Download or read book Manual of Symbols and Terminology for Physicochemical Quantities and Units written by D. H. Whiffen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manual of Symbols and Terminology for Physicochemical Quantities and Units, 1979 Edition contains physical quantity tabulations of products. The Commission on Symbols, Terminology, and Units is a part of the Division of Physical Chemistry of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. Its general responsibilities are to secure clarity and precision, and wider agreement in the use of symbols, by chemists in different countries, among physicists, chemists, and engineers, and by editors of scientific journals. This book is composed of 13 chapters, and begins with the determination of physical quantities and symbols for physical quantities, which are generally organized in a dimensional system built upon seven base quantities. The succeeding chapters deal with recommended names and symbols for quantities in chemistry and physics. These topics are followed by discussions on units and symbols for units, numbers that printed in upright type. Other chapters describe physical quantities, units, and numerical values, recommended mathematical symbols, symbols for chemical elements, nuclides, and particles. The final chapters consider the values of some fundamental constants. This book will be of value to analytical and physical chemists.

Book Synopsis Expression of Results in Quantum Chemistry by : D. H. Whiffen
Download or read book Expression of Results in Quantum Chemistry written by D. H. Whiffen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expression of Results in Quantum Chemistry recommends the appropriate insertion of physical constants in the output information of a theoretical paper in order to make the numerical end results of theoretical work easily transformed to SI units by the reader. The acceptance of this recommendation would circumvent the need for a set of atomic units each with its own symbol and name. It is the traditional use of the phrase ""atomic units"" in this area which has obscured the real problem. The four SI dimensions of length, mass, time, and current require four physical constants to be permitted. A table is included with the physical constants or mixtures of physical constants, to be normally used as a factor, to convert into SI the results of theoretical computations of a selected list of physical quantities. The first column lists these physical quantities, the second column shows their usual symbols, and the third column gives the mixture of physical constants X corresponding to each physical quantity. The descriptions of X are not unique but the value in SI is naturally unaffected by the form in which Xh is expressed. For convenience the final column of the table gives values of X to five significant figures. For higher accuracy the most recent table of physical constants should be used to re-evaluate the numbers. This monograph will be a useful resource for students, chemists, and physicists.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Solvents, Volume 1 by : George Wypych
Download or read book Handbook of Solvents, Volume 1 written by George Wypych and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-02-07 with total page 997 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 4th edition of Handbook of Solvents, Volume 1, contains the most recent findings and trends in solvent applications. It is a comprehensive survey of the science of solvents and their properties, covering all aspects of solvent behavior that are relevant to their use in chemical and related industries including agricultural and technical processes, inorganic synthesis and materials chemistry, and more. Divided into two volumes, this first volume covers high-level information on the physical chemical properties of the most relevant solvent systems. Each chapter is focused on a specific aspect of solvent properties that determine its selection, such as the effect on properties of solutes and solutions, properties of different groups of solvents, and the summary of their applications’ effect on health and the environment (given in tabulated form). Also covered is swelling of solids in solvents, solvent diffusion and drying processes, nature of the interaction of solvent and solute in solutions, acid-base interactions, the effect of solvents on spectral and other electronic properties of solutions, the effect of solvents on the rheology of the solution, aggregation of solutes, permeability, molecular structure, crystallinity, configuration, conformation of dissolved high molecular weight compounds, and the effect of solvents on chemical reactions and reactivity of dissolved substances. With insight from specialists in a broad array of different areas and written with an interdisciplinary audience in mind, this thoroughly revised 4th edition provides readers with a complete overview of all the organic solvents available for industrial applications today. The book contains numerous references to key sources of more detailed information, and together with Handbook of Solvents Volume 2: Use, Health, and Environment; Databook of Green Solvents; and Databook of Solvents, represents the most comprehensive and up-to-date information ever published on solvents. Provides key insights that will help engineers and scientists select the best solvent for the job Includes practical information and ideas on how to improve existing processes involving solvents Presents the latest advances in solvent technology and their applications
