Book excerpt: On their way to meet up with an ancient dragon, Guntharr, Taya, Firebane and the others encounter a group of elves taken captive by a small army of barbarians. Concerned for their possible allies, Guntharr breaks away from the group to try and discover what fate would befall them. Firebane, now in charge, must lead the others without the help of Rift, through a dangerous dungeon in order to recover a coveted treasure that their dragon host requires to secure an audience with him. Compelled by a longing to return home and a fear that his life is nearing an end, Rift journeys back to Wolf Valley to spend his last days among his family. His warm welcome is cut short when Rift discovers that his oldest son has been missing for weeks, presumably out searching for him. As a result, his youngest has been trying to hold things together with the council of wolves and Rift’s return sparks a controversy which ends with his arrest and subsequent trial. As Rift stands to defend himself, Raskin risks his life and makes a historic appearance in the middle of wolf territory. Alerted to the fact that Guntharr and the others are in deep trouble, Rift is forced to accept banishment from Wolf Valley. Recruiting his family, Rift follows his feathered friend into the wilderness to a long forgotten fortress. There, Firebane and the others are lured into a trap and captured by none other than Guntharr who is now under the control of an evil enchantress. Mastering the power of the green gem, the enchantress, at the request of her sister Naranda, returns a certain wizard back to life. With Guntharr now under the sway of the enchantress, Firebane’s faith and courage is taxed to the limit. Not only must he battle the persuasive power of the enchantress, but hope against all hope that he can find a way to free them all and recover the next piece to the Talisman of Alterian before all is lost.

From the rubble, an elite guardian from the realm of Dayspring locates the king’s hidden treasure and rescues her before her existence is discovered. Going into hiding, the guardian raises the elf child for fourteen years until, by accident, her existence becomes suspect. Hunted down, the guardian and his ward race across the five realms of Teradandra looking for allies that can protect the princess and locate the one artifact—a talisman—that can confirm to the world that she is indeed the heir to the throne of Silverwood. With time running out and the talisman broken apart by a curse into five pieces, the guardian and his allies race against the dark forces of Nightfall to keep the princess alive and recover the talisman. Only then can peace be restored to the five realms. Only then will the glory of Silverwood be known. Welcome to the land of Teradandra!

Traveling back to her and Guntharr’s original home, Taya encounters the unlikeliest of allies in the form of a young red dragon. But even the dragon is not cunning enough for Wilstrom and his conspirators as they intercept Taya just as she recovers the final gem. Imprisoned and alone, Taya has only one hope left, faith that her companions can find her. But how will they do that, when even she does not know where Wilstrom has taken her. With the looming Talicron threat, time is not on their side. For one member of the group, time is up.

Plass seals the deal by turning over the red gem of power. Its discovery coincides with the alphas’ orchestrated extermination of a certain caste of hawk lords. Tensions rise as Raskin discovers the truth about the events leading up to his rescue by Silverwood’s princess. As he prepares for the ultimate fate, the sudden appearance of an impossible hawk lord gives him the strength to forgive himself and a new courage to move forward. Book Synopsis And Not Make Dreams Your Master by : Stephen Goldin
Download or read book And Not Make Dreams Your Master written by Stephen Goldin and published by Parsina Press. This book was released on 2011-05-30 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the near future, Dream broadcasting has become the latest entertainment medium. Wearing a Dreamcap while you sleep enables broadcasters to send Dreams directly into your unconscious mind, giving you an entertainment experience as intensely real as though you'd been there yourself. Wayne Corrigan is a performer at Dramatic Dreams, one of the smaller broadcast studios in the Los Angeles area. Janet Meyers, the lady Wayne's in love with but is too shy to tell her, is another. A third colleague is Vince Rondel, a genius of the art, a so-called Master Dreamer with enough imagination to create and populate entire worlds within their minds and project them to the audience. Vince is the superstar of the studio, though he doesn't seem pretentious about it. He does have other problems, though, like a domineering mother who's a religious zealot. When a mysterious malfunction occurs, Wayne is called on to enter a Dream started by Vince. Once inside, he finds a situation run wild and people enslaved by Vince, who seems bent on self-destruction. Now, tens of thousands of people--including Janet, who's in the audience that night--are in danger of dying or going insane unless Wayne can find some way to wrest control of the Dream away from Vince. And Not Make Dreams Your Master is a wild, inventive ride through the nightmare mind of a madman.
Download or read book Soul Catcher written by Merle Ricklefs and published by NUS Press. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mangkunagara I (1726-95) was one of the most flamboyant figures of 18th-century Java. A charismatic rebel from 1740 to 1757 and one of the foremost military commanders of his age, he won the loyalty of many followers. He was also a devout Muslim of the Mystic Synthesis style, a devotee of Javanese culture and a lover of beautiful women and Dutch gin. His enemies—the Surakarta court, his uncle the rebel and later Sultan Mangkubumi of Yogyakarta and the Dutch East India Company—were unable to subdue him, even when they united against him. In 1757 he settled as a semi-independent prince in Surakarta, pursuing his objective of as much independence as possible by means other than war, a frustrating time for a man who was a fighter to his fingertips. Professor Ricklefs here employs an extraordinary range of sources in Dutch and Javanese—among them Mangkunagara I’s voluminous autobiographical account of his years at war, the earliest autobiography in Javanese so far known—to bring this important figure to life. As he does so, our understanding of Java’s devastating civil war of the mid-18th century is transformed and much light is shed on Islam and culture in Java.

Book excerpt: Josh is the youngest of four with two older sisters and an older brother. He is a committed Christian working as a firefighter in the suburbs. Christmas Eve has come, and Josh has returned home to spend the evening with his family, celebrating the birth of his Savior only to face ridicule. Trying to calm the situation, Joshs father and mother step in and try to control the dialogue, but they, too, secretly harbor deep feelings of their own. At the core of the divisiveness overshadowing the family is Joshs decision to set aside a potential career as a professional athlete for a more selfless and sacrificial career. Jake is the oldest of the four and a well-to-do accountant who recently went through a divorce. Adam, Jakes son, was allowed to come to the gathering and is a bright spot in the whole affair for Josh. Next in line is Sabrina. She is a graphics designer and currently lives with her boyfriend, enjoying a free-spirited and immoral life. Melody is the closest in age to Josh and still lives at home. Barely finishing high school a few years ago, she struggles to find direction in her life. Josh suspects that Melody has turned to drugs as a means of escape, but Joshs mother and father refuse to believe it. Having spent the last couple of years working part time in a Quick Mart, Melody has grown depressed and distant from all in the family. At one time, she had aspirations to become a writer, but hopelessness has consumed her dreams. Joshs mother and father are retired and have been for several years. Both have at one point in their lives professed Christ as their Savior, but apathy has taken the place of a life filled with faith for many years. Joshs mother has recently begun to reach back toward her faith, but the years of neglect have made it difficult to escape her present state. Dads faith is stagnant at best, and he has lost any love for the Savior that he may have once had. Simply bidding his time, Joshs father waits for the inevitable.
