Download or read book Quiet Talks on Following the Christ written by Samuel Dickey Gordon and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2007-03-01 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this small volume by S. D. Gordon from his "Quiet Talks" series, the power and purpose of Jesus' appearance on Earth are discussed in a friendly, intimate manner. Not a scholarly writer trying to make his mark on the history of Biblical interpretation, Gordon speaks to Christian "common folk," as he calls them, who may not be priests but still wish to deeply understand the nature of God and the revelation of Jesus. In Following the Christ he explores the draw that Jesus had on all people: the promise that they would find comfort in his presence. American lay preacher SAMUEL DICKEY GORDON (1859-1936) was a devotional speaker in high demand throughout the early 1900s, as well as a prolific author of inspirational works. His "Quiet Talks" series includes Quiet Talks on Power and Quiet Talks About Jesus.
Download or read book Jesus Manifesto written by Leonard Sweet and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2010-05-30 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus Manifesto presents a fresh unveiling of Jesus, seeking to restore the supremacy and sovereignty of Christ in a world—and a church—that has lost sight of Him. Christians have made the gospel about so many things—things other than Christ. Religious concepts, ideas, doctrines, strategies, and methods that begin to eclipse the beauty, the glory, and the reality of the Lord Jesus Himself. We know a lot about our Lord, but we don't know Him very well. We know a lot about trying to be like Jesus, but very little about living by His indwelling life. Jesus Manifesto provides clarity on the most important points of our faith. It is a prophetic call to restore the supremacy and sovereignty of Christ in a world and church that has lost sight of Him. This manifesto emphasizes ten crucial areas of restoring the supremacy of Jesus Christ, noting: Christians don’t follow Christianity; they follow Christ Christians don't proclaim themselves; they proclaim Christ Christians don’t point people to core values; they point people to the Cross Christians don't preach about Christ; they preach Christ Read this book to see your Lord like you've never seen Him before and restore the sovereignty of Jesus in your life.

Book Synopsis Our Lord Prays for His Own: Thoughts on John 17 by : Marcus Rainsford
Download or read book Our Lord Prays for His Own: Thoughts on John 17 written by Marcus Rainsford and published by Ravenio Books. This book was released on 2014-05-13 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS chapter is emphatically the Lord’s prayer. That which we commonly call the Lord’s prayer He taught His disciples, but did not use Himself. The petition, “Forgive us our trespasses,” could never have been uttered by the Lord Jesus Christ. This prayer, on the other hand, is His own—His disciples were not invited to unite in it; it was a prayer they did not and could not utter. Evidently the Lord spake so as to be heard, and the disciples listened. The Holy Ghost has provided that not one petition should be lost to the church of God. We often find our Lord teaching His disciples to pray, and we read of Him spending even whole nights in prayer; but we never find Him praying with His disciples. Indeed, there would seem to be something incongruous in Christ kneeling down with His disciples for prayer; there must always have been something peculiar in His petitions. At this time His work on earth was well-nigh ended: nothing remained for Him but to die: “I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do.” (v. 4.) The Last Supper was over. The Lord had dispensed to His disciples the broken bread and poured-out wine, memorials of His dying love; He had expressed to them His desire, that in remembrance of Him, they should often gather together and thus show forth His death in this illustration and their union with Himself and with each other, until His return to them in glory. He had washed their feet; He had comforted them; He had opened His whole heart to them. He now opens it for them to Him before whom “all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid;” and having poured out His soul into the ear, and into the bosom of God, He went forth into Gethsemane. May God the Spirit be with us and give unction and understanding to our hearts, while we meditate on His most precious prayer.
Download or read book Quiet written by A. J. Sherrill and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-03-11 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within a world of incessant noise and chaos, Quiet is an invitation to seek God in stillness, silence and contemplation. Each chapter concludes with a contemplative practice for the reader. It is a helpful read for both individuals and small groups. Chronicling the author's personal journey, AJ Sherrill reveals how contemplative prayer practices compliment other forms of prayer prevalent in the Church such as intercessory, prophetic, and abiding prayer. If you find yourself longing for greater awareness, intimacy and peace with God, this resource aims to open more possibilities through prayer than many previously believe are available. It is a particular helpful guide for those who find themselves in urban and suburban contexts, where the decibel level of life has never been louder. Not only is this book relevant today, but also captures the thoughts and practices of many saints of times past. Quiet has been endorsed by Father Richard Rohr (Author and Franciscan Monk), Jon Tyson (Author and Lead Pastor of Trinity Grace Church in Manhattan) and Skye Jethani (Author and Editor at Christianity Today).
