It offers numerous examples, templates for project management methods and practical tips. It also aims to convey the joy of project management, which – when carried out professionally – is probably one of the most versatile and exciting professions imaginable. The IPMA® (International Project Management Association) defines global standards for professional project management. The three competence areas of the current standard ICB4.0 (Individual Competence Baseline) Perspective (context), People (personal and social) and Practice (methods and technical) provide the certification framework for project managers. The competence-based approach of IPMA® enables the transfer into practice and goes beyond the pure knowledge acquisition of other certifications solely based on tools and methods. In this way, the transfer to everyday project management can be managed successfully. Contents: Project context: how projects are embedded in companies, what legal regulations need to be considered, the role of organizational culture in project implementation People in the project: personal and social skills for project managers, how to design projects with people for people Methods and techniques: from requirements analysis to performance, resource, time and cost planning through to project controlling and project closure All topics are explained for both classical (plan-based) and agile project management and how to combine these two approaches (hybrid). New in the 2nd edition: Modernized German standard of the current ICB 4 (valid from 01.01.2024) Coverage of agile and hybrid project management Continuous project examples as an aid for writing the Level D report

This book was released on 2006 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intergovernmental fiscal transfers are a dominant feature of subnational finance in most countries. They are used to ensure that revenues roughly match the expenditure needs of various orders (levels) of subnational governments. They are also used to advance national, regional, and local area objectives, such as fairness and equity, and creating a common economic union. The structure of these transfers creates incentives for national, regional, and local governments that have a bearing on fiscal management, macroeconomic stability, distributional equity, allocative efficiency, and public services delivery. This paper reviews the conceptual, empirical, and practice literature to distill lessons of policy interest in designing the fiscal transfers to create the right incentives for prudent fiscal management and competitive and innovative service delivery. It provides practical guidance on the design of performance-oriented transfers that emphasize bottom-up, client-focused, and results-based government accountability. It cites examples of simple but innovative grant designs that can satisfy grantors' objectives while preserving local autonomy and creating an enabling environment for responsive, responsible, equitable, and accountable public governance. The paper further provides guidance on the design and practice of equalization transfers for regional fiscal equity as well as the institutional arrangements for implementation of such transfer mechanisms. It concludes with negative (practices to avoid) and positive (practices to emulate) lessons from international practices.

Book excerpt: The emergence of marine and freshwater toxins in geographical areas where they have never been reported before is a concern due to the considerable impact on (sea)food contamination, and consequently, on public health. Several groups of marine biotoxins, in particular tetrodotoxins, ciguatoxins, and palytoxins, are included among the relevant marine biotoxins that have recently emerged in several coastal areas. A similar situation has been observed in freshwater, where cyanobacterial toxins, such as microcystins, could end up in unexpected areas such as the estuaries where shellfish are cultivated. Climate change and the increased availability of nutrients have been considered as the key factors in the expansion of all of these toxins into new areas; however, this could also be due to more intense biological invasions, more sensitive analytical methods, or perhaps even an increased scientific interest in these natural contaminations. The incidences of human intoxications due to the consumption of seafood contaminated with these toxins have made their study an important task to accomplish in order to protect human health. This Special Issue has a focus on a wide variety of emerging biotoxin classes and techniques to identify and quantify them.

Progress is now evident in the implementation of Chapter 17 of Agenda 21, as reviewed by the 1997 UNGA Special Session. These developments and the establishment of the International Seabed Authority (ISBA) and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) make the continuation of the NILOS Documentary Yearbook, now in its 11th year, of particular significance in the years to come. The Yearbook compiles the documents related to ocean affairs and the law of the sea issued each year by organizations, organs, and bodies of the United Nations system. These include documents of the U.N. General Assembly, ECOSOC and its regional Commissions, the U.N. Secretary-General's Informal Consultations, PrepCom ISA/ITLOS, UNCED, UNEP and UNCTAD; followed by the documents of specialized agencies and other autonomous organizations of the U.N. system, including FAO, IAEA, ILO, IMO, UNESCO/IOC and WMO. The Yearbook reproduces in full documents issued in the course of the most recent year and lists other relevant documents. The NILOS Documentary Yearbook has proved of invaluable assistance in facilitating access by the community of scholars and practitioners in ocean affairs and the law of the sea to essential documentation.

Book excerpt: Little did Kathleen, Chief Architect at ArchiSurance, know, as she walked into a meeting with the CIO, just how much her job was going to change. Her intention had been to get approval for some new ideas she’d had to strengthen their Enterprise Architecture, after having slowly lost a grip on it during the merger. During the meeting, however, it becomes apparent that the transformation of the organization to become more digital has caused chaos, and not only for her team. It is clear, despite all good intentions, that the transformation is failing. By the end of the meeting, she has agreed to help turn the situation around. After leading the initial reset of the Digital Transformation, Kathleen is suddenly the owner of the implementation. What follows is a journey of the typical problems faced by companies as they make decisions to deploy digital technologies. Kathleen proceeds to solve one problem after the other using guidance from the open digital standards of The Open Group to lay the foundation for deploying quality digital technology solutions at a faster pace.

Book excerpt: This book explores the co-development of political, social, economic, and artistic networks of Florentines in the Kingdom of Hungary during the reign of Sigismund of Luxembourg. Analyzing the social network of these politicians, merchants, artisans, royal officers, dignitaries of the Church, and noblemen is the primary objective of this book. The study addresses both descriptively the patterns of connectivity and causally the impacts of this complex network on cultural exchanges of various types, among these migration, commerce, diplomacy, and artistic exchange. In the setting of a case study, this monograph should best be thought of as an attempt to cross the boundaries that divide political, economic, social, and art history so that they simultaneously figure into a single integrated story of Florentine history and development.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a simple guide for anyone who wants to learn about the Agile concept and the Scrum framework by: understanding the reasons behind various approaches instead of just going through do’s and don’ts and clichés, and understanding the diversity and range of ideas in this domain rather than just the latest fashion. There are three types of content in this book: Fundamental concepts: The first and the last chapters are about the meaning and dynamics of Agile projects. They build a solid foundation that helps you learn the details on the one hand, and on the other hand, find your own way in projects. Frameworks: The Scrum chapter goes through all the details of this most popular framework because anyone involved in Agile projects these days needs to be familiar with it. Another necessity is Kanban, which is explored in its own chapter. Practices: There are chapters about Crystal, eXtreme Programming, and DSDM®, which all use these methods to explore the most common Agile practices and techniques.
