Book Synopsis X-ray Characterization of Materials by : Eric Lifshin
Download or read book X-ray Characterization of Materials written by Eric Lifshin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linking of materials properties with microstructures is a fundamental theme in materials science, for which a detailed knowledge of the modern characterization techniques is essential. Since modern materials such as high-temperature alloys, engineering thermoplastics and multilayer semiconductor films have many elemental constituents distributed in more than one phase, characterization is essential to the systematic development of such new materials and understanding how they behave in practical applications. X-ray techniques play a major role in providing information on the elemental composition and crystal and grain structures of all types of materials. The challenge to the materials characterization expert is to understand how specific instruments and analytical techniques can provide detailed information about what makes each material unique. The challenge to the materials scientist, chemist, or engineer is to know what information is needed to fully characterize each material and how to use this information to explain its behavior, develop new and improved properties, reduce costs, or ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This comprehensive handbook presents all the necessary background to understand the applications of X-ray analysis to materials characterization with particular attention to the modern approach to these methods.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings collect the papers presented at the Eighth International Conference on Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation, held in San Francisco, August 25th to 29th 2003. This conference takes place every three years, hosted by synchrotron research centers around the world. It is the principal meeting for developers of synchrotron radiation techniques. This particular meeting hosted 650 delegates and there are about 350 published papers in the proceedings. This proceedings series is an essential reference work for practitioners of the field. It documents the evolution and development of techniques. Many of the ideas that become standard practice in synchrotron radiation research appear first in these volumes, often with the definitive explanation and rationale for the technique in question.

Book Synopsis Synchrotron Radiation Techniques in Industrial, Chemical, and Materials Science by : Kevin L. D'Amico
Download or read book Synchrotron Radiation Techniques in Industrial, Chemical, and Materials Science written by Kevin L. D'Amico and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The individual papers that comprise this monograph are derived from two American Chemical Society (ACS) Fall National Meetings that focused on the current uses of synchrotron radiation (SR) research techniques. The first Symposium was held in Washington, DC, in August 1994, and the second convened in Chicago, IL, in August 1995. The intent of these symposia was to present a broad overview of several current topics in industrial, chemical, and materials-based SR research to a chemically inclined audience. The SR techniques covered were divided roughly into the three general fields of industrial, chemical, and materials science for this purpose. Included within these four categories are environmental, geologic, atomic/molecular, analytical, solid state physics, surface science, and biological applications of SR. There is little doubt that structural biology and environmental science are the largest growth areas in SR research as this monograph goes to press. The spirit of these symposia was to bring together the expert synchrotron radiation user with new and potential users of SR techniques. There are now a preponderance of particle storage rings, located throughout the world, devoted exclusively to the production of SR. There have been great improvements in the particle accelerators and storage rings from which SR emanates. These newest third generation SR sources are the result of the successful collaboration between SR users and accelerator physicists which has made a reality out of experiments never before possible.
Book Synopsis Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation by : Piero Pianetta
Download or read book Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation written by Piero Pianetta and published by AIP Conference Proceedings. This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference presents invited and contributed papers by international experts devoted to explosive phenomena in cosmic settings as diverse as stellar flares, X-ray bursts, jets, novae, supernovae, hypernovae, and gamma-ray bursts. The conference considered not only the origins of explosive behavior, but also information about the host systems that the explosive phenomena might yield. For example, X-ray bursts can be used to determine structural parameters of neutron stars, and specific types of supernovae can be used as standard candles to study the deceleration of the Hubble expansion.
