Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease known as COVID-19, has infected people in 212 countries so far and on every continent except Antarctica. Vast changes to our home lives, social interactions, government functioning and relations between countries have swept the world in a few months and are difficult to hold in one’s mind at one time. That is why a collaborative effort such as this edited, multidisciplinary collection is needed. This book confronts the vulnerabilities and interconnectedness made visible by the pandemic and its consequences, along with the legal, ethical and policy responses. These include vulnerabilities for people who have been harmed or will be harmed by the virus directly and those harmed by measures taken to slow its relentless march; vulnerabilities exposed in our institutions, governance and legal structures; and vulnerabilities in other countries and at the global level where persistent injustices harm us all. Hopefully, COVID-19 will forces us to deeply reflect on how we govern and our policy priorities; to focus preparedness, precaution, and recovery to include all, not just some. Published in English with some chapters in French.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel Practices: Joan Jonas & Gina Pane considers the works of two pioneers of performance art. Jonas (born 1936) and Pane (1939-1990) lived and worked in the United States and France respectively. Each artist worked multidisciplinarily, producing sculpture, drawings, installations, film and video in addition to live actions. Notably, Jonas and Pane have been lauded for their foundational work in performance, a field in which both of these artists blazed trails. Published to accompany an exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Parallel Practices explores the trajectory of these artists' practices to reveal shared and complementary aspects, as well as to highlight the significant divergences and differences that characterize each artist's work. It includes texts by curator Dean Daderko, Elisabeth Lebovici and Anne Tronche and Barbara Clausen.
Book Synopsis The Future of Piagetian Theory by : L. Butler
Download or read book The Future of Piagetian Theory written by L. Butler and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-03-26 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until recently, most books and articles on Piaget's theory, whether laudatory or critical, were written by psychologists or, more rarely, epistemologists, who had had no direct contact with the research that provided the basis for the theoretical constructs, nor with the ongoing work on the theory itself. These authors, who looked into the theory, so to speak, from the outside, often noted aspects that were less visible to those working "inside" the theory and in this way raised a number of important questions. However, because most of these authors were psychologists, they often overlooked the main thrust of Piaget's work, which is epistemological. Many complained about a gap between the theory and the experimental data as reported. Such criticism may be justified, at least in part, if the theory is taken to be a psychological theory. But Piaget himself always emphasized his epistemological orientation; with this in view, the methodology of the research and its links to the conceptual framework of the theory appear in a different guise. The value of a given methodology depends on its contribution to the theory for which it was designed. The gap between theory and experiment that was frequently criticized is, in fact, the gap between the psychological and the epistemic subject.
Book Synopsis The Subject's Matter by : Frederique De Vignemont
Download or read book The Subject's Matter written by Frederique De Vignemont and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An interdisciplinary and comprehensive treatment of bodily self-consciousness, considering representation of the body, the sense of bodily ownership, and representation of the self. The body may be the object we know the best. It is the only object from which we constantly receive a flow of information through sight and touch; and it is the only object we can experience from the inside, through our proprioceptive, vestibular, and visceral senses. Yet there have been very few books that have attempted to consolidate our understanding of the body as it figures in our experience and self-awareness. This volume offers an interdisciplinary and comprehensive treatment of bodily self-awareness, the first book to do so since the landmark 1995 collection The Body and the Self, edited by José Bermúdez, Naomi Eilan, and Anthony Marcel (MIT Press). Since 1995, the study of the body in such psychological disciplines as cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, psychiatry, and neuropsychology has advanced dramatically, accompanied by a resurgence of philosophical interest in the significance of the body in our mental life. The sixteen specially commissioned essays in this book reflect the advances in these fields. The book is divided into three parts, each part covering a topic central to an explanation of bodily self-awareness: representation of the body; the sense of bodily ownership; and representation of the self. Contributors Adrian Alsmith, Brianna Beck, José Luis Bermúdez, Anna Berti, Alexandre Billon, Andrew J. Bremner, Lucilla Cardinali, Tony Cheng, Frédérique de Vignemont, Francesca Fardo, Alessandro Farnè, Carlotta Fossataro, Shaun Gallagher, Francesca Garbarini, Patrick Haggard, Jakob Hohwy, Matthew R. Download or read book Receptive Music Therapy written by Isabelle Frohne-Hagemann and published by Reichert Verlag. This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although listening to music in music therapy has a much longer tradition than active music therapy, receptive music therapy in European countries has been strongly neglected for many years. The German edition of this book, published in 2004, is the first to present the most important methods of receptive music therapy in one volume. This volume presents the English edition. 18 well-known European authors present forms of receptive music therapy, which focus on both theoretical and practical aspects. The spectrum of methods and clinical applications is broad: receptive music therapy as or in psychotherapy (f. ex. Guided Imagery and Music, Regulative Music Therapy, Integrative Music Therapy), as Sound Guided Trance, In Depth Relaxation Therapy, in Anthroposophic Music Therapy, etc. Various case studies of adolescent and adult patients illustrate how to work in different clinical contexts. Theoretical questions are discussed concerning topics such as music and (alterated states of) consciousness, music and emotion, music and imagery, music and developmental relationships and music and earliest childhood. This volume provides an extensive overview of Receptive Music Therapy in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Luxembourg.
