Download or read book Orthogeriatrics written by Paolo Falaschi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new open access edition supported by the Fragility Fracture Network aims at giving the widest possible dissemination on fragility fracture (especially hip fracture) management and notably in countries where this expertise is sorely needed. It has been extensively revised and updated by the experts of this network to provide a unique and reliable content in one single volume. Throughout the book, attention is given to the difficult question of how to provide best practice in countries where the discipline of geriatric medicine is not well established and resources for secondary prevention are scarce. The revised and updated chapters on the epidemiology of hip fractures, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, surgery, anaesthesia, medical management of frailty, peri-operative complications, rehabilitation and nursing are supplemented by six new chapters. These include an overview of the multidisciplinary approach to fragility fractures and new contributions on pre-hospital care, treatment in the emergency room, falls prevention, nutrition and systems for audit. The reader will have an exhaustive overview and will gain essential, practical knowledge on how best to manage fractures in elderly patients and how to develop clinical systems that do so reliably.
Book Synopsis Simple and Complex Fractures of the Humerus by : Filippo Castoldi
Download or read book Simple and Complex Fractures of the Humerus written by Filippo Castoldi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The treatment of humeral fractures is a complex issue and the source of considerable controversy. In the case of fractures of the proximal humerus, early range of motion is the main aim of treatment. If a fracture modifies the anatomy or function of the glenohumeral and scapulothoracic joints, the surgeon must adhere meticulously to treatment principles in order to ensure a satisfactory outcome. Humeral shaft fractures are frequent, accounting for 1% to 3% of all fractures in adults; while excellent functional results have been reported with nonoperative management, open reduction and internal fixation is preferred in specific clinical settings. In contrast, intra-articular fractures of the distal humerus are frequently complex and full functional recovery is difficult to achieve. This volume clearly explains the concepts that are central to an understanding of humeral fractures from the proximal to the distal tip. Indications for different forms of treatment, including nonsurgical, are presented in detail, and all of the commonly used fixation techniques are described with the help of high-quality illustrations. Further important aspects such as complications, rehabilitation, and treatment of sequelae are also fully considered. This book will be an invaluable and comprehensive aid for all surgeons who treat humeral fractures.

Book Synopsis Arthroplasty for the Treatment of Fractures in the Older Patient by : Joseph Borrelli Jr.
Download or read book Arthroplasty for the Treatment of Fractures in the Older Patient written by Joseph Borrelli Jr. and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing exclusively on the older patient with poor bone quality, this unique book presents the indications, contraindications and common techniques – as well as the risks, benefits and outcomes – for utilizing arthroplasty for the treatment of fractures in this population, sensibly divided into four thematic sections. The incidence and burden of fragility fractures is presented in part one, with considerations of the influences of osteoporosis on both treatment and healing. The subsequent three sections cover upper extremity fractures, lower extremity fractures, and peri-articular nonunions, respectively. However, far from providing a simple “how-to” for the techniques discussed, the relevant current literature is presented as well as the common techniques employed in fracture management, allowing the reader to select the best approach for the specific patient presentation. In addition, chapters are included here that cover degenerative joint conditions not typically treated with total joint replacement. The treatment of fragility fractures is constantly evolving, and the aging population is consistently expanding, creating a strong need for clinicians who have experience with and exposure to the use of arthroplasty techniques as an option in their successful treatment. Written and edited by leaders in the field, Arthroplasty for the Treatment of Fractures in the Older Patient is an invaluable resource for orthopedic surgeons, residents and support staff who see and treat these increasingly common injuries.
