Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the start of the new century, we can look at our modern high tech industry and see that oil has gone from a few oil seeps to the single most important raw material traded in the world, in volume and in value, in just over 100 years. The commercial history of the oil industry has been relatively short and dramatic. Where will we be heading in the next 100 years? It would be brave to predict 10 years from now, let alone 100. 100 years ago who could have predicted space travel, a man on the moon, the television, the computer, the internet? The list is endless. The 16th World Petroleum Congress serves as a forum for scientists, technical personnel, economists and management in the oil industry. The trends and outlooks integral to the future success of the industry are the focus of discussions, forums and presentations throughout the Congress. The presentations explore international business opportunities, exchange ideas on global issues, and provide the latest information on technology, business management and industry developments. The 16th Congress theme is Petroleum for Global Development: Networking People, Business and Technology to Create Value. closing ceremonies, the plenary papers, review and forecast papers, technical forum papers and all of the posters and interactive technology presentations. The first volume will contain all the ceremonies and plenary speeches, the Review Forecast Papers and a full index for the complete Proceedings. The other four volumes will contain all the technical presentations split into distinct groups: upstream; downstream: natural gas, petrochemicals and transportation; business management. As well as containing all of the papers, the Proceedings will include a forum review written by the chair of each, plus details of the question and answer sessions. A CD-ROM of the Proceedings is included in the cost of the Five Volume Set.

Book Synopsis Petroleum Radiation Processing by : Yuriy Zaikin
Download or read book Petroleum Radiation Processing written by Yuriy Zaikin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-11-25 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiation-thermal cracking of oil feedstock has the potential to offer a solution to many of the challenges the oil industry is facing. Radiation-induced chain cracking reactions in hydrocarbons at lowered temperatures initiated the development of improved technological approaches, combining the advantages of radiation-thermal cracking and low-temperature feedstock processing. However, researchers still face obstacles in the practical application of theory and experimental data, and the literature presents contradictions that need to be sorted out for further development of this technology. Petroleum Radiation Processing fills an information gap, providing systematic descriptions of the fundamentals of radiation-induced cracking reactions in hydrocarbons. It analyzes the basic experiments that have brought about the rapid development of radiation technology for petroleum radiation processing during the last decades. The book provides a detailed introduction to radiation methods based on radiation-thermal and low-temperature cracking of hydrocarbons, emphasizing high-viscous oil feedstocks that are difficult to process by conventional methods—such as heavy and high-paraffinic crude oil, fuel oil, and bitumen. It helps readers understand the mechanisms and kinetics of low-temperature radiation cracking. The book addresses the application of promising radiation methods for solving critical environmental issues, such as oil desulfurization and regeneration of used lubricants and other used oil products. Examining experimental data as well as theoretical and technical approaches, it summarizes research progress in the field of petroleum radiation processing, providing a useful reference on the theory and technology of hydrocarbon radiation processing for chemical technologists, researchers, and students.

Book Synopsis Geomechanics Applied to the Petroleum Industry by : Jean-François Nauroy
Download or read book Geomechanics Applied to the Petroleum Industry written by Jean-François Nauroy and published by Editions TECHNIP. This book was released on 2011 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designing an efficient drilling program is a key step for the development of an oil and/or gas field. Variations in reservoir pressure, saturation and temperature, induced by reservoir production or CO2 injection, involve various coupled physical and chemical processes. Geomechanics, which consider all thermohydromechanical phenomena involved in rock behavior, play an important role in every operation involved in the exploitation of hydrocarbons, from drilling to production, and in CO2 geological storage operations as well. Pressure changes in the reservoir modify the in situ stresses and induce strains, not only within the reservoir itself, but also in the entire sedimentary column. In turn, these stress variations and associated strains modify the fluids flow in the reservoir and change the wellbore stability parameters. This book offers a large overview on applications of Geomechanics to petroleum industry. It presents the fundamentals of rock mechanics, describes the methods used to characterise rocks in the laboratory and the modelling of their mechanical behaviour ; it gives elements of numerical geomechanical modelling at the site scale. It also demonstrates the role of Geomechanics in the optimisation of drilling and production : it encompasses drillability, wellbore stability, sand production and hydraulic fracturing ; it provides the basic attainments to deal with the environmental aspects of heave or subsidence of the surface layers, CO2 sequestration and well abandonment ; and it shows how seismic monitoring and geomechanical modelling of reservoirs can help to optimise production or check cap rock integrity. This book will be of interest to all engineers involved in oil field development and petroleum engineering students, whether drillers or producers. It aims also at providing a large range of potential users with a simple approach of a broad field of knowledge.
Book Synopsis Fire Retardancy of Polymers by : Michel Le Bras
Download or read book Fire Retardancy of Polymers written by Michel Le Bras and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of polymers is restricted by their flammability - they may indeed initiate or propagate fire. Fire Retardancy of Polymers focuses on mineral additives from either micro- or nano-composites for application in fire retardants. With the use of fire retardant additives containing halogen or phosphorus compounds in decline, the need for other systems is evident. The major materials that are used are alumina trihydrate or magnesium hydroxide which account for more than 50% by weight of the world-wide sales of fire retardants. Recent works have shown that such halogen-free compounds may give enhanced fire retardancy to polymeric materials when used in low levels, alone, or in synergistic mixtures. The corresponding fire performance depends on the dispersion of the mineral filler, with micrometer-scale dispersion leading to the best performances. Specialists discuss these new applications of mineral fillers with particular emphasis on action mechanisms, new materials including textiles, toxicology and hazards. With extensive references, this book provides a comprehensive and up-to-date view of these applications. This book will appeal to professionals, materials scientists and engineers looking for novel ways to eliminate fire hazards and improve flame retardancy of materials, with a special interest in sustainable development.
