Download or read book Rome written by Franco Archibugi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-06-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rome: A New Planning Strategy looks at the problems of a city over the last century and suggests a totally new planning strategy. The book examines the stages that have marked the increase of population and change in land use and analyses the masterplans used to try and control these evolving conditions. Using Rome as an extended case study, the book deals with the socio-economic effect of an absence of planning strategy during the recent growth of the city. The author presents the characters and features of a new masterplan based on his many years of experience in theoretical and practical planning.

Book excerpt: Urban areas produce a series of environmental problems arising from the consumption of natural resources and the consequent generation of waste and pollution. These problems contribute to the development of social and economic imbalances. All these problems, which continue to grow in our society, require new solutions. This book addresses the many inter-related aspects of the urban environment from transport and mobility to social exclusion and crime prevention. Publishing papers from the Fourth International Conference on Urban Regeneration and Sustainability, the volume includes topics such as: Strategy and Development; Planning; Development and Management; Environmental Management; Planning Issues; Socio-economic Issues; The community and the City; Cultural Heritage; Architectural Issues; Traffic and Transportation; Land Use and Management; Public Safety; Conservation of Resources; Sustainable Transportation and Transport Integration; Depleted Ecological Resources; Environmental Pollution; Energy Resources Systems.
Book Synopsis Neural Networks in Transport Applications by : Veli Himanen
Download or read book Neural Networks in Transport Applications written by Veli Himanen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-09 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1998, this volume enters the debate on human behaviour in the form of neural networks in a spatial context. As most transportation research techniques had been developed in the 1960s and 1970s, these authors sought to bring that research into the modern era. Featuring 17 articles from 37 contributors, it begins with an overview and proceeds to examine aspects of travel behaviour, traffic flow and traffic management.

Book Synopsis Control in Transportation Systems by : D. Klamt
Download or read book Control in Transportation Systems written by D. Klamt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control in Transportation Systems covers the proceedings of the Fourth International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC)/International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP)/International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS) Conference on Control in Transportation Systems. The book discusses papers that tackle applications, methodologies, and control problems of surface transportation systems. This text covers topics such as operation of ground transportation systems; availability and safety; and the impact of modeling on the operation of transportation systems. This selection also discusses self-tuning control of multilocomotive-powered long freight trains; fuzzy control for automatic train operation system; and energy optimal control in transportation systems. This book will be of great use to engineers especially those who specialize with transport systems.
Book Synopsis Algorithms for Continuous Optimization by : E. Spedicato
Download or read book Algorithms for Continuous Optimization written by E. Spedicato and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Algorithms for continuous optimiza tion: the state of the art" was held September 5-18, 1993, at II Ciocco, Barga, Italy. It was attended by 75 students (among them many well known specialists in optimiza tion) from the following countries: Belgium, Brasil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Spain, Turkey, UK, USA, Venezuela. The lectures were given by 17 well known specialists in the field, from Brasil, China, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, UK, USA. Solving continuous optimization problems is a fundamental task in computational mathematics for applications in areas of engineering, economics, chemistry, biology and so on. Most real problems are nonlinear and can be of quite large size. Devel oping efficient algorithms for continuous optimization has been an important field of research in the last 30 years, with much additional impetus provided in the last decade by the availability of very fast and parallel computers. Techniques, like the simplex method, that were already considered fully developed thirty years ago have been thoroughly revised and enormously improved. The aim of this ASI was to present the state of the art in this field. While not all important aspects could be covered in the fifty hours of lectures (for instance multiob jective optimization had to be skipped), we believe that most important topics were presented, many of them by scientists who greatly contributed to their development.

Book Synopsis Intelligent Perceptual Systems by : Vito Roberto
Download or read book Intelligent Perceptual Systems written by Vito Roberto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-11-10 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perceptual processes in humans and machines, investigated and simulated by means of the computational approach, are the subject matter of this volume. Researchers in artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, and psychology discuss aspects of vision, speech understanding, sensory-motor coordination, and their interplay with cognitive and behavioral functionalities. The papers adopt the computational approach as the basic research paradigm. Connectionist models, numerical and statistical techniques, symbolic (logic-based) formalisms, and hybrid representations provide the formal background to the research. Some of the papers were prepared for a workshop held in Trieste, Italy, in October 1992.
