This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises a selection of the best papers presented at the Seventh Interna tional Symposium on Applications of Laser Techniques to Fluid Mechanics held at The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, during the period of July 11 to 14,1994. The papers describe Applications to Fluid Mechanics, Applications to Combustion, Instrumentation for Velocity and Size Measurements and Instrumentation for Whole Field Velocity and demonstrate the continuing and healthy interest in the development of understanding of the methodology and implementation in terms of new instru mentation. The prime objective of this Seventh Symposium was to provide a forum for the presen tation of the most advanced research on laser techniques for flow measurements, and communicate significant results to fluid mechanics. The applications oflaser techniques to scientific and engineering fluid flow research was emphasized, but contributions to the theory and practice of laser methods were also considered where they facilitate new improved fluid mechanic research. Attention was placed on laser-Doppler anemometry, particle sizing and other methods for the measurement of velocity and scalar, such as particle image velocimetry and laser induced fluorescence. We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who participated. The assistance provided by the Advisory Committee, by assessing abstracts was highly appreciated.

This book was released on 2008-04-08 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: jThis thoroughly updated and revised text contains a selection of well-written essays based on Silvermans work on a wide range of topics, including: quantum mechanics, including atomic and nuclear physics, electromagnetism and optics, gravity, thermodynamics, and the physics of fluids. Presenting a personal odyssey in physics, Silverman investigates processes for which no visualizable mechanism can be given, or that seem to violate fundamental physical laws (but do not). The discussions use little mathematics, and anyone with a little college physics will be able to read the book with pleasure. -Engagingly written -Easily understandable by both the general reader and the seasoned physicist -Covers a diversity of subjects from "hot" topics in contemporary physics to less widely known but subtle and intriguing issues in physics -Discusses real physical systems whose behavior provokes, surprises and challenges the imagination -This second edition is newly revised and updated
Book Synopsis Effects of Streamline Curvature on Turbulent Flow by : Peter Bradshaw
Download or read book Effects of Streamline Curvature on Turbulent Flow written by Peter Bradshaw and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Streamline curvature in the plane of the mean shear produces large changes in the turbulence structure of shear layers, usually an order of magnitude more important than normal pressure gradients and other terms in the mean-motion equations for curved flows. The effects on momentum and heat transfer in boundary layers are noticeable on typical wing sections and are very important on highly-cambered turbomachine blades: turbulence may be nearly eliminated on highly-convex surfaces, while on highly-concave surfaces momentum transfer by quasi-steady longitudinal vortices dominates the ordinary turbulence processes. The greatly enhanced mixing rates of swirling jets and the characteristic non-turbulent cores of trailing vortices are also consequences of the effects of streamline curvature on the turbulence structure. A progress report, comprises a review of current knowledge, a discussion of methods of predicting curvature effects, and a presentation of principles for the guidance of future workers.
Book Synopsis Vorticity and Vortex Dynamics by : Jie-Zhi Wu
Download or read book Vorticity and Vortex Dynamics written by Jie-Zhi Wu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-04-20 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive and intensive monograph for scientists, engineers and applied mathematicians, as well as graduate students in fluid dynamics. It starts with a brief review of fundamentals of fluid dynamics, with an innovative emphasis on the intrinsic orthogonal decomposition of fluid dynamic process, by which one naturally identifies the content and scope of vorticity and vortex dynamics. This is followed by a detailed presentation of vorticity dynamics as the basis of later development. In vortex dynamics part the book deals with the formation, motion, interaction, stability, and breakdown of various vortices. Typical vortex structures are analyzed in laminar, transitional, and turbulent flows, including stratified and rotational fluids. Physical understanding of vertical flow phenomena and mechanisms is the first priority throughout the book. To make the book self-contained, some mathematical background is briefly presented in the main text, but major prerequisites are systematically given in appendices. Material usually not seen in books on vortex dynamics is included, such as geophysical vortex dynamics, aerodynamic vortical flow diagnostics and management.
Book Synopsis Refrigeration and Air Conditioning by : ARORA, RAMESH CHANDRA
Download or read book Refrigeration and Air Conditioning written by ARORA, RAMESH CHANDRA and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2012-03-30 with total page 1104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook offers a comprehensive introduction to the theoretical principles and practical aspects of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Written by a teacher with 30 years experience, this work is intended to provide students with a deeper understanding and a firm grasp of the basic principles of this exciting subject area. This text is ideally suited for undergraduate education in mechanical engineering programmes and specialised postgraduate education in thermosciences. The text begins by reviewing, in a simple and precise manner, the physical principles of three pillars of refrigeration and air conditioning - thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics. Following an overview of the history of refrigeration, subsequent chapters provide exhaustive coverage of the principles, applications and design of several types of refrigeration systems and their associated components, such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, and expansion devices. Refrigerants are examined in a separate chapter. The second part of the book, beginning with the historical background of air conditioning, discusses the subject of psychrometrics at the heart of understanding the design and implementation of air conditioning processes and systems, which are subsequently dealt with in later chapters. It also explains the design practices for cooling and heating load calculations. Each chapter contains several worked-out examples that clarify the material discussed and illustrate the use of basic principles in engineering applications. Each chapter also ends with a set of review questions.

Download or read book The Efficiency of Industrial Processes written by M. V. Sorin and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1994 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. The subject of this book is the exergy analysis of the efficiency of processes involving energy and matter transformations. Efficiency is one of the most important criteria used in evaluating the performance of all types of processing plants; in particular those of the energy and chemical industries. The beauty of the exergetic approach to thermodynamic analysis is that it permits a universally applicable definition of efficiency and is free of contradictions in its treatment of numerous and diverse systems. The book provides the reader with the quantitative methods and calculations of efficiency considered to be applicable to different systems and their components. Methods, procedures and instructions for using the efficiency analysis in optimizing the performance of thermal, chemical and other industrial plants are also given. Numerous examples are used in the book to aid the reader in understanding the concepts of efficiency, exergy and thei
