Download or read book Rntgen Centennial written by A. Haase and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To honour W C Rntgen and review the entire area of X-ray development in the various fields of natural, technical, and life sciences, his successors at the Physikalisches Institut of the Universitt Wrzburg organized a conference, named ?Rntgen Centennial?. It took place at the new ?Physikalisches Institut? not far from the historical site shortly before the actual 100th anniversary of the discovery. Over forty renowned scientists were invited as representative speakers in the various subfields of X-ray activities. They reviewed the development, gave examples, and described the present status. Most of them provided survey articles, which are gathered in this book. Since most X-ray-related activities are somehow represented, an almost complete overview of the entire field is provided. This book thus represents the enormous breadth of X-ray activities and allows one to recognize the potential and quality of today's X-ray research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a theoretical background for inorganic mass spectrometry, this text describes classical applications of four modern mass spectrometers - magnetic sector, quadrupole, time-of-flight, and ion trap - and illustrates how they have impacted elemental and isotopic analysis. The book features examples that concentrate on routine and non-routine applications of inorganic analysis techniques.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Elasticity and Hysteresis by : Alicia H. Kim
Download or read book Nonlinear Elasticity and Hysteresis written by Alicia H. Kim and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-03-09 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides the reader with the knowledge, tools, and methods to understand the phenomenon of hysteresis in porous materials. As many challenges have been met only recently, the book summarizes the research results usually found only scattered in the literature, connecting knowledge from traditionally separated research fields to provide a better understanding of the physical phenomena of coupled elastic-fluid systems. The result is an invaluable self-contained reference book for materials scientists, civil, mechanical and construction engineers concerned with development and maintenance of structures made of porous materials.

Book Synopsis Practical Scanning Electron Microscopy by : Joseph Goldstein
Download or read book Practical Scanning Electron Microscopy written by Joseph Goldstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the spring of 1963, a well-known research institute made a market survey to assess how many scanning electron microscopes might be sold in the United States. They predicted that three to five might be sold in the first year a commercial SEM was available, and that ten instruments would saturate the marketplace. In 1964, the Cambridge Instruments Stereoscan was introduced into the United States and, in the following decade, over 1200 scanning electron microscopes were sold in the U. S. alone, representing an investment conservatively estimated at $50,000- $100,000 each. Why were the market surveyers wrongil Perhaps because they asked the wrong persons, such as electron microscopists who were using the highly developed transmission electron microscopes of the day, with resolutions from 5-10 A. These scientists could see little application for a microscope that was useful for looking at surfaces with a resolution of only (then) about 200 A. Since that time, many scientists have learned to appreciate that information content in an image may be of more importance than resolution per se. The SEM, with its large depth of field and easily that often require little or no sample prepara interpreted images of samples tion for viewing, is capable of providing significant information about rough samples at magnifications ranging from 50 X to 100,000 X. This range overlaps considerably with the light microscope at the low end, and with the electron microscope at the high end.
Book Synopsis Multiple Diffraction of X-Rays in Crystals by : Shih-Lin In-Hang
Download or read book Multiple Diffraction of X-Rays in Crystals written by Shih-Lin In-Hang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three-dimensional arrangement of atoms and molecules in crystals and the comparable magnitude of x-ray wavelengths and interatomic distances make it possible for crystals to have more than one set of atomic planes that satisfy Bragg's law and simultaneously diffract an incident x-ray beam - this is the so-called multiple diffraction. This type of diffraction should, in prin ciple, reflect three-dimensional information about the structure of the dif fracting material. Recent progress in understanding this diffraction phenome non and in utilizing this diffraction technique in solid-state and materials sciences reveals the diversity as well as the importance of multiple diffraction of x-rays in application. Unfortunately, there has been no single book written that gives a sys tematic review of this type of diffraction, encompasses its diverse applica tions, and foresees future trends gf development. It is for this purpose that this book is designed. It is hoped that its appearance may possibly turn more attention of condensed-matter physicists, chemists and material scientists toward this particular phenomenon, and that new methods of non-destructive analysis of matter using this diffraction technique may be developed in the future.
