic operations on the points in the plane and rigid motions in the Euclidean plane. This work introduces the notions of a transformation group and of an abstract group. It gives an elementary exposition of the basic ideas of Sophus Lie about symmetries of differential equations.
Book Synopsis Radon and Its Decay Products in Indoor Air by : William W. Nazaroff
Download or read book Radon and Its Decay Products in Indoor Air written by William W. Nazaroff and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1988-02-08 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the perception of indoor radon as a relatively minor health issue has been radically altered: observations in Sweden, Canada, and the U.S. have revealed the high incidence of elevated radon levels in ordinary houses and the extreme hazard of inhaling radon decay products. These findings have lead to a wide range of activities and intensive research aimed at limiting human exposure to radon. This is one of the few books to provide a comprehensive, insightful analysis of the radon problem. Papers reflecting the most current research critically review all major aspects of this issue, each providing sufficient detail to be accessible to those who are technically trained but lack prior direct experience. Coverage includes the generation and migration of radon in source material, the physical and chemical behavior of radon, current evidence on the health effects and risk of exposure, and the strategic and tactical aspects of controlling exposures.

Book Synopsis Sources, Effects and Risks of Ionizing Radiation, United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) 2016 Report by : United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR)
Download or read book Sources, Effects and Risks of Ionizing Radiation, United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) 2016 Report written by United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) and published by United Nations. This book was released on 2017-04-25 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report assesses the levels and effects of exposure to ionizing radiation. Scientific findings underpin radiation risk evaluation and international protection standards. This report comprises a report with two underpinning scientific annexes. The first annex recapitulates and clarifies the philosophy of science as well as the scientific knowledge for attributing observed health effects in individuals and populations to radiation exposure, and distinguishes between that and inferring risk to individuals and populations from an exposure. The second annex reviews the latest thinking and approaches to quantifying the uncertainties in assessments of risk from radiation exposure, and illustrates these approaches with application to examples that are highly pertinent to radiation protection.

Book Synopsis Early Child Development by : Verónica Schiariti
Download or read book Early Child Development written by Verónica Schiariti and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2021-09-13 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early years of life, the environments that interact with a child-including families, schools, and communities-play a key role in the child's brain development. Early child development and overall children's developmental trajectories have long-term implications for health, happiness, and earning potential as these children become adults. Importantly, failing to reach developmental potential contributes to global cycles of poverty, inequality, and social exclusion. There is little public understanding of the importance of a child's first years and the critical developmental opportunity to reach optimal functioning. As such, global data on early child developments are crucial to inform the public and demand evidence-based policies and high-quality programs for children around the world. This book includes initiatives assessing the impact of programs and interventions related to children's health, education, and participation that inform evidence-based policies worldwide. Importantly, this book raises global awareness of the importance of children's first years of life and the crucial role of child-environment interactions where the child lives, plays, and grows. The culturally diverse content comprises international representation of studies and classifications tools. International experts contributed high-quality reviews that collate valuable information and guide the adoption of a rights-based approach in early child development globally.
