Book Synopsis Proposed Guidelines for Site Investigations for Foundations of Nuclear Power Plants by :
Download or read book Proposed Guidelines for Site Investigations for Foundations of Nuclear Power Plants written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Site investigations for nuclear power plants are necessary to determine the geotechnical conditions that affect the design, cost, performance, and safety of the plants. Major considerations for analysis and design include the bearing capacity of foundation materials, the total and differential settlements of structures under static and earthquake loading conditions, the stability of cuts and slopes in soil and rock under static and earthquake loading conditions, the propagation of earthquake-induced motions through underlying deposits, and the potential for liquefaction of soils. The stability of foundations during construction must also be assured. The purpose of the proposed guidelines is to describe programs of geological and engineering site investigations that would be adequate to evaluate the safety of the site and to provide the parameters needed for engineering analysis and design of foundations and earthworks. General requirements for site investigations are discussed. Methods of subsurface investigation, including their applicability, limitations, and pitfalls, and described. Proposed rules for spacing and depth of subsurface exploration for various kinds of seismic Category I structures are given. (Author).

Book Synopsis Proposed Guidelines for Laboratory Testing of Geological Materials for Nuclear Power Facilities by :
Download or read book Proposed Guidelines for Laboratory Testing of Geological Materials for Nuclear Power Facilities written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report gives proposed guidelines for the laboratory testing of soil and rock materials for geotechnical analysis and design of nuclear power facilities. It discusses requirements for laboratory facilities and test apparatus, including calibration of test devices; the handling and storage of samples; the selection and preparation of test specimens; and procedures that should be followed in testing. It gives special emphasis to testing for dynamic response analysis of soils, and discusses a number of pitfalls and sources of error in performing and interpreting cyclic tests. A table is provided in which various test methods for soil and rock are listed, together with references to published standard or preferred methods of test and references to other important or useful publications.
