Book Synopsis Trustworthy Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering by : Alexander Romanovsky
Download or read book Trustworthy Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering written by Alexander Romanovsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Foreword "Getting CPS dependability right is essential to forming a solid foundation for a world that increasingly depends on such systems. This book represents the cutting edge of what we know about rigorous ways to ensure that our CPS designs are trustworthy. I recommend it to anyone who wants to get a deep look at these concepts that will form a cornerstone for future CPS designs." --Phil Koopman, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Trustworthy Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering provides practitioners and researchers with a comprehensive introduction to the area of trustworthy Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) engineering. Topics in this book cover questions such as What does having a trustworthy CPS actually mean for something as pervasive as a global-scale CPS? How does CPS trustworthiness map onto existing knowledge, and where do we need to know more? How can we mathematically prove timeliness, correctness, and other essential properties for systems that may be adaptive and even self-healing? How can we better represent the physical reality underlying real-world numeric quantities in the computing system? How can we establish, reason about, and ensure trust between CPS components that are designed, installed, maintained, and operated by different organizations, and which may never have really been intended to work together? ? Featuring contributions from leading international experts, the book contains sixteen self-contained chapters that analyze the challenges in developing trustworthy CPS, and identify important issues in developing engineering methods for CPS. The book addresses various issues contributing to trustworthiness complemented by contributions on TCSP roadmapping, taxonomy, and standardization, as well as experience in deploying advanced system engineering methods in industry. Specific approaches to ensuring trustworthiness, namely, proof and refinement, are covered, as well as engineering methods for dealing with hybrid aspects.
Book Synopsis String Analysis for Software Verification and Security by : Tevfik Bultan
Download or read book String Analysis for Software Verification and Security written by Tevfik Bultan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-04 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses automated string-analysis techniques, focusing particularly on automata-based static string analysis. It covers the following topics: automata-bases string analysis, computing pre and post-conditions of basic string operations using automata, symbolic representation of automata, forward and backward string analysis using symbolic automata representation, constraint-based string analysis, string constraint solvers, relational string analysis, vulnerability detection using string analysis, string abstractions, differential string analysis, and automated sanitization synthesis using string analysis. String manipulation is a crucial part of modern software systems; for example, it is used extensively in input validation and sanitization and in dynamic code and query generation. The goal of string-analysis techniques and this book is to determine the set of values that string expressions can take during program execution. String analysis can be used to solve many problems in modern software systems that relate to string manipulation, such as: (1) Identifying security vulnerabilities by checking if a security sensitive function can receive an input string that contains an exploit; (2) Identifying possible behaviors of a program by identifying possible values for dynamically generated code; (3) Identifying html generation errors by computing the html code generated by web applications; (4) Identifying the set of queries that are sent to back-end database by analyzing the code that generates the SQL queries; (5) Patching input validation and sanitization functions by automatically synthesizing repairs illustrated in this book. Like many other program-analysis problems, it is not possible to solve the string analysis problem precisely (i.e., it is not possible to precisely determine the set of string values that can reach a program point). However, one can compute over- or under-approximations of possible string values. If the approximations are precise enough, they can enable developers to demonstrate existence or absence of bugs in string manipulating code. String analysis has been an active research area in the last decade, resulting in a wide variety of string-analysis techniques. This book will primarily target researchers and professionals working in computer security, software verification, formal methods, software engineering and program analysis. Advanced level students or instructors teaching or studying courses in computer security, software verification or program analysis will find this book useful as a secondary text.
Book Synopsis Ernst Denert Award for Software Engineering 2022 by : Eric Bodden
Download or read book Ernst Denert Award for Software Engineering 2022 written by Eric Bodden and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zusammenfassung: This open access book provides an overview of the dissertations of the five nominees for the Ernst Denert Award for Software Engineering in 2022. The prize, kindly sponsored by the Gerlind & Ernst Denert Stiftung, is awarded for excellent work within the discipline of Software Engineering, which includes methods, tools and procedures for better and efficient development of high quality software. An essential requirement for the nominated work is its applicability and usability in industrial practice. The book contains five papers that describe the works by Jannik Fischbach (Netlight Consulting GmbH and fortiss GmbH), who won the award, entitled Conditional Statements in Requirements Artifacts: Logical Interpretation, Use Cases for Automated Software Engineering, and Fine-Grained Extraction, Christian Kirchhof's (RWTH Aachen University) From Design to Reality: An Overview of the MontiThings Ecosystem for Model-Driven IoT Applications, Sven Peldszus's (Ruhr University Bochum) research about Security Compliance in Model-driven Development of Software Systems in Presence of Long-Term Evolution and Variants, Florian Rademacher's (RWTH Aachen University) work on Model-Driven Engineering of Microservice Architectures, and Alexander Trautsch's (University of Passau) Usefulness of Automatic Static Analysis Tools: Evidence from Four Case Studies. The chapters describe key findings of the respective works, show their relevance and applicability to practice and industrial software engineering projects, and provide additional information and findings that have only been discovered afterwards, e.g. when applying the results in industry. This way, the book is not only interesting to other researchers, but also to industrial software professionals who would like to learn about the application of state-of-the-art methods in their daily work.
Book Synopsis Big Data, Cloud Computing, Data Science & Engineering by : Roger Lee
Download or read book Big Data, Cloud Computing, Data Science & Engineering written by Roger Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the outcomes of the 3rd IEEE/ACIS International Conference on Big Data, Cloud Computing, Data Science & Engineering (BCD 2018), which was held on July 10–12, 2018 in Kanazawa. The aim of the conference was to bring together researchers and scientists, businesspeople and entrepreneurs, teachers, engineers, computer users, and students to discuss the various fields of computer science, to share their experiences, and to exchange new ideas and information in a meaningful way. All aspects (theory, applications and tools) of computer and information science, the practical challenges encountered along the way, and the solutions adopted to solve them are all explored here. The conference organizers selected the best papers from among those accepted for presentation. The papers were chosen on the basis of review scores submitted by members of the program committee and subsequently underwent further rigorous review. Following this second round of review, 13 of the conference’s most promising papers were selected for this Springer (SCI) book. We eagerly await the important contributions that we know these authors will make to the field of computer and information science.
