Book Synopsis Materials for Automobile Bodies by : Geoffrey Davies
Download or read book Materials for Automobile Bodies written by Geoffrey Davies and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-10-21 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The selection of automobile body materials is fundamental to the choice of fabrication method, and the characteristics and performance of the final vehicle or component. The factors behind these choices comprise some of the key technological and design issues facing automotive engineers today. Materials for Automobile Bodies presents detailed up-to-date information on material technologies for the automobile industry, embracing steels (including high-strength steels) aluminium, plastics, magnesium, hydro-forming and composite body panels. Coverage also includes: materials processing; formability; welding and joining; anti-corrosion technologies; plus a comprehensive consideration of the implications of materials selection on these processes. Dealing with the whole assembly process from raw material to production, right through to recycling at the end of a vehicle's life, this book is the essential resource for practising engineers, designers, analysts and students involved in the design and specification of motor vehicle bodies and components.* Up-to-date information on contemporary autobody materials * International case studies, examples and terminology* Fully illustrated throughout, with examples from Honda, Ferrari, Lotus, BMW and Audi

Book Synopsis Corrosion Mechanisms in Theory and Practice, Third Edition by : Philippe Marcus
Download or read book Corrosion Mechanisms in Theory and Practice, Third Edition written by Philippe Marcus and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-08-18 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Updated to include recent results from intensive worldwide research efforts in materials science, surface science, and corrosion science, Corrosion Mechanisms in Theory and Practice, Third Edition explores the latest advances in corrosion and protection mechanisms. It presents a detailed account of the chemical and electrochemical surface reactions that govern corrosion as well as the link between microscopic forces and macroscopic behavior. Revised and expanded, this edition includes four new chapters on corrosion fundamentals, the passivity of metals, high temperature corrosion, and the corrosion of aluminum alloys. The first half of the book covers basic aspects of corrosion, such as entry of hydrogen into metals, anodic dissolution, localized corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion fatigue. Connecting the theoretical aspects of corrosion mechanisms to practical applications in industry, the second half of the text discusses corrosion inhibition, atmospheric corrosion, microbially induced corrosion, corrosion in nuclear systems, corrosion of microelectronic and magnetic data-storage devices, and organic coatings. With contributions from leading academic and industrial researchers, this bestselling book continues to provide a thorough understanding of corrosion mechanisms—helping you solve existing corrosion challenges and prevent future problems.

Book Synopsis Corrosion and Electrochemistry of Zinc by : Xiaoge Gregory Zhang
Download or read book Corrosion and Electrochemistry of Zinc written by Xiaoge Gregory Zhang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humankind's use of zinc stretches back to antiquity, and it was a component in some of the earliest known alloy systems. Even though metallic zinc was not "discovered" in Europe until 1746 (by Marggral), zinc ores were used for making brass in biblical times, and an 87% zinc alloy was found in prehistoric ruins in Transylvania. Also, zinc (the metal) was produced in quantity in India as far back as the thirteenth century, well before it was recognized as being a separate element. The uses of zinc are manifold, ranging from galvanizing to die castings to electronics. It is a preferred anode material in high-energy-density batteries (e.g., Ni/Zn, Ag/Zn, ZnJair), so that its electrochemistry, particularly in alkaline media, has been extensively explored. In the passive state, zinc is photoelectrochemically active, with the passive film displaying n-type characteristics. For the same reason that zinc is considered to be an excellent battery anode, it has found extensive use as a sacrificial anode for the protection of ships and pipelines from corrosion. Indeed, aside from zinc's well-known attributes as an alloying element, its widespread use is principally due to its electrochemical properties, which include a well-placed position in the galvanic series for protecting iron and steel in natural aqueous environments and its reversible dissolution behavior in alkaline solutions.
