Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 17 routes in this guidebook explores 29 very grand chateaux and a royal abbaye. Between these châteaux and their communities spread through the valleys of theLoire, Cher, Vienne, and Indre Rivières are gently rolling hills and some thick forests. This guidebook is much more than cycling, it also delves into the history of these châteaux. As in much of the rest of France, the Loire Valley has paved bicycle paths separated from auto and truck traffic. Through metropolitan areas, there are painted bicycle lanes, often shared with busses (which seems somewhat irrational to me).In addition to discussions of Renaissance Architecture and the Loire Rivière, there are 44 short discussions about the towns and châteaux the routes pass.Included are 203 photographs and 18 two-page maps. Also, there are 12 town and châteaux graphics. As always "I DID IT MY WAY." Thanks Frank.Basic data are included on selecting a community and a gîte, bringing your bike or renting, having a vehicle, driving in France, what to bring, and buying groceries. Also by Walter Judson Moore: TravelBicycle Your France Guidebooks and Queue Sheet Companion Guides for these areas: Mediterranean Beaches & BluffsSouth of FranceBordeaux & the PyrénéesRoman Provence & Rhône AlpesProvence - Luberon & LavenderLot Vineyards to Tarn GorgesDordogne Valleys and VillagesBurgundy SecretsBurgundy ExplorationsPhotos of France: Plus Remarks to Help Choose Your Dream RegionWithlacoochee Trail: A PortraitFictionThe Titov Letters: a Novel of Development, Drama, and Life in the New RussiaSynthetic Soviet: a Novel of Biological Intrigue and Family Survival in a Failing System

Book excerpt: Geographically, the route maps and directions for this guidebook focuses on the Roman Provence Region of France of the northern Gard and western Vaucluse Departments, the Drôme Department north and east into the Rhône Alpes, and the southern Ardèche Department. The routes start from three locations: Crest in the Drôme, Vallon-Pont-d'Arc in the Ardèche and Pont du Gard west of Avignon. The Gorges de la Baume & Cirque de Combe Laval route is the outlier due to the staggering beauty of the area. Why this area of France? Not for the industrial Rhône Valley. But, if you wander 20 to 30 kilometers east or west of the Rhône Valley you will find the medieval hilltop villages, deep gorges with rushing rivers, Roman structures and very hospitable people that want to help.Fifteen routes are mapped in detailed color with elevation profiles and exacting, step-by-step directions (data gathered to the nearest 0.2 kilometer).Motorists have not changed in rural France. They are still surprisingly (for a North American) courteous toward cyclists. You can always stop beside the narrow, paved roads in these routes for a break and not be concerned by traffic. You may buy lavender honey, fresh asparagus and strawberries from the farmer, a bottle of wine at a vineyard or olive oil in a morning market. How about riding across the 2,000-year-old, dry laid Pont du Gard aqueduct, the largest constructed by the Romans? The list of experiences is extensive. You will want to come back. There are fifteen cycling routes mapped and profiled. All circuits are on paved roads, except for three kilometers on a partly gravel, partly potholed stretch used to avoid some traffic. Motor vehicle traffic on these routes is light. In addition to the print format, the guide is available for Amazon(r) Kindle and Apple(r) iPad devices. Book excerpt: My second guidebook and friend, BICYCLE YOUR FRANCE: SECRET BURGUNDY, now has a facelift, all redrawn maps, waypoints with GPS data and renamed as BURGUNDY SECRETS. All sixteen of the original route maps are included, but now easier to understand and navigate. Elevation data was acquired every 200 meters on each route and new profiles drafted. All routes include discussions of a few villages, historical personalities and points of interest along the way. Included with each route is the latest method for listing Waypoints. Now each Waypoint locates longitude and latitude in degrees, minutes and seconds (to the hundredth), and in digital format. Cyclists with GPS-enabled smartphones may check each of the turn instructions while their companions either wait around or get on with the ride. As with all other BICYCLE YOUR FRANCE guidebooks, this guide also offers a companion publication, QUEUE SHEETS, with just the Waypoint listings (with GPS), route maps and elevation profile.

In addition to a traditional main table of contents for the ebook, each chapter opens with its own table of contents, making it easy to browse. Full-Color Photos and Maps: It’s hard not to fall in love with Provence & the French Riviera as you flip through a vivid full-color photo album. Explore the layout of city centers and popular neighborhoods with easy-to-read full-color maps. Plus get an overview of French geography with the convenient atlas at the end of the ebook. What’s Covered? Get to Know Provence & the French Riviera: Famed for its Lavender Route, the honey-gold hill towns of the Luberon, and vibrant cities like Aix and Marseilles, Provence was dazzlingly abstracted in geometric daubs of paint by van Gogh and Cézanne. Still haunted by the genius of van Gogh, Arles remains fiercely Provençal and is famed for its folklore events. The spiky Alpilles mountains guard treasures like les Bauz-de-Provence: be bewitched by its ville morte (dead town) and luxurious l’Oustau de la Baumanière inn. Avignon and the Vaucluse are the heart of Provençal delights. Presided over by its medieval Palais des Papes, Avignon is an ideal gateway for exploring the nearby Roman ruins of Orange. About 10 miles east of Avignon is the Sorgue Valley, where everybody goes “flea”-ing in the famous antiques market at l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. For one day, join all those fashionable folk for whom café squatting, people watching, and boutique shopping are a way of life in Aix-en-Provence (one of France’s 10 richest towns). Enjoy the elegant 18th-century streets, then track the spirit of Cézanne at his famous studio and nearby Mont Ste-Victoire. Head south to become a Calanques castaway before diving into Marseille, one of France’s most vibrant and colorful cities. The French Riviera can supply the visitor with everything his heart desires—and his purse can stand. Home to sophisticated resorts beloved by billionaires, remote hill villages colonized by artists, Mediterranean beaches, and magnificent views, the Côte d’Azur stretches from Marseille to Menton. Thrust out like two gigantic arms, divided by the Valley of the Var at Nice, the Alpes-Maritime peaks protect the length of that favored coast from St-Tropez to the Italian frontier. Note: This ebook edition is adapted from Fodor's Provence & the French Riviera, 9th Edition but differs in some content. Additionally, the ebook edition includes photographs and maps that will appear on black-and-white devices but are optimized for devices that support full-color images.

Book excerpt: "Like sitting with a friend telling you about his trip" Goodreads "Descriptions were awesome" Goodreads "Lovely descriptions and atmospheric moments" Goodreads "Real to life and not just a travelog" Amazon US Verified This is an affectionate account of our French travels in Provence - meeting so many remarkable (and eccentric) people and places over a 20 year period travelling by car from the North of England. Is it a guide book? Well, the people and places are there but I really want to inspire you to make your own journey and treasure this gorgeous region of breathtaking scenery and the finest food and wine. If not, then be entertained from your armchair and let your imagination take you to the lavender fields in a delightful summer read. Enjoy until we can travel again. PLEASE 'LOOK INSIDE' for the first part of the book : 'Monsieur, - you are hot from the journey, oui?' I could only agree that I was indeed the very picture of the Englishman in the noonday sun. She broke away from watering her extensive and beautiful enclosed garden. 'I will cool you down' Turning the hose on my fully clothed self she most certainly did that. PRAISE FOR 'THYME FOR PROVENCE' 5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2020 I enjoyed this book so very much. As I read it, I felt like I was sitting with a friend and he was telling me about his trip. The descriptions of the countryside were awesome only outdone by the ones about the food I recommend it and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • In this witty and warm-hearted account, Peter Mayle tells what it is like to realize a long-cherished dream and actually move into a 200-year-old stone farmhouse in the remote country of the Lubéron with his wife and two large dogs. He endures January's frosty mistral as it comes howling down the Rhône Valley, discovers the secrets of goat racing through the middle of town, and delights in the glorious regional cuisine. A Year in Provence transports us into all the earthy pleasures of Provençal life and lets us live vicariously at a tempo governed by seasons, not by days.

Book excerpt: Praise for More Than A Year In Provence"I wish you tremendous success"Guy KawasakiAuthor of APE, Enchantment, What The Plus."Christopher's truly unique adventures cycling the backroads of France are a must read for anyone who's ever dreamed of a French country life. I just hope his sequel will reveal where his paradise village is!"Robert ReidReid on Travel, Lonley Planet, New York Times"If it's true that travel broadens, this book will give you a 360° view of authentic French Country Life."Jeff SteinerAmericans in France,Live in FranceFRANCE TRAVELPeter Mayle started it all with "A Year in Provence." Inspiring Rick Steves, the Lonely Planet crew and all the France Travel Guidebook creators that were to follow. One guy who was not influenced by these fine folks, was the Author of this book. Simply because, at that time, he didn't know they existed!.But not to worry. San Francisco Film Maker Christopher Strong had his own "Tour de France" dream. To spontaneously cycle the French Country backroads. With no fixed itinerary. Tasting the land and the people as well as the food and wine.FRANCE FOR DUMMIESAnd so finally, after a week of irregular and informal French Lessons from a Dutch friend, with no regard for the niceties of French Grammar, Christopher's French Vocabulary was limited to five words: "hello", "goodbye", "please", "thank you", and the essential "where's the toilet?".FRENCH KISSIn spite of, or perhaps because of his lack of French Language smarts, with no butt saving French Phrasebook, Christopher's first "Tour de France" was a resounding personal success. Even on the French Riviera!.FRANCE TRAVEL GUIDE - MORE THAN A YEAR IN PROVENCEInspired by the overwhelming hospitality lavished upon him, Christopher decided to return and film his next adventure. He did. And he continued, year after year. Until finally he had an up close and personal lifestyle/adventure series - "Bicycle Gourmet's Treasures of France." An authentic view of France Today..FRENCH HISTORYAfter seeing the first results of Christopher's "Tour de France" filming, his friends, not suprisingly, suggested he write a book. Not a book on French Cooking or (shudder) French Diet mind you, but a "behind the scenes" account of his filming adventures. And his many encounters with French Wine..More Than A Year In Provence is that book.
