Book Synopsis Completion, Volume 2/Part 1 by : Jindrich Toman
Download or read book Completion, Volume 2/Part 1 written by Jindrich Toman and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-19 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roman Jakobson's writings range over the entire field of general linguistics, as well as embracing Slavic linguistics and literature theory. Jakobson has had a tremenduous influence on the development of linguistic theory. He was a founder of and prime mover in the Prague Linguistic Circle. On the basis of the new structuralist concepts, he set forth bold theories of general linguistics and illustrated them with brilliant demonstrations based on Slavic and other languages. Taking a leading role in the elucidation of the structural linguistic field of phonology, Jakobson used these insights to develop new trends in historical phonology. Altogether, his linguistics appears to incorporate the technical design of modern theoretical concepts, but at the same time transcends purely formal modeling through its interdisciplinary focus upon historical and poetic matters. Jakobson was enormously successful in presenting innovative theoretical insights and relating them to possible practical applications. Specifically, his work on the general processes of language acquisition and loss, on child language and aphasia, opened up entirely new methods for linguists and doctors alike. The series Selected Writings represents the whole range of Roman Jakobson's field of research.

Book Synopsis Prépositions et postpositions - approches typologiques et formelles by : TSENG Jesse
Download or read book Prépositions et postpositions - approches typologiques et formelles written by TSENG Jesse and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Faiblesse et force, présidence et collégialité chez Paul de Tarse written by Loïc Berge and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-05-12 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2 Cor. 10–13, as in the entire Pauline corpus, the use of the first person plural is surprising. Paul oscillates between singular ('I') and plural ('We'), sometimes within the same sentence. While this literary feature has never been seriously explored, this study undertakes in the first part an investigation of the meanings of 'we' in ancient Greek texts through several literary genres, from Homer to the Hellenistic period. The second part, devoted to 2 Cor. 10–13, shows the neat architecture of these chapters, and the way the key theological message about weakness (ἀσθένεια) and power (δύναμις) is delivered. Also the occurrences of 'We' and 'I' throughout the text reveal a further underlying theology of authority.

Download or read book Production des Connaissances en Sciences Sociales en Afrique written by Moulio Moungbakou and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2022-02-11 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the epistemological, ethical and methodological challenges faced by African scholars in their research practices. The epistemological domain addresses three interrelated topics: how African university students ethnocentric choice of research topics hampers the production of knowledge; researchers adaptation of their research methods to improve validity; and the challenge of knowledge production on community museums plagued by gross inertia, irregularities, uncooperative gatekeepers and inadequate funding. The methodological domain foregrounds issues around scientific rigour, the criteria for what counts as quality research, and reporting standards. Contributors contend that the use of mixed methods provides the best scope for the effective study and evaluation of social issues. They also detail how better-funded projects tend to improve the respect of ethical standards especially as they pertain to the protection of subjects confidentiality. Self-financed researchers on the other hand tend to be less compliant, a challenge that afflict especially younger and inexperienced researchers. This volume thus contributes not only to a critical understanding of the challenges faced by social scientists in contemporary Africa, but also the prospects and mechanisms on how to improve knowledge production processes.

Download or read book Donum Grammaticum written by Hannah Rosén and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this volume treat issues in Hannah Rosen's many fields of scholarly interest. Most of the articles deal with subjects in Latin linguistics and philology; others treat Celtic linguistics and philology, while some combine the two. A number of the papers take Hannah Rosen's own work as their point of departure: especially, research on nominalization and periphrasis; on tense use and narrative structure; on translation technique. The authors adopt a variety of perspectives and approaches. This volume includes many contributions that are descriptive, comparative, or historical in nature, as well as some reflecting a literary orientation. A few authors use the text and its structure as their framework. A wide range of approaches to syntactical analysis on various levels of expression is prominently represented in the work of many of the contributors.
