Book excerpt: First QCD results obtained from the CDF experiment using Run II data are reported. The Run II physics program at the Tevatron started in the spring of 2001, with protons and anti-protons colliding at an energy of (square root)s = 1.96 TeV. The size of the data sample already compares to that of Run I. Results presented here include the measurement of the inclusive jet cross section, a search for new particles decaying to dijets, and a study of diffractive dijet events.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Recent results of QCD studies from the CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron {bar p}p collider at Fermilab are presented. The inclusive jet cross section, the internal structure of jets, di-jet angular distributions, di-jet triple differential cross sections, and properties of multi-jet final states are studied and compared with NLO QCD predictions. The comparisons show good agreement between theoretical predictions and the experimental data in general. Some systematic disagreement between LO predictions and the data are observed in di-jet triple differential cross sections. Results of a rapidity gap study are also presented together with an upper limit on the gap fraction. In addition, the inclusive photon cross section and the di-photon cross sections are presented and compared with NLO QCD predictions.

Book excerpt: Experimental results on QCD measurements obtained in recent analyses and based on data collected with CDF Detector from the Run 1b Tevatron running cycle are presented. The scope of the talk includes major QCD topics: a measurement of the strong coupling constant[alpha][sub s], extracted from inclusive jet spectra and the underlying event energy contribution to a jet cone. Another experimental object of QCD interest, prompt photon production, is also discussed and the updated measurements by CDF of the inclusive photon cross section at 630 GeV and 1800 GeV, and the comparison with NLO QCD predictions is presented.

Book Synopsis QCD Studies with W and Z Bosons at the Tevatron by :
Download or read book QCD Studies with W and Z Bosons at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CDF and D0 experiments have both collected large samples of W and Z bosons with the last Tevatron collider run (1995--1996) using p{anti p} collisions at (square root)s = 1.8 TeV. The author presents the results of QCD studies with vector bosons that cover a large range of transverse momentum space, pT, making this a testing ground for both perturbative and non-perturbative QCD. The measurement of the W and Z cross section, their width, the W and Z transverse momentum distribution and the angular distribution of electrons in W decays are described in this paper.

Book excerpt: Recent QCD measurements from the CDF collaboration at the Tevatron are presented, together with future prospects as the luminosity increases. The measured inclusive jet cross section is compared to pQCD NLO predictions. Precise measurements on jet shapes and hadronic energy flows are compared to different phenomenological models that describe gluon emissions and the underlying event in hadron-hadron interactions.
Download or read book Photon Production at CDF and written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prompt photon production has been studied in {bar p}p collisions at (square root)s = 1.8 TeV using the CDF and D0 detectors at Fermilab. The measured inclusive isolated photon spectral at CDF and Do are used to test NLO QCD predictions. The CDF result shows that additional soft radiation (K{sub T}) in excess of NLO QCD is required to explain the data. No new resonance is observed in the photon + jet mass spectrum from D0 which is consistent with NLO QCD predictions. The pseudorapidity distribution of the leading jet in photon events at CDF is compared to different parton distribution sets. The angular distribution is found to be better explained by a larger Bremsstrahlung contribution.
Book Synopsis Theory And Phenomenology Of Sparticles: An Account Of Four-dimensional N=1 Supersymmetry In High Energy Physics by : Manuel Drees
Download or read book Theory And Phenomenology Of Sparticles: An Account Of Four-dimensional N=1 Supersymmetry In High Energy Physics written by Manuel Drees and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-01-18 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supersymmetry or SUSY, one of the most beautiful recent ideas of physics, predicts sparticles existing as superpartners of particles. This book gives a theoretical and phenomenological account of sparticles. Starting from a basic level, it provides a comprehensive, pedagogical and user-friendly treatment of the subject of four-dimensional N=1 supersymmetry as well as its observational aspects in high energy physics and cosmology. Part One of the book introduces the requisite formal theory, preceded by a discussion of the naturalness problem. Part Two describes the supersymmetrization of the Standard Model of particle interactions as well as the origin of soft supersymmetry breaking and how it can be mediated from higher energies. Search strategies for sparticles, supersymmetric Higgs bosons, nonminimal scenarios and cosmological implications are some of the other topics covered. Novel features of the book include a dictionary between two-component and four-component spinor notation, a step-by-step derivation of the nonrenormalization theorem, an extended discussion of supersymmetric renormalization group evolution, detailed analyses of minimal and nonminimal models with gravity (including anomaly) mediated and gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking as well as elaborate self-contained presentations of collider signals of sparticles plus supersymmetric Higgs bosons and of supersymmetric cosmology. Appendices list all Feynman rules for the vertices of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.

Book Synopsis Study of Double Parton Scattering Using Four-Jet Scenarios by : Paolo Gunnellini
Download or read book Study of Double Parton Scattering Using Four-Jet Scenarios written by Paolo Gunnellini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-24 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis addresses in a very new and elegant way several measurements and the extraction of so-called double parton scattering. The new and elegant way lies in the combination of measurements and a very smart extraction of double parton scattering results, which is easy to apply and overcomes many of the technical difficulties of older methods. Many new phenomena in particle physics can be observed when particles are collided at the highest energies; one of the highlights in recent years was the discovery of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Understanding the production mechanism of the Higgs boson at the LHC requires detailed knowledge of the physics of proton-proton collisions. When the density of partons in the protons becomes large, there is a non-negligible probability that more than one parton participates in the interaction and the so-called double parton scattering becomes important. In some cases very particular final state signatures can be observed, which can be regarded as an indication of such double partonic scattering and where the different interactions can be separated. Such multiple partonic interactions play an important role when precise predictions from known processes are required.
