Book Synopsis Government Laboratories by : Deborah Cox
Download or read book Government Laboratories written by Deborah Cox and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a 1999 NATO Advanced Research Workshop titled "Reform of Government Scientific Laboratories" held at the U. of Manchester, with which the editors are affiliated, these 14 selected papers analyze the global trend toward "new public management" of university labs. Selections feature case studies illuminating the themes of: government research amidst political and economic crisis in Central and Eastern Europe; lab reform in the market economies of Western Europe and Canada; and responses in the US and elsewhere to such challenges as funding, brain drains to the private sector, and changing relationships among actors in an increasingly commercialized innovation system. Lacks a subject index. c. Book News Inc.
Book Synopsis Pawns of the Prophecy by : Peter Michael Lazar
Download or read book Pawns of the Prophecy written by Peter Michael Lazar and published by John S Lazar II. This book was released on 2020-05-08 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learoden, the God of Light, created man. When his brother, Gagenor saw the tribes of men becoming greater, he became envious. His jealousy ate away at him until he created demons and monsters to hurt the humans. To prevent slaughter, Learoden made dragons to protect humans. He then suggested they leave this world to the humans. Gagenor, wanting to rule the world, resisted. He had become the Blood God by teaching humans to sacrifice each other to him in worship. Eventually, Learoden was successful in taking the two of them away from this world and made three shields to prevent his brother from returning. Each of the gods has a Chosen who is searching for the three shields. If the Child of Blood should collect all three shields, they can be broken, and the Blood God will return to have his way. The Child of Light, aided by a wizard and his dragon-friend, is searching for the shields to protect them and our world. According to the Prophecy of the Chosen, the two will meet to decide the fate of man. Which one will succeed?
Book Synopsis Shape, Smoothness, and Invariant Stratification of an Attracting Set for Delayed Monotone Positive Feedback by : Tibor Krisztin
Download or read book Shape, Smoothness, and Invariant Stratification of an Attracting Set for Delayed Monotone Positive Feedback written by Tibor Krisztin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains recent results about the global dynamics defined by a class of delay differential equations which model basic feedback mechanisms and arise in a variety of applications such as neural networks. The authors describe in detail the geometric structure of a fundamental invariant set, which in special cases is the global attractor, and the asymptotic behavior of solution curves on it. The approach makes use of advanced tools which in recent years have been developed for the investigation of infinite-dimensional dynamical systems: local invariant manifolds and inclination lemmas for noninvertible maps, Floquet theory for delay differential equations, a priori estimates controlling the growth and decay of solutions with prescribed oscillation frequency, a discrete Lyapunov functional counting zeros, methods to represent invariant sets as graphs, and Poincaré-Bendixson techniques for classes of delay differential systems. Several appendices provide the general results needed in the case study, so the presentation is self-contained. Some of the general results are not available elsewhere, specifically on smooth infinite-dimensional centre-stable manifolds for maps. Results in the appendices will be useful for future studies of more complicated attractors of delay and partial differential equations.
Book Synopsis Scriptinformatics by : Dr. habil. Gábor Hosszú
Download or read book Scriptinformatics written by Dr. habil. Gábor Hosszú and published by Nap Kiadó. This book was released on 2021-02-05 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scripts (writing systems) usually belong to specific languages and have temporal, spatial and cultural characteristics. The evolution of scripts has been the subject of research for a long time. This is probably because the long-term development of human thinking is reflected in the surviving script relics, many of which are still undeciphered today. The book presents the study of the script evolution with the mathematical tools of systematics, phylogenetics and bioinformatics. In the research described, the script is the evolutionary taxonomic unit (taxon), which is analogous to the concept of biological species. Among the methods of phylogenetics, phenetics classifies the investigated taxa on the basis of their morphological similarity, and does not primarily examine genealogical relationships. Due to the scarcity of morphological diversity of scripts’ features, random coincidences of evolution-independent features are much more common in scripts than in biological species, thus phenetic modelling based solely on morphological features can lead to erroneous results. For this reason, phenetic modeling has been extended with evolutionary considerations, thereby allowing the modelling uncertainties observed in the script evolution to be addressed due to the large number of random coincidences (homoplasies) characterizing each script. The book describes an extended phenetic method developed to investigate the script evolution. This data-driven approach helps to reduce the impact of the uncertainties inherent in the phenetic model due to the large number of homoplasies that occur during the evolution of scripts. The elaborated phenetic and evolutionary analyses were applied to the Rovash scripts used on the Eurasian Steppe (Grassland), including the Turkic Rovash (Turkic Runic/runiform) and the Székely-Hungarian Rovash. The evaluation of the extended phenetic model of the scripts, the various phenograms, the script spectra and the group spectra helped to reconstruct the main ancestors and evolutionary stages of the investigated scripts.
Book Synopsis Vergilius Redivivus by : Estelle Haan
Download or read book Vergilius Redivivus written by Estelle Haan and published by American Philosophical Society. This book was released on 2005 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, Estelle Haan, one of the world's finest neo-Latinists, makes an important contribution to the study of so often neglected poetry. She uses context & commentary to create an unprecedented understanding of Joseph Addison's poetry. Haan adds to the corpus of neo-Latin poetry, & also offers to non-Latinists with an interest in Addison access to products of his creative imagination that were hitherto unavailable because of the language barrier. The inclusion of material unkonwn to previous Addison editors considerably enhances the volume's value. Illustrations.

Book Synopsis European Drug Index by : Niels F. Muller
Download or read book European Drug Index written by Niels F. Muller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-07 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many health care providers are frequently dealing with problems related to the identification and interpretation of medicines and prescriptions of foreign origin. Health authorities, customs and travel agencies also encounter such problems, which are related to the increasing mobility of the European population. Thus the need for a European Drug Index is obvious. The EDI provides extended information for practitioners confronted with the enormous number of drug names available on the European pharmaceutical market. This market is increasing due to the rapidly changing palette of countries and economic restrictions in Europe. The listings have been derived from drug data sources from the increased number of participating countries in this second edition. Each item starts with a trade name, in alphabetical order, followed by (depending on the original source) dosage forms, strength, volume (if applicable), and generic name(s) of the active principle(s) in a random sequence. The item is concluded by the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) classification (when made available by the original source) and a code for the country of origin.

This book was released on 1983-01-01 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the present study is to determine the different meanings of telos and teleoo and of their compounds and derivatives, to trace the semantic interrelations, synchronically and diachronically, and thus, hopefully, to discover the most likely etymology (or: etymologies, if in historical telos etc. two or more originally distinct roots should have merged). The period from which the data have been collected runs roughly from Homer down to the end of the 5th century B.C.
