Book Synopsis Arctic Offshore Engineering by : Andrew Clennel Palmer
Download or read book Arctic Offshore Engineering written by Andrew Clennel Palmer and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an increasing need to construct engineering structures in the Arctic sea. The requirement is principally generated by the oil and gas industry, because of the substantial reserves that are known to existing offshore in the Beaufort Sea, the Caspian Sea, the Barents Sea, the Pacific Ocean off the cost of Sakhalin, the Canadian Arctic, and almost certainly elsewhere. Structures have to withstand the severe environmental forces generated by sea ice, a subject that is developing rapidly but is still far from completely understood. Underwater pipelines have to be safe against ice gouging and strudel scour, but also have to be constructed safely and economically. The social and human environment has to be understood and respected. This important book intentionally takes a broad view, and vividly accounts for the many and often subtle interactions between the different factors. It is illustrated by case studies of actual projects.

This book provides a useful reference work for architects, civil and mechanical engineers, designers, manufacturers and contractors involved with tubular structures.
Book Synopsis Wave Energy Conversion by : John Brooke
Download or read book Wave Energy Conversion written by John Brooke and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-09-26 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave energy, together with other renewable energy resources is expected to provide a small but significant proportion of future energy requirements without adding to pollution and global warming. This practical and concise reference considers alternative application methods, explains the concepts behind wave energy conversion and investigates wave power activities across the globe. Explores the potential of using the power generated by waves as a natural energy resource Considers the power transfer systems needed to do this, and looks at the environmental impacts
Book Synopsis Ice and Construction by : L. Makkonen
Download or read book Ice and Construction written by L. Makkonen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on two areas of ice technology: the use of ice as a construction material and the problems caused by ice to constructions. In connection with describing past and potential future applications of using ice in construction, a detailed discussion on the mechanical properties of ice is given. A state of the art description on ice-making methods, melt protection, methods and reinforcement of ice with the materials are covered.
Book Synopsis Remote Sensing of Snow and Ice by : W. Gareth Rees
Download or read book Remote Sensing of Snow and Ice written by W. Gareth Rees and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-08-12 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many advances in spaceborne instrumentation, remote sensing, and data analysis have occurred in recent years, but until now there has been no book that reflects these advances while delivering a uniform treatment of the remote sensing of frozen regions. Remote Sensing of Snow and Ice identifies unifying themes and ideas in these fields and presents them in a single volume. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the remote sensing of the Earth’s cryosphere. Explaining why cryospheric observations are important and why remote sensing observations are essential, it offers thorough surveys of the physical properties of ice and snow, and of current and emerging remote sensing techniques. Presenting a technical review of how the properties of snow and ice relate to remote sensing observations, the book focuses on principles by which useful geophysical information becomes encoded into the electromagnetic radiation detected during the remote sensing process. The author then discusses in detail the application of remote sensing methods to snow, freshwater ice, glaciers, and icebergs. The book concludes with a summary that examines what remote sensing has revealed about the cryosphere, where major technical problems still exist, and how these problems can be addressed.

Download or read book Offshore Pipelines written by Boyun Guo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-04-25 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offshore Pipelines covers the full scope of pipeline development from pipeline designing, installing, and testing to operating. It gathers the authors' experiences gained through years of designing, installing, testing, and operating submarine pipelines. The aim is to provide engineers and management personnel a guideline to achieve cost-effective management in their offshore and deepwater pipeline development and operations. The book is organized into three parts. Part I presents design practices used in developing submarine oil and gas pipelines and risers. Contents of this part include selection of pipe size, coating, and insulation. Part II provides guidelines for pipeline installations. It focuses on controlling bending stresses and pipe stability during laying pipelines. Part III deals with problems that occur during pipeline operations. Topics covered include pipeline testing and commissioning, flow assurance engineering, and pigging operations. This book is written primarily for new and experienced engineers and management personnel who work on oil and gas pipelines in offshore and deepwater. It can also be used as a reference for college students of undergraduate and graduate levels in Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering.* Pipeline design engineers will learn how to design low-cost pipelines allowing long-term operability and safety.* Pipeline operation engineers and management personnel will learn how to operate their pipeline systems in a cost effective manner.* Deepwater pipelining is a new technology developed in the past ten years and growing quickly.
