Fairbanks in BLACK MERCURY, an experiment in spontaneity of image/word association. To create Black Mercury, Eric C. Harrison sent one or two raw illustrations to Trevor R. Fairbanks by email. As Trevor received the illustrations, one or two at a time, he looked into each one for inspiration. He allowed each image point his mind and guide his words and created a page of text for each. Black Mercury became an entity of its own creation by putting both artist and writer in a position of not knowing what to expect. The story became its own thing and though their hands were involved - it was out of the control of artist and writer to anticipate the final outcome.

Download or read book The Elusive written by Nicholas Frost and published by BookPOD. This book was released on 2023-04-27 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Adventures of Sally Bang charts an unruly anti-heroine’s coming of age, and a ghost writer’s need to possess her. At sixteen there’s insight and beauty that never come again, and within every adult is a wish to get it back. What is gained and lost with growing up, and whose story is it anyway? Commitment ensnares a standoffish narrator in relationship dilemmas, in a psychologic navel-gaze in cliffhanger style on the elusive as romance, the tango of intimacy and distance, conformism and the irrational. In Search of Francesca Mars exposes an artist’s vision of a self-immolating media star who tilts at strange liberation, who toys with all who need to put her on a pedestal or drag her down. A close-skinned portrayal of ambition and use, the politics of giving, glamour and ugliness, the artifice of art, the problem of value. Innocence asks, who doesn’t want innocence, no matter how obtuse the path? Dancer Libby Castro submits to demanding and needy people: husband, employer, spiritual mentor, analyst. Yet beyond insouciant roles and lazy vacancies she’ll be no-one’s shadow: a straw, a girl unmarked, woman alone…

Like a poem, a pattern, and a people whose world was swallowed by the sea, How To Talk To Girls at Parties is three things at once.” — Kelly Sue DeConnick “Had sneak peek at How to Talk to Girls at Parties. What boys fear! That girls are very smart aliens who will do frightful things to you in The Upper Room! Teenage angst. Lovely drawing/painting.” —From a Tweet by Margaret Atwood “A haunting ode to the lyric of girls, who for our protagonists represent a vast, uncharted universe. An extraordinary comic from three extraordinary creators.”—Marjorie Liu “Gentle, strange, and full of perfectly good advice (‘You just have to talk to them!’), How to Talk to Girls at Parties is wise and odd. Neil Gaiman’s writing is sweetly complemented by Fábio Moon & Gabriel Bá’s art. It’s a quirky delight.”—Audrey Niffenegger
