A key selection of submissions from to the 11th International Conference on the Physics and Chemistry of Ice, 2006 are presented here with a foreword by Werner F. Kuhs. An invaluable resource, this book provides researchers and professionals with up-to-date coverage on a wide range of areas in ice science including: " Spectroscopic and diffraction studies " Molecular dynamics simulations " Studies of ice mechanics " Quantum mechanical ab initio calculations " Ice and hydrate crystal growth and inhibition studies " Bulk and surface properties of ice and gas hydrates " Snow physics and chemistry This insight into topical aspects of ice research is a key point of reference for physicists, chemists, galciologists, cryo-biologists and professionals working in the fields of ice and hydrogen bonding. The Editor Werner F. Kuhs is a Professor of Crystallography at the University of G÷ttingen, Germany and has a career spanning 25 years of research in the field of water ices and gas hydrates using diffraction methods, neutron and Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force and molecular dynamics simulations. He was the Chair of the 11th International Conference on the Physics and Chemistry of Ice.
Book Synopsis Radar Interferometry by : Ramon F. Hanssen
Download or read book Radar Interferometry written by Ramon F. Hanssen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-18 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the product of five and a half years of research dedicated to the und- standing of radar interferometry, a relatively new space-geodetic technique for m- suring the earth’s topography and its deformation. The main reason for undertaking this work, early 1995, was the fact that this technique proved to be extremely useful for wide-scale, fine-resolution deformation measurements. Especially the interf- ometric products from the ERS-1 satellite provided beautiful first results—several interferometric images appeared as highlights on the cover of journals such as Nature and Science. Accuracies of a few millimeters in the radar line of sight were claimed in semi-continuous image data acquired globally, irrespective of cloud cover or solar illumination. Unfortunately, because of the relative lack of supportive observations at these resolutions and accuracies, validation of the precision and reliability of the results remained an issue of concern. From a geodetic point of view, several survey techniques are commonly available to measure a specific geophysical phenomenon. To make an optimal choice between these techniques it is important to have a uniform and quantitative approach for describing the errors and how these errors propagate to the estimated parameters. In this context, the research described in this book was initiated. It describes issues involved with different types of errors, induced by the sensor, the data processing, satellite positioning accuracy, atmospheric propagation, and scattering character- tics. Nevertheless, as the first item in the subtitle “Data Interpretation and Error Analysis” suggests, data interpretation is not always straightforward.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Real World Psychology: Applications of Psychological Science, 4th Edition provides a complete, college-level survey of the field of psychology and an understanding of its scientific nature and research methods. As its title implies, the text emphasizes scientific thinking and practical applications of psychological science that can expand, enhance, and change students' experience of the real world around them. Updated with abundant new references since the 3rd edition's publication in 2019, this new edition highlights recent research that underscores the importance and power of psychology in our everyday lives and interactions, and the authors' careful and deliberate attention to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion ensures the representation of multiple perspectives and experiences throughout a text in which all students can find respect and a sense of belonging."--
Book Synopsis Paleopalynology by : Alfred Traverse
Download or read book Paleopalynology written by Alfred Traverse and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-21 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides complete coverage of all aspects of the study of all fossil palynomorphs yet studied. It is a profusely illustrated treatment. The book serves both as a student text and general reference work. Palynomorphs yield information about age, geological and biological environment, climate during deposition, and other significant factors about the enclosing rocks. Extant spores and pollen are treated first, preparing the student for more difficult work with fossil sporomorphs and other kinds of palynomorphs. An appendix describes laboratory methods. The glossary, bibliographies and index are useful tools for study of the literature.

Book Synopsis The Climatic Record in Polar Ice Sheets by : Gordon de Q. Robin
Download or read book The Climatic Record in Polar Ice Sheets written by Gordon de Q. Robin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1983-06-16 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1983, this multi-author work reviews the then current knowledge of the isotopic and temperature profiles of polar ice sheets. The polar ice sheets contain a wonderfully detailed record of the atmospheric history of the Earth that extends back for hundreds of thousands of years. This book is the result of a workshop held at the Scott Polar Research Institute, Cambridge. The review includes the glacial geology and glaciology of ice sheets; measurement and significance of glaciological parameters; temperature, isotopic and gas content profiles; and the climatic record from ice cores. The results presented in this volume will be of particular interest to glaciologists and climatologists.
