Book Synopsis Road Traffic Congestion: A Concise Guide by : John C. Falcocchio
Download or read book Road Traffic Congestion: A Concise Guide written by John C. Falcocchio and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-13 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on road traffic congestion in cities and suburbs describes congestion problems and shows how they can be relieved. The first part (Chapters 1 - 3) shows how congestion reflects transportation technologies and settlement patterns. The second part (Chapters 4 - 13) describes the causes, characteristics, and consequences of congestion. The third part (Chapters 14 - 23) presents various relief strategies - including supply adaptation and demand mitigation - for nonrecurring and recurring congestion. The last part (Chapter 24) gives general guidelines for congestion relief and provides a general outlook for the future. The book will be useful for a wide audience - including students, practitioners and researchers in a variety of professional endeavors: traffic engineers, transportation planners, public transport specialists, city planners, public administrators, and private enterprises that depend on transportation for their activities.

Book Synopsis Capacity and Operational Effects of Midblock Left-turn Lanes by : James A. Bonneson
Download or read book Capacity and Operational Effects of Midblock Left-turn Lanes written by James A. Bonneson and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1997 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research project was to develop a methodology for evaluating alternative midblock left-turn treatments on urban and suburban arterials. The methodology had to be applicable to three common midblock left-turn treatments: the raised-curb median, the flush median with two-way left-turn lane (TWLTL) delineation, and the undivided cross section. The methodology developed for this research focuses on the evaluation of midblock street segments on urban and suburban arterials. The basis for NCHRP Report 395.

Book Synopsis Achieving Economic Growth and Welfare Through Green Consumerism by : Sinnappan, Punitha
Download or read book Achieving Economic Growth and Welfare Through Green Consumerism written by Sinnappan, Punitha and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-07-10 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the greatest global challenges is to integrate economic growth and welfare with environmental sustainability. The 12th goal under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-12) addresses this challenge by calling for sustainable consumption and production patterns. It is a holistic and responsible approach that entails the production, acquisition, consumption, and disposal of goods and services based on their pro-environmental benefits. Consumers want to act green, but they expect businesses to lead the way. As such, marketers are playing an important role in encouraging green consumerism by reinforcing sustainability in behavioral patterns. Actionable steps need to be taken to encourage sustainable consumption and align consumers’ behaviors with their stated preferences. Achieving Economic Growth and Welfare Through Green Consumerism offers a comprehensive analysis of green consumerism, taking into account the diversity of views and debates surrounding the ideology. The diversity of topics and multidisciplinary viewpoints offer an insightful overview of the nature of green consumerism, its manifestations, issues, and practices. Covering topics such as consumption behavior, green marketing tools, and purchasing behavior, this premier reference source is a pivotal resource for business leaders, business analysts, economists, marketers, students and educators of higher education, researchers, and academicians.

Book Synopsis Assessment of Travel Characteristics Required for the Development of an In-vehicle Advanced Traveler Information System by : Jennifer Harper Ogle
Download or read book Assessment of Travel Characteristics Required for the Development of an In-vehicle Advanced Traveler Information System written by Jennifer Harper Ogle and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of this research was to assess the needs and logistics associated with the development of a multi-source, multi-use travel speed database. Data were, consequently, collected and/or analyzed for ultimate use in the TransGuide Advanced Transportation Management system (ATMS) area-wide database. The travel speed data used to populate the database fall into the categories of: 1) ATMS loop detector data; 2) Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) data; 3) Global Positioning System (GPS) data via travel time runs; and 4) theoretical data. The theoretical data were the product of a statistical analysis of travel speed data and respective roadway geometric and operating characteristics associated with over 2,000 GPS-based travel time runs conducted on arterial roadways in the San Antonio urban area. A predictive algorithm was successfully developed using a tree-based regression methodology to formulate the theoretical data. These data generally apply to low-speed, low-volume arterials which experience limited recurrent congestion. Adjustment factors for incidents and varying operating conditions (e.g., rain vs. no rain, peak vs. off-peak operations, etc.) were also examined. It was, however, determined that these additional factors could not be adequately analyzed due to sample size limitation.
