Book excerpt: Your memories and feelings could be stored in matter based on non-physical atoms. This book takes the unique approach of recognizing that mental and spiritual phenomena can be observed in the same way that scientists observe physical phenomena. The book shows how all phenomena can be explained by string theory developed by physicists. First, the mind is described in accordance with modern psychology and introspection. String theory is then interpreted in a way that incorporates the mind and consciousness into the cosmos. Consciousness and Cosmos provides many new and exciting perspectives that will be appreciated by readers of all backgrounds. A deeper introduction to modern physics, cosmology and the scientific approach is also provided for added interest. The book builds on established knowledge, but enables spirituality to become part of mainstream science and shows how matter and spirit can be reconciled. It provides new perspectives about existing knowledge for professionals in fields such as physics, psychology, neurology and biology. Additional information at amatterofmind.net

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A discussion of the implications for philosophy of recent experimental results that confirm some counterintuitive aspects of the way matter behaves. The authors show that a generalised principle of complementarity is pervasive not only in physical theories such as cosmological models of the universe, but also in the construction of all human realities. They discuss in detail Bells inequalities for quantum mechanical measurements as well as recent experiments which imply that even remote parts of the universe are "entangled." They go on to suggest that consciousness can no longer be divorced from the way science operates, and conclude by claiming that this entails a new way of understanding the universe - one that could obviate much of the current conflict between science and religion while providing at the same time a basis for valuation that is better suited for co-ordinating all human experience. This second edition has been completely rewritten and brought up to date.

Book excerpt: In this stimulating and timely book, Amit Goswami, PhD, shatters the widely popular belief held by Western science that matter is the primary "stuff" of creation and proposes instead that consciousness is the true foundation of all we know and perceive. His explanation of quantum physics for lay readers, called "a model of clarity" by Kirkus Reviews, sets the stage for a voyage of discovery through the common ground of science and religion, the entwined nature of mind and body, and our interconnectedness with all of creation.

Are the Distinctions Between the Past Present and Future Illusions as claimed by Einstein? Is it possible to travel into the future through the power of mind? Memory enables us to travel into the past, but mental time travel allows one to visit a future; a future which may already exist as predicted by Einstein's field equations: time may be a circle leading from the present to the future and then the past. Relativity also predicts that the only way to travel to the past is to first travel to the future, at which point one contracts to a size smaller than a Plank length and in so doing blowing a hole through the fabric of the space-time continuum and which may lead to a mirror universe if one dares to cross over the Einstein-Rosen bridge--and similar bridges are predicted to lead to other universes upon entering and surviving a journey through a black hole. Quantum mechanics also predicts time reversal in spaces smaller than a Plank length. Although the branch of quantum physics known as the many worlds interpretation rejects a central role for the collapse of the wave function by conscious observation and the act of measurements, the implications remain that there is no universal now and more than one past, present, or future, some more probable than others. The many worlds interpretation also resolves issues related to possible paradoxes of time travel, such as changing the past, which just becomes one past among many. As explained in this volume, Einstein s relativity not only predicts that there is no universal now but that the future and the past and the experience of time are also relative to an observer."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a Physicist with 20 years in Neuro-science Medical Research who has experienced numerous medically documented NDEs. The book describes in depth and detail the mysteries of quantum physics and its relationship with consciousness, the fact that we 'paint the universe into being, ' using the NDE to bridge the gap between infinite consciousness and this finite reality and provides for the first time a working definition for consciousness that satisfies all of the requirements in quantum physics and consequently every religion of man, in terms specifically accessible to the lay reader; and goes on to explain in detail 'how we do it, ' how we control time itself by our perception and awareness, how we manipulate the four forces of nature and infinite energy to 'paint the universe into being, ' and have done so since before the creation of this universe itself. The working definition in question simply requires consciousness to be unique and infinite in duration and scope, the evidence of this expressed in terms that challenges the scientific community to find an irrefutable counter argument, which is unlikely, leaving this finite universe to be infinitesimal, to the extent that it does not truly exist, merely an experience of perception that we ourselves define, an extension of ourselves, a 'construct.' Modern mainstream physics has in some cases departed from this original view of the founders of quantum physics who expected future generations to find this working definition for consciousness in order to complete a model that describes a universe interdependent with 'us.' These alternative views that attempt to eliminate consciousness from the equations are described in detail and an explanation in exacting terms where and why they fall short is provided. Although the details of quantum physics have been out of reach for the lay reader to date, the actual details are explained and the math described in terms most anyone can understand. The various paradoxes are described and investigated in detail and upon utilizing this working definition for consciousness that requires infinite unique existence these paradoxes simply 'go away.' Interestingly, these paradoxes extend to philosophy and religion, and using the same definition for infinite unique consciousness even the most unanswerable religious paradoxes disappear; seemingly unanswerable questions such as 'if there is a God why is there so much suffering in the world?' Because you are not here, this is merely a perception, it is not really happening... Being a unique infinite being, you therefore reside in an infinite domain, not this finite universe; you cannot fit an infinite thing inside of a finite 'box.' There have been many attempts by various authors to find these relationships in quantum physics literally filling the bookshelves attempting to validate or construct entire psycho-spiritual belief systems that seem appealing to the lay reader. Unfortunately, since none of them to date have been physicists, their understanding of the science and the vocabulary has been misconception and unintentionally misleading. The corrections to these misconceptions and urban myths are provided as well as dismissing misconceptions and urban myths in science, rather direct and irreverently. But when the correct usage and understanding of quantum physics and its relationship with infinite unique consciousness is applied, an answer does come out of it, an answer far greater in scope than anything written to date. It defines a 'self' that 'paints the universe into being, ' beyond our previous conceptions of our own nature and extends to all life, everywhere. There is a lot of not main stream thinking in science presented here, hypothetical, and speculative, but presented as such. The foundations for these are clearly referenced and easily accessible.

Book excerpt: Does quantum mechanics show a connection between the human mind and the cosmos? Are our brains tuned into a "cosmic consciousness" that pervades the universe enabling us to make our own reality? Do quantum mechanics and chaos theory provide a place for God to act in the world without violating natural laws? Many popular books make such claims and argue that key developments in twentieth-century physics, such as the uncertainty principle and the butterfly effect, support the notion that God or a universal mind acts upon material reality. The author here examines these contentions in a carefully reasoned analysis of popular theories that seek to link spirituality to physics. Throughout the book, the author alternates his discussions of popular spirituality with a survey of what the findings of twentieth-century physics actually mean. Thus he offers the reader a useful synopsis of contemporary religious ideas as well as basic but sophisticated physics presented in layperson's terms (without equations). Of particular interest in this book is the author's discussion of a new kind of deism, which proposes a God who creates a universe with many possible pathways determined by chance, but otherwise does not interfere with the physical world or the lives of humans.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have seen remarkable progress in our detailed understanding of the physical world, from the smallest constituents of atoms to the remotest distances seen by telescopes. However, we have yet to explore the phenomenon of consciousness. Can physical things be conscious or is consciousness something else, forever outside the range of physics? And how does consciousness interact with physical things? A lively account of quantum theory and its puzzles, Conscious Mind in the Physical World examines two developments in particular that have altered the context of discussions about consciousness. One is computer technology, which allows us to make machines that can calculate at speeds far greater than the human brain, while the other is the study of the microscopic world. The book explores philosophical issues such as idealism and free will and speculates on the relationship of consciousness to quantum mechanics. This resource will stimulate physicists with an interest in philosophy, philosophers interested in physics, and anyone fascinated about the waking state of the mind.

Book excerpt: The underlying experience of the mystics indicates that there are layers of the human mind that are capable of accessing heightened levels of consciousness. While science has limited itself to the lowest level of man's consciousness, these higher levels open up possibilities of knowledge-yielding experiences. The interesting thing is that some of the most recent discoveries of quantum theory are partial but accurate reflections of mystical experiences. Even if the mode of acquiring mystical "data" is not acceptable to science, the records of mystical experiences may provide guidance in resolving such problems as the relationship between consciousness and matter, the nature of dark matter, the mechanism driving human evolution, the overall purpose of the universe and its lifetime, and the function and destiny of humankind. It is for this reason that rational science should reach towards the mystical records as a source of relevant information needed for a meaningful continuation of the exploration of life and the universe.A Journey through Cosmic Consciousness provides a model of the universe based on mystics' experiences but expressed in the terms of quantum physics and modern cosmology.

Book excerpt: The modern materialist approach to life has conspicuously failed to explain such central mind-related features of our world as consciousness, intentionality, meaning, and value. This failure to account for something so integral to nature as mind, argues philosopher Thomas Nagel, is a major problem, threatening to unravel the entire naturalistic world picture, extending to biology, evolutionary theory, and cosmology. Since minds are features of biological systems that have developed through evolution, the standard materialist version of evolutionary biology is fundamentally incomplete. And the cosmological history that led to the origin of life and the coming into existence of the conditions for evolution cannot be a merely materialist history, either. An adequate conception of nature would have to explain the appearance in the universe of materially irreducible conscious minds, as such. Nagel's skepticism is not based on religious belief or on a belief in any definite alternative. In Mind and Cosmos, he does suggest that if the materialist account is wrong, then principles of a different kind may also be at work in the history of nature, principles of the growth of order that are in their logical form teleological rather than mechanistic. In spite of the great achievements of the physical sciences, reductive materialism is a world view ripe for displacement. Nagel shows that to recognize its limits is the first step in looking for alternatives, or at least in being open to their possibility.

Book excerpt: There is a growing revolution in the field of human consciousness, as a quest for deeper meaning at the personal level emerges. This book has been written as a contribution to the evolution of human consciousness, seen through the eyes of both practitioners and clients. Quantum Consciousness blends simple yet powerful concepts of Quantum Physics and Expanded States of Awareness, with cutting edge models and research into the field of human consciousness. The combination of these different, though complimentary areas of human potential combine to form what has come to be known as the Quantum Consciousness Experience (QCE). QCE draws on the quantum principles of: The Observer Effect, Entanglement, Non-locality and the Holographic nature of our existence, visiting Alternate Realities, Parallel Lives and other dimensions. Ultimately we can expand and connect with the fabric of the cosmos, embracing the oneness of all there is. Consciousness Researchers tell us that we are an energy that shifts, changes and travels unbound by time and space. Quantum Scientists tell us that we are energy, consisting of subatomic particles and that the entire universe is our home. Both are right, we are Quantum Consciousness. We are a window to a dynamic and unfolding universal journey. Simply put, we are a human portal waiting to be released into the fabric of the cosmos itself. The purpose of this book is to help people "Remember". To remember that we are part of creation, part of a greater energy and that the remembering of this through personal experience is all it takes to change a life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A daring new vision of quantum theory from one of the leading minds of contemporary physics Quantum physics is the golden child of modern science. It is the basis of our understanding of atoms, radiation, and so much else, from elementary particles and basic forces to the behavior of materials. But for a century it has also been the problem child of science: it has been plagued by intense disagreements between its inventors, strange paradoxes, and implications that seem like the stuff of fantasy. Whether it's Schrödinger's cat--a creature that is simultaneously dead and alive--or a belief that the world does not exist independently of our observations of it, quantum theory challenges our fundamental assumptions about reality. In Einstein's Unfinished Revolution, theoretical physicist Lee Smolin provocatively argues that the problems which have bedeviled quantum physics since its inception are unsolved and unsolvable, for the simple reason that the theory is incomplete. There is more to quantum physics, waiting to be discovered. Our task--if we are to have simple answers to our simple questions about the universe we live in--must be to go beyond quantum mechanics to a description of the world on an atomic scale that makes sense. In this vibrant and accessible book, Smolin takes us on a journey through the basics of quantum physics, introducing the stories of the experiments and figures that have transformed our understanding of the universe, before wrestling with the puzzles and conundrums that the quantum world presents. Along the way, he illuminates the existing theories that might solve these problems, guiding us towards a vision of the quantum that embraces common sense realism. If we are to have any hope of completing the revolution that Einstein began nearly a century ago, we must go beyond quantum mechanics to find a theory that will give us a complete description of nature. In Einstein's Unfinished Revolution, Lee Smolin brings us a step closer to resolving one of the greatest scientific controversies of our age.
