This book was released on 2015-03-11 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 15th Franco-Japanese Symposium of Oceanography “Marine Productivity, Perturbations and Resilience of Socio-Ecosystems,” organized by the long-standing partners Société franco-japonaise d'Océanographie de France and Société franco-japonaise d'Océanographie du Japon, reviewed the impacts of natural (storms, typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc.) and man-made (pollution, buildings in coastal areas, aquaculture, tourism, sports, diving, etc.) perturbations inflicted on coastal and marine environments. The Symposium examined the resilience of affected socio-ecosystems along with governance responses for these global/local environments. This book collects 43 selected papers, written by experts from numerous universities and research institutes in both countries. It addresses the needs of marine sciences researchers (natural and social sciences), decision-makers and coastal zone managers, and other stakeholders involved in coastal and marine socio-ecosystems.
Book Synopsis Evolution of Marine Coastal Ecosystems under the Pressure of Global Changes by : Hubert-Jean Ceccaldi
Download or read book Evolution of Marine Coastal Ecosystems under the Pressure of Global Changes written by Hubert-Jean Ceccaldi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-15 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coastal and estuarine environments at the interface of terrestrial and marine areas are among the most productive in the world. However, since the beginning of the industrial era, these ecosystems have been subjected to strong anthropogenic pressures intensified from the second half of the 20th century, when there was a marked acceleration in the warming (climate change) of the continents, particularly at high latitudes. Coastal ecosystems are highly vulnerable to alteration of their physical, chemical and biological characteristics (marine intrusion, acidification of marine environments, changes in ecosystems, evolution and artificialization of the coastline, etc.).In contact with heavily populated areas, these environments are often the receptacle of a lot of chemical and biological pollution sources that significantly diminish their resilience. In this context of accelerated evolution and degradation of these areas important for food security of many populations around the world, it is necessary to better identify the factors of pressure and understand, at different scales of observation, their effects and impacts on the biodiversity and on the socio-eco-systems, in order to determine the degree of vulnerability of these coastal ecosystems and the risks they face. A transdisciplinary and integrated approach is required to prevent risks. Within this framework, operational coastal oceanography occupies an important place but also the implementation of a true socio-eco-system approach in order to set up an environmentally friendly development.

Book Synopsis The Land-Sea Interactions by : André Monaco
Download or read book The Land-Sea Interactions written by André Monaco and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-12-03 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systemic view of the diversity of pressures and impacts produced by climate change and human actions. Erosion of biodiversity by changing ocean chemistry, the intensification of global change raises the problem of the adaptation of living resources. Land uses induce ecological imbalances leading to asphyxiation true coastal ecosystems. More than a billion tons of solid waste must be assimilated by the marine environment and food webs. Radioactive discharges emitted into the atmosphere or into the aquatic environment, raise the question of their future. Sea and Ocean series offers a transversal approach of the ocean system that leads to governance, sustainable resource management and adaptation of societies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sediments and Ecohyraulics is comprised of papers submitted to the 6th International Conference on Cohesive Sediments (INTERCOH 2005) held in Saga, Japan, September 2005. The papers are divided into two major categories. The first is basic processes, including erosion, settling, flocculation, and consolidation. The second major catagory is application of the understanding of cohesive sediments to address specific issues, including waterway and part management, fluid mud behavior, and contaminiated sediment management. *Provides an up-to-date resource of the present knowledge of cohesive sediment transport processes*Contains practical solutions on cohesive transport problems*Presents information on managing cohesive sediments

Book Synopsis Coastal and Estuarine Fine Sediment Processes by : W.H. McAnally
Download or read book Coastal and Estuarine Fine Sediment Processes written by W.H. McAnally and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-01-15 with total page 540 pages. Book excerpt: The INTERCOH series of conferences bring together the world's leading researchers and practitioners in cohesive sediment transport processes to share recent insights. This book presents papers that examine the spectrum of fine sediment transport related science and engineering, including the basics and applications of flocculation, settling, deposition, and erosion, advanced numerical models used in engineering practice, and applications to mud flats and harbor siltation.
Download or read book Estuaries written by Peter J. Wangersky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-10 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aspects of the biogeochemistry of estuaries from a variety of environments, from the tropics to the Arctic, are discussed. In most cases the courses of these rivers have been altered by dams or diversions; the results of these changes on the nature of the estuary are also discussed, where such data is available. In the case of the Tasmanian rivers, the estuary of the Huon, a largely untouched river, is contrasted with that of the Derwent, a river heavily influenced by industry. The future state of all of these estuaries may be a sensitive indicator of shifts in global weather patterns.
Book Synopsis Environmental Assessment of Estuarine Ecosystems by : Claude Amiard-Triquet

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estuaries in every country exemplify the same paradox- they are among the most productive ecosystems and also among the most impacted by anthropogenic activities. And although estuarine biodiversity is key to the ecological and economic health of coastal regions, estuaries are exposed to toxic effluents transported by rivers from remote and nearby

Download or read book Parallel Computational Fluid Dynamics '98 written by Chiao-ling Lin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-05-26 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the papers presented at the Parallel Computational Fluid Dynamics 1998 Conference. The book is focused on new developments and applications of parallel technology. Key topics are introduced through contributed papers and invited lectures. These include typical algorithmic developments, such as: distributed computing, domain decomposition and parallel algorithm. Some of the papers address the evaluations of software and machine performance and software tool environments. The application of parallel computers to complex fluid dynamics problems are also conveyed through sessions such as DNS/LES, combustion and reacting flows, industrial applications, water resources and environmental flows. The editors believe this book will provide many researchers, much beyond those contributing to this volume, with fresh information and reference.
