La premiere etude concerne les effets d'alignement lors du transfert avec changement de spin (4s5p #1p4s5p #3p) dans l'atome ca par collision avec un atome he. Ces effets ont ete mis en evidence recemment dans des experiences de jets croises mettant en jeu deux lasers polarises rectilignement, l'un pour aligner initialement l'atome dans l'etat #1p l'autre pour sonder l'alignement final dans l'etat #3p. Tous les effets d'alignement peuvent etre caracterises par un jeu de sections efficaces exprimees dans un referentiel fixe de l'espace, le referentiel de collision. Par une approche quantique independante du temps, nous avons determine les sections efficaces de transfert dans le referentiel de collison pour trois jeux de potentiels des etats electroniques du systeme ca-he. Les resultats sont compares aux resultats experimentaux. La deuxieme etude est consacree a la dynamique de la dissociation de hc1 apres la photoexcitation de la molecule dans l'etat electronique repulsif a#1ii. La photodissociation de la molecule laisse les fragments dans leur etat electronique le plus bas en energie h(#2s) et c1(#2p). Notre etude est basee sur la theorie independante du temps de la photodissociation de molecules diatomiques. Nous avons determine la section efficace totale de photodissociation et les sections efficaces partielles de production de l'atome c1 dans l'une ou l'autre des deux composantes de structure fine (#2p#1#/#2 et #2p#3#/#2). Pour interpreter nos resultats et pour comprendre les mecanismes susceptibles d'affecter les populations dans les deux composantes #2p#1#/#2 et #2p#3#/#2 nous presentons, d'une part un calcul de redistribution du flux quantique dans les etats adiabatiques en fonction de la distance entre les deux atomes et d'autre part la determination, dans une approche semi-classique de l'evolution temporelle des probabilites de transition dans la base des etats adiabatiques.

Le calcul et la mesure d'une section efficace permettent de connaitre en détail la dynamique d'un processus et, en même temps, d'analyser les forces qui interviennent, et donc de tester une théorie physique. Ce mémoire d'HDR porte sur les travaux que j'ai mené pendant les dernières années, dédiés à la dynamique quantique moléculaire ab initio. Ces travaux sont concentrés sur les études théoriques des processus élémentaires pour les collisions réactives à impact électronique impliquant des molécules et des ions excités vibrationnellement et rotationellement, résolus sur les états moleculaires internes. En particulier, mon travail consiste dans le calcul des sections efficaces et des coefficients de vitesse correspondant à l'excitation vibrationnelle, l'attachement dissociatif électronique, la recombinaison dissociative et l'excitation dissociative. Les résultats ont été obtenus en utilisant les codes de chimie quantique ab initio MOLPRO et UK-R-Matrix, dans les approches théoriques du modèle du potentiel complexe local, l'approximation nucléaire adiabatique et la théorie du défaut quantique. Ces résultats représentent les données d'entre pour la construction des modèles cinétiques collisionnels-radiatifs pour les plasmas moléculaires froids, "hors-équilibre", où les dégrés internes des molécules, et souvent même les électrons, ne suivent pas la distribution de Maxwell-Boltzmann et il est, donc, indispensable d'étudier les propriétés thermodynamiques dans une approche dit "état-par-état". Les applications de ces modèles sont très vastes : ils vont de l'astrochimie - la modélisation du milieu interstellaire et la formation des proto-étoiles - à l'ingénierie aérospatiale - la modélisation des flux hypersoniques et de l'onde de choc qui arrivent à la rentrée des navettes aérospatiales dans les atmosphères planétaires - et à l'énergétique - la modélisation du plasma dans les réacteurs à fusion magnétique contrôlée ou les procédés de combustion assistés par les plasmas.

His first assignment was with the University of Paris VI before he was appointed to the CNRS, the French National Research Center. His research was focused on optical pumping, statistical mechanics of quantum gases, musical acoustics and the foundations of quantum mechanics.
