Para luchar contra la epidemia y aliviar la carga, se necesita conocer mejor los aspectos historicos, economicos, politicos y de salud pulica de la oferta, la demanda y el consumo de tabaco. Esta publicacion se destina a profundizar ese conocimiento suministrando informacion sobre el marco socioeconomico general, la industria tabacalera, el uso de tabaco, el tabaquismo y sus efectos para la salud y las actividades de prevencion y control del tabaquismo en los paises de America Latina, el Caribe y el Canada. La mayor parte de la informacion que contiene esta publicacion no se encuentra en una sola fuente. Por tanto, servira de base para los paises en desarrollo de la Region al abordar los complejos asuntos que entranan la prevencion y el control del uso de tabaco.
