Book Synopsis Gabriel Tarde On Communication and Social Influence by : Gabriel Tarde
Download or read book Gabriel Tarde On Communication and Social Influence written by Gabriel Tarde and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gabriel Tarde ranks as one of the most outstanding sociologists of nineteenth-century France, though not as well known by English readers as his peers Comte and Durkheim. This book makes available Tarde’s most important work and demonstrates his continuing relevance to a new generation of students and thinkers. Tarde’s landmark research and empirical analysis drew upon collective behavior, mass communications, and civic opinion as elements to be explained within the context of broader social patterns. Unlike the mass society theorists that followed in his wake, Tarde integrated his discussions of societal change at the macrosocietal and individual levels, anticipating later twentieth-century thinkers who fused the studies of mass communications and public opinion research. Terry N. Clark’s introduction, considered the premier guide to Tarde’s opus, accompanies this important work, reprinted here for the first time in forty years.
Book Synopsis Couple Observational Coding Systems by : Patricia K. Kerig
Download or read book Couple Observational Coding Systems written by Patricia K. Kerig and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-07-22 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A companion volume to Family Observational Coding Systems, this book moves from the triad to the dyad and provides a showcase for significant developments in the coding of intimate couple interactions. The hope is that this book will contribute to the broadening and deepening of the field by disseminating information both about the coding systems that have been developed, as well as the conceptual and methodological issues involved in couple observational research. The first three chapters present overviews of conceptual and methodological issues in the study of couple processes. The remaining chapters describe contributions to the field by 16 teams of researchers. Each chapter provides information about the conceptual underpinnings and structure of the coding system developed by the authors and evidence for its psychometric properties. Couple Observational Coding Systems will be of interest to researchers studying couple interactions as well as clinicians who work with couples.

Book Synopsis Early Child Development in the French Tradition by : Andre Vyt
Download or read book Early Child Development in the French Tradition written by Andre Vyt and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume shares significant contemporary "Francophone" contributions to developmental psychology outside geographic and intellectual borders of French-speaking countries. Except for the spread of Piagetian theory after World War II into Anglophone psychology, these new publications have not become so well known worldwide as progress in Francophone developmental psychology warrants. However, the work of a new generation of developmental theorists and experimentalists continues to shape important and original lines of thinking and research in France, Canada, and in other French-speaking countries. This work also contributes uniquely to issues such as sensori-motor development, perception, language acquisition, social interaction, and the growth and induction of cognitive mechanisms. Scientific concepts are not only embedded in a paradigm, but also in a culture and a language. Instead of writing about Francophone developmental psychology from "outside," this volume brings together original English-language contributions written by researchers working in different Francophone countries. Chapters summarize and interpret research on a given topic, making explicit the context of philosophical and theoretical traditions in which the empirical advances are embedded. Original essays are accompanied by editorial commentaries from eminent scientists working on the same topics in other parts of the world -- topics that are closely related to Francophone streams of thought and themes of study. Together, these essays fully and faithfully represent modern scientific perspectives toward understanding many facets of mental growth and development of the young child.

Book Synopsis Dynamic Emotional Communication by : Wataru Sato
Download or read book Dynamic Emotional Communication written by Wataru Sato and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2020-02-12 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This eBook aims to deepen our understanding of emotional communication by introducing “dynamic” perspectives. Facial and bodily expressions of emotion functions as indispensable communicative signals for human beings. People decode the emotional information conveyed by facial/bodily expressions and use this to coordinate cooperative or competitive social relationships. Experimental psychological research has long investigated these important means of emotional communication. However, this was typically done by using static stimuli of facial/bodily expressions to assess the detection and interpretation of emotions. This paradigm was also adopted in neuropsychological, neurophysiological, and neuroimaging studies. Although researchers accumulated valuable information regarding the psychological and neural mechanisms underlying these processes, the static nature of the stimuli may have resulted in important phenomena remaining unexamined. Recently, scientists have begun to explore dynamic emotional communication, in particular by using dynamic facial/bodily expressions of emotion, instead of static photographs, as stimuli. This is having important consequences for emotion research. As dynamic emotional expressions have increased ecological validity and as there are differences in the visual processing of dynamic and static information, a host of novel aspects of the psychological and neural processing of emotional expressions have been elucidated. For example, it has been shown that motor resonance and the recruitment of motor areas are fundamental to dynamic emotional communication. Researchers have also started to investigate the encoding of dynamic emotional interactions and have clarified the messages embedded in the temporal aspects and the patterns of reciprocal inter-individual coordination. Moreover, investigations of dynamic emotional communication have identified heretofore unrecognized impairments in the social functioning of individuals with psychiatric disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia.

The reader is introduced to the main themes of his thinking: the meaning of life in borderline situations, interpersonal communication, God, the meaning of history and the defense of democracy. His criticism of illiberal totalitarian ways of thinking,

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Inhalt: Part I. What is man? I. The Crisis in Man's Knowledge of Himself II. A Clue to the Nature of Man: the Symbol III. From Animal Reactions to Human Responses IV. The Human World of Space and Time V. Facts and Ideals Part II. Man and Culture VI. The Definition of Man in Terms of Human Culture VII. Myth and Religion VIII. Language IX. Art X. History XI. Science XII. Summary and Conclusion
